Hello!
I am having a bit of trouble coming up with a plot for my story. I have a lot of good characters in mind and a general idea of the story setting, but not much else. I want to write a story that puts magic in a modern context. I have this idea that after WWII and the atom bomb madness that the magical world essentially had a massive freakout; like a "clutch-my-pearls we're no longer the most powerful people in the world" sort of freakout. Instead of trying to adapt to all the new technology, the magical world just kinda rejects it out of hand and any form of technology becomes super taboo because of how scared everyone is.
My main character is a technopath named Alice who was born in the magical upper-class. When she was young she suffered a tragic accident that forced her to have her leg amputated; all the healers her family went to said that nothing could be done, so Alice invented her own prosthetic leg. Instead of being proud of the fact that a 3-year-old made her own prosthetic leg she essentially gets disowned for being adept at technology.
As she grows up, she's ostracized by the magical community but also the tech community (who are largely unwilling to accept her because she's a female).
Other than that, I really have nowhere else to go. Please let me know if you have any ideas of what I can actually write about.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

Hey this is like 3 months late but uhhh
this sounds like a great story idea?
If you still need plot help, here's my idea
Obviously, you want this story to be more character-based than plot based (you're following a character through her life, not dragging her through a predetermined plot). She wants to be accepted by one or both (?) of her communities, so she prob goes through an identity crisis- should she stop using a prosthetic leg (and technopathy) to fit in with magic? Or does she go into the human world and suffer all the sexism (including microsexism) of the science/tech workplace of the second half of the 20th century (assuming that the story is like… right after WW2). Does she try to fit in with the magic community first, but find it suffocating and decide to deal with the male-centric workplace? In this workplace, does she use her technopathy to solve problems and make huge technological problems?
Essentially come up with one problem, write how she gets through it, then deal with the aftermath/new problems (just make sure you have a new prob open up right before one closes. This will help keep the reader hooked and also it adds to the MC's frustration bc of all the tasks being piled on her as the men of the workplace try to prove that she shouldn't be there)

@jpens

You said you have lots of other characters, too. Maybe see if you can imagine how they would interact with her and build a story off of that? You could also build up to one big moment where she invents something powered by magic/finds out that she can combine technology and magic. Or of course just Mulan your way through and have her go undercover as a guy to get what she wants.
Hope find a plotline you like! Best of luck to you
