in my magic system, I have three different categories of magic: Light magic (healing and growing), Dark magic (attacking and harming), and Elemental magic (earth bending)

That's pretty cool. I also have blood magic (voodoo, blood manipulation) and body magic (magic stemming from touch).

sorry it booted me off and published early, I was wondering where I should put fire stuff in those three categories

I think Dark magic

Dark magic. When I think of fire I think of chaos and destruction. (In my opions that a good thing but with your magic sorting thing it fits best with dark.)

yeah, I thought dark magic, but fire is a good thing too! before electricity, fire was a source of light and heat.

my thought was mastery of fire is an advanced form of elemental magic, but I'm still debating

I'd say fire falls under elemental magic because fire isn't necessarily "good" or "evil," and fire is very necessary for life. Heat, cooking food, causing pinecones to explode and spread their seeds on the ground, smelting metals, etc.
