Will had barely ever left England, let alone travelled Europe. His dreams of travel had been taken when the Queen had practically enlisted him into her personal workforce and now he only ever went where she wanted him. There was the odd trip to Wales, even Scotland, where Her Majesty thought that his efforts and his brain would be needed in order to help, but for the most part, he stayed in London. It was his home, no matter that he worked there. Even if the streets of London were covered in smog and the streets were dirty, it was still home. The tiny apartment he had was home. Nothing would change that, unfortunately, and until there was something better for him in the world outside of London, he wasn't going to leave. And at this point, he didn't think that a better opportunity would be arising anytime soon.
"It's not embarrassing, it's quite sweet, actually." The detective couldn't help his soft smile. He wondered what Edvin's mother was like - or what she had been like. Whether or not her son was like her in the same respect of coming across as calm and stoic upon first meeting but was really a darling underneath. Did she love adventure as much as Will and his mother, did? There were many questions but he left them unspoken. As much as he wanted to get to know the man at his side, he didn't want to scare him away, otherwise, Will would be left to uncover this case on his own and he didn't think he was up for that.
Travelling here alone had been a task in itself. He didn't want to imagine what it might be like to go out into unknown territory with a serial killer, no less, on the loose and not have a clue where to go, who to turn to or what to do.
"I've never been to a ball," Will mused, chewing on his lower lip for a moment before he continued, "I used to dream of them, as a child as an… escape. How grand they seemed to be in stories and the papers spoke of Her Majesty's in ways that were breathtaking." Edvin was lucky, in his eyes, that he got to experience them.
