Alexander started moving in his sleep mumbling something inaudible.
Leonie had fallen asleep, still facing Alex, and didn't notice the boy moving.
He curled up in on himself.
Leonie's eyes fluttered open, and through the bleariness she could see Alex moving. "A..Alex?" She whispered.
He doesn't Answer. He just stayed curled up.
"Alex are you okay?" She asked as she sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Did you have a bad dream?"
He was shaking. "…"
"Alex??" She gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "Alex you're shaking…"
"…I-I…" He choked on his words.
"Hey it's okay, take a deep breath, you're alright." Leonie stroked Alex's hair gently, her own hand quivering. "Nothing will hurt you, it was just a dream."
He looks at her then back down.
She moved her hand away from him, yawning slightly. "Do you want to talk about it?"
He shakes his head as tears fall down.
She nodded her head slowly, rubbing Alex's arm gently. Just let everything out, we don't have to talk..
He stayed curled up but relaxed a little. He coughs a little.
Leonie continued to gently rub Alex's arm. If needed I can get him a drink or something.. I just don't want to leave him alone while he's upset..
He started mumbling.
She tried to hone in on what Alex was saying, but couldn't for the life of her make out a single word.
He spoke louder. "I'm sorry' he repeated this over and over again.
Leonie inhaled sharply, gently pulling Alex into her arms, holding him tightly.
"Stop it Alex, you've done nothing to be sorry for." she mumbled. "Take deep breaths, you're safe, you're okay."
He tenses up then relaxed, hugging back. He continued to cry quietly.
She ran her fingers through his hair, gently stroking the back of his head. Her own body was protesting from tiredness, and her heart raced with adrenaline, but no matter what she held onto Alex and comforted him the only way she knew how to.
Alex didn't know why she was being so nice to hin. He wasn't special. "You're too kind…"
"I'm giving you the love and support I wish I had been given.." Leonie whispered, keeping her eyes averted. "I'm doing what I think is right."
