So I think for my dystopian plot, everybody is contained in a huge insane asylum and they live in VR (but they don't know about it.) The human race has gotten so bad that they put everyone into VR space so they could overwrite their memories. The rulers of the VR system have gotten so bad that if anybody even mentions or jokes about VR, they either get their memories overwritten again or get killed. One girl has the ability to regain her memories, and destroys the VR from inside out only to realize maybe reality isn't as good as the virtual kind.
I think it could definitely use some work, but is this a good (not overused) foundation?
