It'd been almost a year, and the two of them were very much in love. But it seemed as though only one of them was entirely invested in the relationship. After all, with all the secrets that the other seemed to be keeping, how could they be? But they knew it was time. They'd been keeping something from their partner. Something big. But they knew the other could handle it. Small tests and questionnaires that they'd stealthily given had paid off, and they knew that their lover was finally ready to head home and meet the family.

Character A and Character B have been dating for nearly a year, and while B has been open about their life, family, home, background, childhood- everything, Character A has been vague, and seems to tense up at even the mention of their family. However, they feel that now it's time to introduce B to their real life. Which centers around beings, creatures, and objects that absolutely no one from the outside could know about. SCPs. Character A's home in the distant forest is a large cabin, the gates around which hide the containment units for the SCPs dubbed safe to be around. A few humanoid and intelligent ones live in A's house, with their own bedrooms and seats at the dinner table. SCPs in the household range from docile pets, to living beings with humanoid intelligence, to monsters that seem dangerous, but are in reality, completely harmless. Character A's entire life had been spent around SCPs, so they've been mostly desensitized. B, however, has not. This is going to be a bumpy ride for the both of them.

NOTES: Horror/romance/comedy blend. My absolute favorite thing in the world. I will be A (unless you've got, like, a super convincing argument) since I've planned out how everything in this universe will work. Horrific creatures will be described and involved, but almost none of the true monsters out to harm people need to be involved (unless…) Character sheet up soon!

(probably an old married couple dynamic. B could be the sweetest thing on the planet, or a sarcastic little shit- anything, really, as long as the two of them vibe. my character will probably be kind of an idiot, definitely awkward, but an all-around sweetheart who doesn't know what they're doing 90% of the time.)

(oh! sorry- mlm sounds good lol. as a masc presenting person w/ a male partner, i have a bit more experience in that field anyways :))

Name: Arlen Kenji Doxon
Age: 25
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Sexuality: Pansexual
Appearance: Standing at 5'10, he's lanky and skinny. He's slightly tanned from hours outdoors every day, with curly blond hair that would reach past his eyes if it were straightened. His eyes are a deep green, and while he needs glasses, he often opts for contacts. He has small scars all over his body from years of roughhousing. The scars on his face would almost look like freckles or birthmarks were it not for their lightened color. He often wears a slightly oversized button-up messily tucked into torn trousers or jeans. He rolls up his pants as much as he needs to for his everyday life, that often meaning cuffed pants. If the weather calls for it, he'll throw a soft sweater or cardigan over top this. He often opts to go barefoot anywhere he can, saying it's more practical since he has to step through water, mud, or something of the like quite frequently. It's one of the only parts about himself that he gets a bit embarrassed about.
Personality: Arlen is a sweetheart, but frankly, has no idea what he's doing most of the time. He cares for those close to him with love and careful consideration, considering even the SCPs as loved ones. He's cautious with the secret, and only introduces his partner to them once he's certain that the two of them are endgame. Not that he'd ever admit that aloud, it'd be far too embarrassing. He keeps countless sketchbooks and enjoys drawing the scenery around him at any given moment. There are, of course, plenty of drawings of his boyfriend on the pages. He's got a good education, but mainly about nature, history, and the like. He doesn't care for mathematics, especially. He sees the best in everyone, and is able to look past appearances and see people for who they truly are. He gets along with almost everyone, though first meetings are stressful for him. Once someone has gotten close to him in any way, he showers them with gifts and affection- especially if he's romantically involved with the person. Bracelets, books, paintings- anything he can think of. He's a master gift-giver, seeming to know exactly what someone would enjoy.
Strengths: Loving, thoughtful, and polite, Arlen is almost the perfect caretaker for his strange family. He isn't at all perturbed when a huge gnarled, skeletal creature trots up and growls in his face. Instead, be begins speaking to it, gives it scratches behind the ear, and throws a stick a few times.
Weaknesses: He's absolutely horrible at public speaking. He clams up in stressful situations, stumbling over his words and stuttering. He suffers from panic attacks when worst comes to worst. However, he's never panicked that badly over his unusual occupation. Just people.
Likes: Spring and summer, lazy days, mornings, sunny weather, reading and tea.
Dislikes: Winter, and being away from home for long periods of time.
Background: He was raised with strange creatures all over the place, and as a child he'd often fall asleep curled up with the family pet, 999. They called him Benny. He'd sleepily wake up at night to a tall skeleton man in a leather jacket tucking him in, pressing a bony kiss to his forehead before smiling gently and telling him to go back to sleep. His parents would eat breakfast with an invisible woman, the only indicator she was there the floating mug of tea, and the pajamas. (Arlen liked her. She would read him stories sometimes.) As he grew up, his parents slowly introduced him to the more… disturbing SCPs. They were absolutely harmless, but their appearance could horrify some. Still, Arlen grew to love them and their presence in the home. It didn't feel right to live without them, and when he had to go away for any reason, he missed his family- both biological and chosen- terribly. When he turned twenty, he was slowly put in charge of the estate since his parents were getting older and tiring of the position. They moved to a farmhouse a few miles away, taking care of a few child SCPs there. They visit Arlen often, of course bringing along their metaphorical children.
Other: He jokes about his tough feet and their likeness to those of a hobbit from Lord of The Rings. (It's one of his favorites.)

