I was wondering if anyone could help me with figuring out how to come up with a plot line? I know what I want it to be about, but I like to see where my writing takes me, but I don't think this is the best case to do so, seeing as how it is a novel. I would really appreciate it!
I have some ideas, but not enough for what I want to satisfyingly write.
I can help! What do you need?
I main events that helps my character develop. I have a few in mind, but I need more. The story is about a boy named Blake who travels into another dimension to rescue his best friend from an evil demon. Another person named Ace comes with him and they fall in love. Thank you so much for helping me.
Hmm. Okay. Well how does his friend get kidnapped? Have you figured that out? And why does the demon want to kidnap him? Have you developed the demon yet? Motives, personality, backstory, etc.?
I always see where my writing takes me. I usually have a rough idea of where the story's going, like a beginning and an end, but other than that I just go with wherever the story takes me. I know what absolutely has to happen, but not necessarily how it happens. Like, "I know I need this one dude to hate him", but I don't know what happens to make the one dude hate the other guy. Just because it's a novel doesn't mean you have to plan like crazy. Just let go and write. If it doesn't end up the way you think it should, that's what editing's for.
Well to really have a plot line you need to at least have the main events and what order they go in. It's always good to have a general idea of why things will happen, even it it's just kind of a loose guideline. And even if you don't want to obsessively plan out every detail of your story—I don't, personally—it's good to flesh out your characters really well. Get down to the little details of their backstories and personalities and get all their little quirks and flaws and motivations. This site is really good for that.
I also don't want to plan out every detail, but I feel like the main events are important to have because I don't want it to get off track from where I want it to go. I have figured out the demon's motives, but not how they get kidnapped yet. Thank you for the advice so far.
You're welcome. Do you need any more help or are you good? I'm happy to try and help more if you need me to.
If I need anything else, I'll certainly ask you. I appreciate it.
