I'm writing a sort of romance/thriller book. To summarize it, a couple splits because the man commits a large fault. All sorts of things happen after that, but the problem is I don't know what his fault should be. I need it so that he betrays his ex and it needs to be a big betrayal. This may not make sense but can someone suggest something? What "crime" should he commit? please do not have it be something with another girl, this is a romance thriller not romance drama, thanks! :)
perhaps a murder. that might bring in some thriller-esque qualities where the man is trying to lay low while all manner of things crumble. if that's to high stakes perhaps he could get caught up in a compromising situation that wasn't his his fault. if you need something a little more realistic he could have insulted her or something like that while drunk. but even if you don't want to much drama, an affair may be your best option. hope this helps.

Alright, thanks! I think murder may be the way to go. It's a big enough crime to have all sorts of things happen after it and I can easily find a reason for it.
