it looks great! i'll start working on it tonight, but it's a little after eleven and i might end up going to bed soon. are there any things you don't want to see in this character? certain things that you just don't like or don't think fit?

@Moriarty

Yeah, it's 2:13 AM here, so if I have any brains I'll probably konk out pretty soon, too.
As for things I don't want to see in a character… mmm… no, not really. And the only things I really ask RP wise is like cursing PG-13 and below and explicit romantic and sexual stuff PG-13 and below, but that's not really character related. So… nope! ^-^ Anything you want! <3

@Moriarty

Oh that's a good question. I hadn't thought about that. Hmmm… wdyt? If we want them to be young we could do like 18-22ish, or we could bump them up to like 23-28ish. Older leaves more room for backstories and experience, but younger makes them seem tougher (and thereby cuter imo) since yknow 18-22 is smol for a criminal that's supposed to be brutally killed in a gladiator ring.
But I see either working out really well, so it's a difficult choice.

@croccin-champagne

i'm incredibly fond of the younger range, because it just means that these poor kids have been through even more, despite how young they are. you know, that quality angst? and it means we get those 'oh yeah, they're kids' scenes when you see them acting like the kids they are

@Moriarty

Yes. Let's do it. I like the increased angst and pain surrounding the fact that they are young and their lives are so screwed up. We could even bump it down younger if we wanted. 16-20. Such smol.

@croccin-champagne

oooo. honestly, i would love to do my girl around 16/17, for the Big smol. because it makes everything i'm putting her through in just her backstory even worse

@croccin-champagne

Name: Yvonne Camelli

Age: 16

Gender/sex: Female

Personality:
Brash, unconcerned, your common comedic relief archetype. It completely hides the horribly pained and terrified child within her. Despite the tough and reckless exterior she has, she’s smarter than one would think, fully aware of the things she’s doing but not concerned with the outcome. She’s friendly outside the arena, known for ‘making friends with anyone despite what she’s done’. An actual quote from another criminal. This is horrible on her though, because it means eventually, she has to face the people she calls friends, sometimes being forced to kill them just because of the sick game being ran. It’s tearing her up, but she refuses to let it show.
Still a little kid in some ways. Loves trouble, sweet things, and the stars with all her heart.
Definitely still a thief. Occasionally, she’ll randomly steal things off of people, for the thrill of it.

Backstory/crime committed:
Parricide.
It’s a complicated backstory. The short version is;
She was born to a wealthy family, but was not born to a happy family. Her parents weren’t good people, basically. Actually, very bad people, fond of heavy handed punishments. Often times, in an attempt to escape the horrible life waiting for her at home, she would take her little sister out into the scummier parts of town, where she learned to steal.
By the time she was fourteen though, things went wrong. She got caught pickpocketing a higher up target, and before the officials knew who she was, they cut off the little finger on her left hand, a common practice in that area. It was a miracle she hid it from her parents long enough, making it all the way until she was fifteen(only a few months later, unfortunately) before they were made aware of what had happened. Things got so much worse. She shielded her sister from as much of it as she could, not wanting her to suffer because of bad decisions that weren’t her own. But she couldn’t save her for long. One night, her father accidentally killed her sister. He didn’t exactly mean to, but he did, mid-an act that is important to her backstory but I’m not sure you want entirely specified. She killed her parents. Her father with a fire-poker, and her mother with an antique plate that her mother loved more than both her daughters. In the morning, when the servants showed up, they found her in the bathtub, somewhat in shock over what she had done. Von was blamed for her sister’s death too, despite the evidence against that, and was sentenced to prison. Only a few months in, she was officially signed up for the arena, and has been competing since, somehow managing to survive every fight she’s been in.

Strengths/skills:
Stealing and pickpocketing, putting her morality on hold briefly when it comes to arena fights, memorizing useless facts and the layout of things like ships and planes, and cooking, actually, which is surprising.

Weaknesses:
Her morality and what she’s done catching up to her. Sweet things. Has like, no clue how to use functional weapons like guns, probably because she’s currently missing two fingers on her dominant(left) hand, the other one lost her first night in holding. Telling the truth.

Appearance:

Hair color/style: Chocolate brown hair, that develops lighter sun-highlights when it gets the chance. It falls a bit below her shoulders, and is usually braided or pulled up, because of how curly it gets suddenly.

