Hey everyone. I am a huge romance novel fan and for a long time I’ve been creating these short passion love stories in my mind, but never anything serious. I have a story in my mind about this bf and gf they’re a really cute couple and it’s finally the girls birthday and their going to have their first time together. And this is where the plot kind of gets down. I really need drama, emotion! I wanted them to fight about something have a heartbreaking split or something like that and overall I don’t want this to be a stupid romance I want it to handle serious topics I just can’t decide or focus on any story line. Also I can’t decide if the ending should be bad or good. It’s also set in the 70-80s. Thank you for every answer!
most all i know about the 70-80's is that they had great music. i will say, maybe have it be about one of them seemingly not supporting the others dream? maybe because they dont want them to leave, or they feel like theyre going to be left behind. maybe one has to move away to be with a sick family member, and theres some sort of miscommunication.
Maybe try some of these wordings. (I’m not the best so sorry)
- “Don’t leave me”
- “Why can’t you love me back?”
- “Stay please.”
- “Letting you go was the hardest thing I ever had to do.”
- “Can’t you see that I’m trying?”
Maybe use a bit of old english but not too much. Like, don’t go full old english but use some of the words. I hope this helped.

The 70s and 80s had a lot of interesting word usage and diction, so I would recommend going online and finding at least a few terms you like that you would use throughout the dialogue, at least. If you are wanting this to be pretty realistic to the times, at least.
I had this one story with a character from the fifties and sixties, and since then, I know a few old phrases that I use in day-to-day life. So I'm sure it'll be fun finding some you enjoy the sound of. :)
(ex. I talk and act like a person from numerous different decades I was NOT born in [I was born early 2000s] and I use words like 'killer' and 'righteous')
