Stories where women of color get to be emotional like normal people. Too many stories involve us being the tough ones, or the side kicks that are barely characters. I'd love a story where someone who looks like me gets to be a pretty princess, or a dazzling beauty that strikes the hearts of all, or something of that nature. More romance where we get to be vulnerable, essentially.
And more darker-skinned protagonists, especially. The few stories where women/girls of color get to be vulnerable involved light-skinned, mixed girls to the detriment of their darker-skinned, mono-racial counterparts, especially when it comes to Black (American) literature.
I never realised how many women of colour are the tough ones in shows, books, and movies. I'm gonna write that one down cause it is important. I also want to see more princesses and princes that are POC, not just in child-related content but in general entertainment too.
Thanks for replying :P
Fantasy with POC protagonists. The white farm boy being the Chosen One (TM) is slowly driving me insane.
Less stereotypes. See, the reason why most fiction falls back on stereotypes for POCs is because they don't include more than a handful of them in the novel. Like the sassy Black friend, or the brilliant Asian. They don't let the POCs be people because they're trying to fit an entire race of people into one character. A good example is the TV series Luke Cage. Luke Cage features many prominent African-American characters, and as such can present a variety of personality and poise without falling back on stereotypes or sacrificing their blackness. Black Panther does something similar. I want to see movies/read books for all races in this manner. A fully diverse cast is one where you don't even consider color when creating the personality.