Eye color/shape: Almond eyes, that are a golden brown on the outer edges of the iris, and are a stark grey around the pupil, in almost a starburst sort of pattern.

Height: 5’2

Skin tone: Well tanned, and covered in freckles, mainly on her cheeks and nose.

Build: It’s a wiry muscle, because she’s so underfed.

Defining marks: Her missing fingers, and plenty of scars. The more noticeable ones are the ligature marks on her wrists, scars from something cutting into the skin, a thin scar horizontally across her neck, and a long, jagged scar across her abdomen.

Preferred outfit/gear:
White pants, usually harem pants. Black boots, and white tank tops. The white clothing is the only thing she manages to keep the same when it comes to the clothing she prefers. Being where and what she is, after all, there’s a limited supply.
She is. Knife gal. If it’s pointy and shiny, she’s got it or is going to steal it. Want to get on her good side? Give her a knife. She’s got a million, always strapped somewhere on her, and treats all of them like they’re actually living things. She used to love archery as well, but it's even less practical than her knives.
Tends to use whatever she can find, if it fits the situation better than knives, even going so far as to steal an opponent's weapon from them.

Other: Goes by Von, with people she actually likes. Her crime was leaked to the other criminals, and has earned her a bit of notoriety.

turns out my brain wouldn't let me rest until i had finished her, but yeah.

@Moriarty

🥺 I. Love. Her. <3 She's so broken.

Okay, on the "act" her father did that is important to her backstory, my mind just assumed rape, but correct me if I'm wrong. I don't mind making references to more mature forms of abuse as long as actual methods of said abuse aren't explicitly described or vulgar. ^-^
As for the boy, I'll have him up here in just a bit. I was unintentionally up until 4, and it's only 8 now, so I probably won't be able to stay awake long enough to complete my guy right now. But I will try to soon!

@croccin-champagne

you'd be correct in your assumption. another add-on to the abuse those poor kids went through, though only one of them made it out

