I had an idea for a potentially new story and it essentially goes like this:

The story is centered around a new parasite. It is a worm that has two heads both with gaping mouths and rings of teeth. When it infects someone, it produces weird hallucinations of a completely bald guy with pitch black eyes and a fur coat that taunts and harasses its host. The illusion is basically a demon who gives its victim a period of time to destroy the human race by going to some kind of temple and activating something. If it's victim doesn't do it, the parasite kills the host and moves on to the next.

I want the story to follow a protagonist who is afflicted with this parasite and fights to save him/her self. Only problem is this is just an idea so I don't know what kind of protagonist to have and how the story should end. Should the protagonist defeat the demon and save the human race (somehow?) or should it just end with the protagonist dying alone or with the rest of all humanity? I have no idea what would be best for a story like this so PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS!!! :> :>

Alright. First things first (and last thing lol): What is your aim for the story? Do you want this to be a realistic story, a fantasy story, or a hero-type story?

When you've figured that out, consult the chart below:
Hero-type: The protagonist is a hero, surprise! So of course, the protagonist defeats the demon, with great effort, and manages to rid the humans of the parasite, celebrate!
Fantasy: Basically the same as Hero-type, except the protagonist dies, and then somehow is re-incarnated or given a second chance at life, and somehow gets the parasite again and then defeats the demon and whatnot.
Realistic: The protagonist, no matter how hard he tries cannot defeat the demon. He dies alone, what a plot-twist.

Woah that was fast holy crap! Thanks!
I guess I'm aiming for something that has a modern setting with a somewhat average Joe protagonist so I feel that fantasy is off the table. (no fantasy battles with the demon parasite guy) Which leaves me with two choices.
The Hero type ending me another idea where the protagonist dies and takes the demon down with him. (like if he ripped the parasite out of his chest or something morbid like that)
Then of course the realistic ending which i find interesting and a little darker.

In the end I'm really wondering if i should kill the demon at the end of the story. I assume it would be more satisfying for an audience, but who knows? Would letting the demon have it's way against the protagonists best efforts be more unexpected and refreshing?

Ahaha no problem!I guess, my best suggestion would be to follow your desire. Do not worry about pleasing your audience, but rather pleasing yourself. When you are finished, or in doubt, ask yourself, Will I be proud of my work if I write for my readers, or if I write from the heart?

Alright that was terrible advice I wouldn't suggest taking all of it to heart.
