I've recently started to rewrite a fantasy/medieval piece of mine, and I have most everything (AKA major plot points) planned out. There is one point I can't seem to settle on however. Buckle up, because this is a doozy.

The story revolves around Siraa Reza- an overthrown Empress working to reclaim her title and land. She earned her place as Empress after leading the people in what became known as the Iron Revolt.
There was (of course) a final showdown at the end of the Iron Revolt between her and the King Valar.
Here's where it may get confusing.
The Iron Revolt was a past event, as in it already happened when the story begins. Siraa has to basically turn herself to stone to avoid being killed when she is overthrown, and her reasoning for not fighting to the death?
She has these sigils on her palms, across her arms, etc. Nobody realizes what they are, but she claims that she cannot let herself die, or…..something bad will happen.
And that's where I'm at.
I had the idea that Valar had these same sigils (marks of power gifted from some evil god or something), which gave him power to fight during the revolt. When Siraa killed him, she had to inherit the marks (either to keep this evil gods power contained or something??)
The main and current villain Morta, well I was also trying to figure out if he was going to try and take them from her, or is his goal was to take this mark + power from her.
It's all a bit of a confusing mess, I'd really appreciate some help figuring this out ;-;

TL;DR - Siraa has strange marks, what are their purposes, does the bad guy want them too, and why?

That's one of the ideas I haphazardly threw into my journal, it would give Morta incentive to hunt her down and have her killed.
