@Ziggy-loves-Shiggy
You grew up in a world that seemed so peaceful and bright.
You lived in a large town of quaint little brick and stone buildings lined neatly on wide streets lined with perfectly cut hedges, a clean subdivision with friendly neighbors. You went to a private school and earned grades at the top of your class. Smiling politicians with smooth voices reassured you of all the good they were doing through the TV screen, and the policemen on the street always offered a friendly wave as they passed by.
Your life wasn't perfect. There were family troubles; sometimes school was hard; friend-drama stressed you out from time to time. On a rare occasion, you heard of some crime, or someone being bullied, but it didn't happen all that much. Those kinds of things were mostly limited to rumors and fiction. Overall, your problems were smaller. You were a pretty good kid. Most people liked you. You lived in your own little world, your own little bubble. You played by the rules, and you were okay with it.
Until your world got wrecked, and that silly little bubble of yours popped without warning. The rules, suddenly broken, went flying out the window.
It all happened so quickly; you didn't mean for it, really. But… you did it, nonetheless.
What was it?
Were you at your friend's house when his alcoholic father came stumbling in with obscene threats? Was that old baseball bat just within your reach as the intoxicated man slammed a clenched fist into his own son's face? Did you act without thinking? Did you kill a man?
Was it that creepy guy who noticed you at the party last night, the one who followed you home? Did he corner you in the alley behind your apartment and make advances that could only be taken as threatening? Were you still holding that wine bottle in your hand when he grabbed you? Did you hit him with it? Did you kill a man?
Did you see those bullies shoving on that skinny little high-school boy out by the old brickyard? Did you hear what they were saying to him, those threats and cruel remarks? Did anger fuel you to pick up a brick and lob it at one of them when they laid an abusive hand on him? Did it hit him? Did you kill a man?
What was it? How did it happen? Actually, nevermind. It doesn't even matter, does it? All that matters now is that you found yourself staring at his limp body, blood oozing from his temple. Your wide eyes stared into his lifeless ones, and you realized what you had done. You killed an unarmed man, and in a passivist world, you knew your fate would be one behind bars.
And you were right.
Here you are now, in jail, soon to be sent to prison. The event replays in your brain, over and over and over again. Never before had you been in such a situation; how could you have known what to do? You were just trying to defend… and now, look. You became a murderer. It didn't matter that you had a reason for why you killed him. All acts of aggression are against the law, and you broke that law, making you just as lousy at the scumbag you killed.
The people in the jail inform you that prison is nothing like the world you're used to. Apparently the rules of passivism don't apply there. The inmates will eat you alive, and the guards won't do anything to stop it. You won't survive. Your life is over. This is, essentially, your death sentence.
Until a stranger with a peculiar offer shows up the night before you are to be sent to the prison.
Essentially, Character A (your character) is some normal kid in a futuristic passivist world where all forms of weapons and violence are outlawed. At first glance, it looks like an ideal society, and there's rarely any reports of violence or murder or rape in the news. That sounds grand— but the reality of this world is that crime is more rampant than ever. It's just swept under the rug, hidden in the shadows. Most of the people who get arrested are normal people trying to defend themselves from robbers or rapists, because hardened criminals know how to stay under the radar. It's a heavily dystopian world where everything is glossed over with this false idea of peace and safety when it's really just control, and the actual criminals and spreading like a nasty infection beneath the surface.
Character A finds themself in a situation where someone is in danger— whether it be their own person, a friend, or a complete stranger— and in the moment they act without thinking to protect the other person. They kill the aggressor… only to realize all too late what as happened and get dragged off to jail. Now it looks like their future is one of a terrifying prison life that will probably end in a bunch of horrific things happening to them before they die and ungodly death.
That is, until Character B (my character) shows up. A has never seen this guy before, but he says he knows about their crime, and that he doesn't think they deserve to go to prison. "In fact, I commend you," he says. He proceeds to tell them that he has an offer for them, one that will save you from a fate of prison. It's simple: Join him and his organization. His organization functions underground, beyond the radar of the government. The goal of the group is to deliver justice where the system as failed to, to help bring balance to this disgusting sugarcoated world that is actually rotting beneath. Some people think they're kind of brutal, but according to him, that's the only thing that can set this crooked society straight.
Character B has some beliefs that are questionable, and Character A will decide, by interacting with him as well as some of his colleagues, whether they agree with his views or not. They will also be introduced to the dark details of this crooked world.
Honestly, the best way to describe this RP is like one of those Choose Your Own Adventure Books, or perhaps some sort of video game. I've done a lot of worldbuilding and will probably play various characters that your character interacts with. Your character's choices change the trajectory of this and will affect how it goes. Their decisions will effect the outcome; they can make allies, enemies, or both. I will play a handful of character during this, but I will not overwhelm you. Don't worry.
This roleplay is dystopian, but also has a lot of crime-gang themes. It will have a lot of action, violence, gore, and references to darker themes. Please warn me of any triggers in advance. The age rating on this is given due to references to rape and similar themes as well as brutal violence and possibly torture scenes in the future. There will be no explicit sexual encounters or scenes in this whatsoever. Language must be kept at PG-13, with nothing vulgar tolerated. No superpowers or supernatural elements are allowed. You must be decent at RPing to join. This can include romance if you want, but it is not necessary.
Template will be posted when someone is interested.
