In my story, the main character is swept into a secret society that protects this really important secret. They call the secret the orb, and it's supposed to be really frickin powerful, but I need some horrifying abilities that the orb has so taking ideas
I think it would be cool to give the orb some duality by having the orb make something good happen to the person who wields it, and something awful happen to everyone else.
Like, maybe the orb just straight up kills people. If It gets activated it can give it's wielder awesome super powers, or immortality or invincibility, but it kills off a significant portion of the population to do so. That would make the orb both desirable and dangerous.