I can't wait to see him! get some sleep though lmao

Name: Hugh Florian Halsey
Age: Seventeen (17) years old
Gender/sex: Male; straight
Personality: Possibly INTJ or ISTJ. Hard to pinpoint Myers-Briggs type just yet. Enneagram type 5.
He's quiet and reserved, often stoic in his mannerisms until he gets irritated. Depending on the situation, he can usually get annoyed and/or flustered easily. He tries to act like he doesn't get worked up, but anyone who knows him knows that he kind of does, and that he's also easily embarrassed– both at his own expense, and at the expense of others. He's not good at expressing his emotions, and this can sometimes lead him to be more annoyed. He also has a lot of trouble trusting people. He's quite responsible, though, and tries to cling to what little morals he has, along with his common sense. He prides himself on his intelligence and is often very strategic and planning about things. Spontaneity and incompetence annoys him. For the most part, he's fed up with humanity and even more with the aforementioned incompetent fools, but he secretly has a heart whether he'll admit it or not and is a lot softer (and more afraid) than he'd ever dare to let on like.
Backstory/crime committed:
Hacking into illegal documents. Multiple cases of homicide.
Hugh was born into an impoverished family in the slums of one of the most crime-ridden cities, the oldest of three boys. His father, in order to make a desperate living for his family of five, was a cage-fighter, despite how illegal such a "job" was. Hugh's mother was terminally ill. She died by the time he was five, and when he was seven, his father was caught and arrested for his crimes. He was killed in a gladiator ring similar to the one that exists today. The years before Hugh's parents' deaths had consisted of scrounging for food and trying to survive whilst his father returned every evening with bloody knuckles and purple bruises on his face. Hugh, being the oldest, tried his best to take care of his smaller brothers, but as he was under seven years old, that was difficult. At school, Hugh tried to keep his current conditions a secret for fear of being sent off to community home. Once his father was arrested, there were no other family members to take care of Hugh or his siblings, and they were sent to the community home anyways, where they were abused in more ways than one for several long months. Hugh promised himself that things would get better, but they didn't. His youngest brother was "accidentally" killed when one of the workers at the home beat him to death in front of everyone. But, since the police would not investigate such a matter, it didn't matter, and no one was arrested. Hugh actually attacked the worker, but he had just turned eight and they were a grown man, so clearly he didn't win. All his attempt earned him was a brutal beating. Bitter and angry and afraid, he refused to stay any longer, and over a period of several weeks he devised a plan to break out with his surviving brother. They did, and they were thankfully never caught.
Unfortunately, the streets didn't offer a life any safer than the home had. Hugh had only just turned eight, and his brother wasn't even quite six years old, yet they were now exposed to all of the ungodly horrors of the world. After several weeks of constant hiding and trying not to die (and avoiding authorities for fear of being returned to the community home), they encountered a gang of criminals– who took them and sold them into the black market as child slaves.
Hugh and his brother were separated and haven’t seen each other since. In the year to follow, Hugh went through several “masters,” each of which were abusive in different ways. (It was during this time that his fear of whips became very real.) However, he also learned a lot from the different criminals he encountered, including hacking, illegal technology, and weaponry. He took note of everything he learned and applied the knowledge. When he was fifteen, he killed his current master and escaped. On the streets again, he decided to go after the monsters who had ruined his life, and he felt justified in doing so, because he assumed that if he killed them, they would no longer harm innocent people. So he did. He killed all of his previous masters. It was murder of the worker at the community home who had beat his brother to death so many years before that got him caught and arrested, because, in order to find that individual, he had hacked into official documents to track their whereabouts (as they no longer worked at the community home)— and this earned unwanted attention from the authorities.
Strengths/skills: Hacking, technology, and weapons are specialties of his. He can take apart and rebuild guns with ease and has an incredible aim. Sharpshooting. He’d make a good marksman. He knows some hand-to-hand combat but prefers long-range. He’s strategic and likes to have a plan, and he also values common sense and structure. He tries to cling to his morality to the best of his ability, though there’s not much left.
Weaknesses: He’s terrified of whips. He’s also terrified of water, and he can’t swim well at all. He can wield a knife, but he prefers not to because they tend to make him nervous, and the thought of stabbing a blade through someone’s flesh grates against him. Getting angry and flustered is definitely one of his weaknesses. Not having a plan makes him anxious.
Appearance: 5’10. Lean with average-width shoulders that may fall a bit more on the narrow side. He has fair skin and a blotchy birthmark on his neck, extending down onto his left shoulder. His hair is blond, curly, and a bit shaggy. He has focused grey-blue eyes, a sharp, prominent (albeit not large) nose and a prominent jawline. Lips of thin-to-average fullness and straight teeth.
Preferred outfit/gear:
If he has a say in the matter, he prefers to wear dark clothes. Cargo pants, loose jacket— both dark grey— and black combat boots. He likes to wear a bandana around his neck and a pair of welding-style goggles on his head that fit over his glasses easily. He does wear glasses almost always, because he’s very near-sighted and he can’t shoot well without them.
Other: It’s rough but I’m trying to be quiccckkkk

@croccin-champagne

hi I. love him?? hes like, Von's perfect match in that they succeed where the other fails, though sometimes to their detriment. and he is babey who needs a hug

I had this sort of scene pop into my mind between them, a thing that happens decently often with characters. basically, them getting into a fight and hugh making a comment about how she didnt grow up the same way he did, facing the horrors of the world, and she sort of. closes off a bit before telling him that she didnt have to leave her house to face those horrors, because they lived with her

@Moriarty

I'm glad you like him! I went through a few different ideas and I was unsure before I settled on this.

Yes, I think we should totally do that. Angst = good. Brilliant idea.

@croccin-champagne

why they're about to escape the arena, probably. did they just decide to at the same time? did they sort of bond before hand and then decide they didnt want to fight each other? or, did one of them lay out the plans and execute, and the other accidentally got caught up with them?

@Moriarty

when you automatically know which one would plan and which one probably wouldn't

Hmmm… I think I vote for either the first or third, only because I think RPing their initial meeting would be best. Unless we wanted to start with the bonding and then go to the escape afterwards. Any would work!

@croccin-champagne

consider then, hugh plans his whole fancy escape, making sure to keep in mind a bunch of things, and then it goes bad as hes executing it or something. von, with nothing to do, steps in and 'helps' or is just like 'oooo. a mess. I'm in' and now they're stuck with each other

@Moriarty

I like it.
Imagine, if you will, his plan like backfiring and he's like "nO tHE pLAN" and she's essentially like "lol who needs a plan"

@croccin-champagne

'a plan? in this economy? watch me blow up something instead'

might add pyrotechnics. she seems like someone who'd be into that

do you think that's about all we need?
