What kind of prep do you do for NaNoWriMo? I'm a first timer, and I'm planning out my plot some, but what specific stuff should I prepare for? How do you prepare?

Tbh my first NaNoWriMo was in 6th grade, and we had no prep or planning at all. Safe to say, my novel (and everyone else’s in my class) turned out pretty awful. Now, I start prepping around August, laying out plot, gathering ideas, etc. At this point, I think my novel will have been started before November but I’ll do most of the writing during NaNoWriMo.
What kind of prep do you do though? Like, I just started a plot outline doc, to plan out the main events and their order, plus figuring out magic (as you can see in the other thread that's currently active in the magic forum) and characters/their roles
When I did Nanowrimo, I didn't really prep until a few days beforehand. I wouldn't really recommend it…but it worked out okay, actually. What I did was gather some plot points, outline my characters, write the beginning of a scene, etc. Just world build and plan. I'm doing Camp Nanowrimo this year.
What's Camp NaNoWriMo?

Agh, well, I’m not a very organized writer…. but I figure out how the novel will start, the deciding scenes for each character, the main points of the beginning, middle, and end…. but what usually ends up happening is I make up the huge plot twists as I go, or one will appear in my head 14 chapters before it’ll become relevant to the story.
Camp Nanowrimo is kinda like a mini Nanowrimo. You can set your own goals and then try and write accordingly. it's in july and april, maybe? I know for sure july.
