”I was busy. I meant to borrow someone's notes but I forgot. Any chance you could show me the way he taught?” He asked with a weak smile.

"Mmm. Sure I can. You'd better pay attention to how he goes over this problem, too," Jackie warned lightly as he passed over his thick notebook.

”thanks, ” he said taking the notebook and reading it over quickly. Now that he sees the steps he's able to solve the problem. The answer is possibly extremely wrong but he still hands it to Jackie.

Jackie prodded his neighbor once he grabbed the paper. He hadn't noticed the way their thumbs brushed ever so slightly as he grabbed it from the other. He sat back up straight to receive his notebook, looking expectant as he held out his hand again.

Finn paused slightly when their hands touched. Mind going blank and he took a second before remembering to hand the notebook over. ”Thanks again, ” he says as he hands it over.

"Mmm-hm! He's explaining it now," He pointed out as his eyes jolted back to attention to the teacher. His profile looked bright and interested.

And soon, for the excited student, the class was over, and he was hastily packing up. He grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder as he lifted up his case, and met up with the only bass clarinet player waiting for him near the door. It was a pretty, tall girl with blonde hair that strung over her shoulder. He greeted her with a big grin and they walked out of the room.

Finn tried his best o focus on the class. He got enough notes down that he should be fine. When the class finally ended he took a second to pack up and leave the class. Meeting up with the rest of the team.

The girl and Jackie chatted happily as they put on their uniforms and headed down to the stadium. Soon they had finished the national anthem, and the game had started.

But just as soon as it started, and half-time came around and left, the game had ended, leaving a number of exhausted teenagers.

Jackie was one of the last band students stuck outside. It had been raining steadily since their half-time show, so his hair was slick and he was shivering inside his wool uniform as he waited for his ride to bring him back to the school. Maybe his sister had forgotten, and he needed to walk.

Finn walked out of the locker room and quickly moved towards his car. He was about to get inside but then he saw Jackie. ”Do you wanna rid?” He asked walking over to him.

His gaze flicked up warily as he spotted something in the dark, holding up his giant marching baritone as a weapon of destruction, then recognizing him.
"Oh, sure. I'm all wet, though." He chuckled softly and shuffled a little closer. "It got really cold."

” It's fine I'm going to be soon too, ” he said smiling. ” Let's get inside.” He quickly moves to his car. ”you can it the trumpet thing in the back!” He gets into the driving seat. His car is a really old model and the sets are a little worn but it's clean and he rakes good care of it.

Jackie went to follow the other, but stopped dead in his tracks at 'trumpet thing' his expression twisted into one of upmost disbelief. He did not put his baritone in the back, but rather crammed himself in the front seat with it on his lap.
"This… this is a fucking baritone," He said slowly.

Finn chuckled And looked over at the other boy. ”All the horn instruments look the same anyway, ” He teased turning on the car.

Jackie looked genuinely offended as he cuddled his brass instrument closer to his chest and huffed into the horn angrily.
"Every instrument has a horn, you snide. This is a brass instrument."

Finn smiled finally pulling his eyes away from Jackie. ”well then all brass instruments look the same, ” He said driving out of the parking lot.

"Yeah, whatever." He blew a faint raspberry, still hugging his precious instrument close to him as he looked out the window at everything going by. It was silent.

Finn chuckled but then let the silence be And kept his eyes on the road. ”where do you live?” He asked finally breaking the silence.

"I live a couple minutes away from the school," He answered gruffly with a soft sigh. "I just need a ride back from football games because I don't like walking in the dark."

Finn nodded. ”Ok just give me directions, ” He said staying silent for a second. ”Unless you want to go get pizza or something. My team did win and I won't able to go out with the team for a celebratory pizza.” he was slightly nervous when he spoke but he worked hard to hide it. Willie picked up Poppy from daycare after the game since Finn needed to do something for school. He should be set for a few hours.

"Oh, sure. I would like to put my uniform back and get some cash, though," He said with a couple nods, grinning. "'Course I don't want you to pay or anything." He glanced at the other. "Which place were you thinking about going to?"

Finn thought for a second. His smile grew slightly. ”Maybe like Papa Johns or something. Also, I'm fine with paying for myself, ” He says.

"Nah, I was gonna pay for me," Jackie said as they approached the school. "Ok, I'll be back." He clambered out of the car with his instrument, trotting up to the school and humming.

He finished putting everything away in about five minutes, walking out to the other again, hurrying out with his arms crossed for warmth. He climbed into the car again and shut the door.

When he got bag inside Finn drove away again. Towards the pizza place.

Jackie found some cash he had stowed away in his bookbag and decided it'd be enough. He hummed softly as they drove, thrumming his fingers.

A few minutes later Finn pulled up to the pizza place. He parked and prepared to run through the rain.