@Elder-God-Jacks347

Name: Carson Isaac Gardner
Age: 23
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: At 5'7", he's relatively thin but he still has some squish to him, particularly in his face (which he absolutely despises). He's near ghostly pale from too many hours indoors with shoulder length strawberry blonde hair he keeps tied up in a bun away from his face. His dark blue eyes have some deep bags from years of lack of sleep and a small scar just over his left eye from a childhood mishap that nearly took his eye with it. He, unlike his boyfriend, actually does have freckles and they are everywhere but mostly on his cheeks and nose. He chooses to dress comfortably, opting for a fluffy sweater or warm flannel and comfortable jeans, often times paired with his reading glasses (all the time staring at screens hadn't done his eyes any good) and a scarf regardless of the weather. He loves his worn out tennis shoes and wears them everywhere, often times trying to remind his boyfriend that it's not socially acceptable to go everywhere barefoot. It's a fruitless endeavor but he tries.
Personality: Carson is a kind soul, if not a bit of a pushover. He's very much the mom friend, trying to keep those he cares about alive and out of prison. He's always tired and has a kinda short temper because of it. He is sarcastic, sassy, and is way too tired to take anyone's bull. He loves with everything he is and is brutally honest because of it. But he's still a snugglebug and a softie to those he really cares about.
Strengths: Intelligent and patient, Carson is known for being a wonderful tutor and editor. He's not surprised by much, especially by the disturbing or weird so people love coming to him for horror story editing.
Weaknesses: Him and water don't mix. He fears the ocean more than death and gets the worse case of seasickness. He spends the entirety of boat rides sitting in the middle of the deck with his eyes squeezed shut trying to keep everything from coming out of his body.
Likes: Summer, sleep, stars, night life, rain, and hot chocolate.
Dislikes: The ocean, liars, and rap music
Background: Carson grew up pretty normal compared to most. A loving home with his parents and three siblings. He's second out of four with his older sister Rachel and his younger twin brothers Arthur and Ryder. He grew up in the country and running around chasing after his siblings. When his sister moved out, the house calmed down and he pulled into himself, choosing to dive into writing and the internet. His parents mostly left him be since he did good in school, particularly in math and English, and his brothers had each other so he was left to fall below their radar. When he moved out for college, he wanted to become someone, to find himself outside of the quiet and tucked away life he had. That's when he met Arlen and his life was turned upside down.
Other: He is always cold. No matter how warm or cold it is, he is constantly freezing and his hands are near frigid because of it to the point where he was afraid to hold hands without gloves for a while when he started dating Arlen.

Growing up, Arlen had never really considered how he would go about introducing someone new to his career. His parents had told him that it might have to happen one day- his father had to be introduced to what his mother did for a living as well. His mother had told Arlen stories about how his father panicked immediately upon seeing 131-A rolling around on the floor, and promptly fainted. The two of them laughed about it nowadays, but it didn't seem like it'd been funny in the moment. Arlen was taking every precaution he could while introducing Carson to this side of things. He'd filled out the proper paperwork a week or so ago, and gone to anyone he could find to get advice. While he'd prefer to take things slow and introduce his boyfriend to one of the SCPs more tame in appearance first, he knew there was no way of knowing whether or not 303- dubbed Greg- would show up around the corner and scare the life out of him. He was eager to merge the two most important parts of his life, though, and he had accepted that it might be a rough integration. He'd told everyone at his home what he'd be doing, and the more humanoid and adult of them agreed to watch those that might wander into Carson's path. It was a temperary solution, but it worked for now.

It was exactly 1:28 PM on a Saturday afternoon, and the two were mindlessly enjoying each other's presence. They were at Carson's, lounging on the couch and doing their own seperate things. Arlen was on his phone, nervously preparing himself to bring up the topic he'd avoided for so long. He kept sneaking glances over at Carson, trying to figure out how to phrase what he wanted to say.

@Elder-God-Jacks347

Carson knew nothing of Arlen's home life and honestly, he didn't mind it. He knew from friends what it was like to come from a rough place and figured that Arlen would tell him when he was ready so he didn't bother trying to push it.

He was sitting on the window seat in the sun, working on proofreading a paper for a friend on his laptop and acutely noticing Arlen's constant staring at him. Now mind you, Carson didn't mind when his boyfriend stared at him in the slightest but this time was…different. In a way that made him nervous. Finally, he closed his laptop with a sigh and turned to Arlen.
"Okay, what is it? You know I'll never complain about you staring at me but this is just getting weird. So spill it."

Arlen blinked owlishly for a moment, chuckling awkwardly and glancing away. "I- uh. I was just thinking." He cleared his throat, sucking in a deep breath. "A-about introducing you to my family," he clarified, carefully watched Carson and trying to gauge his reaction. Was this a bad idea? Probably. Was he going through with it any way? Absolutely.

He tried to turn his attention back to the small screen he held in his lap, but was very obviously too nervous to refocus. He still attempted to look nonchalant and casual, though. If this went badly… He didn't want anything to happen to Carson, even if he wouldn't remember it. More than anything though, he didn't want to have to carry the pain of knowing he couldn't stay with his boyfriend if things went awry. He was trying to focus on the positives, though. He'd always been an optimist.

@Elder-God-Jacks347

Carson's eyes widened, startled. Arlen bringing up his family on his own was a rare occurrence, if it happened at all. So to go from never talking about them to wanting to introduce them was a big leap that took Carson by surprise.

He cleared his throat, breaking his frozen state to answer. "Sunshine, I'd love to meet your family. If they're anything like you, how bad could it really be?"

Even though they'd been together for nearly a year, Arlen still stumbled over his words a bit when his boyfriend called him that. Sunshine. He cleared his throat. There was time to marvel over how adorable Carson was later.

"I mean, yeah, my parents are great but we, uh. The family business is- erm- a bit… much." After a moment, he turned his phone off and slipped it into his pocket. "Like, I haven't told you about it because I wasn't sure if you could handle it. It's intense."
