@Moriarty
Society is perfect.
At least, that's what the Grand Elector Quentin Pryor says. And, at first glance, he seems quite right. There are no homeless. No sick. No disabled. The population is small, but the people live happy, pleasant lives. They work the jobs they want, and the more shameful positions that no one wants are all filled by androids are machines– so no one has to work them anyways. Education is plentiful, and cheap. Diversity is erased, but equality is embraced. Everyone lives in walled cities and eats artificial meat so that no animals have to die (and pets, too, are outlawed; but you can have an android dog or cat if the government okays it)– and the rural areas have been turned back over to the wildlife. Technology has advanced with leaps and bounds.
This is Utopia. This is the year 2130.
But… what if Utopia is not a perfect society? What if living in cities and being separated from nature isn't so good for humanity? What if diversity and equality must go hand in hand? Where are the sick? The homeless? The disabled? What if the measures taken by the government to limit the population are dark and barbaric?
No. Those statements are ridiculous. No one questions Utopia, and anyone who does vanishes. I'm sure they're fine, though. Nothing bad happens to anyone here. Not in Utopia. This is heaven. This is bliss. Everything is good and fair here, so long as you follow the rules. But by all means, make sure you follow the rules.
What are these rules, you might ask? Well, here are a few.
- No one shall produce offspring without both parents being evaluated and given permission. Each family shall only have one child unless given direct permission to do otherwise.
- No one shall leave their homes after or before the set curfew.
- No one shall own weapons.
- No one shall own unapproved technological devices.
- Anyone who is ill must visit a doctor if within the daylight curfew hours.
- Anyone who is terminally sick must be taken to a hospital, whether contagious or not.
- All children born with disabilities of any kind must be given to the government to receive proper care.
- No one shall makes sales of any kind without permission of the government.
- No one shall speak negative of the Grand Elector or the government.
- No one shall speak negative of another person in public.
- Homeless must report to a shelter, and the government will provide accommodation.
On top of this, there are the cameras set up in every corner of every city, and the countless other regulations to follow. But these are all for your protection, of course. Breaking any of these rules results in arrest and maybe even incarceration. This, too, is only for your protection.
After all, we can't risk letting anything destroy what we've worked so hard to build.
We can't risk allowing ingrates to tear down our kingdom.
But the truth of the matter is that Utopia isn't perfect at all. The population must be kept low in order for everything to operate as it does– in this essentially communist state. That seems all good and well, until one realizes how many died in order for it to get this way. Those homeless people that go to the shelters? Why, they aren't rehabilitated. They're killed. Actually for the entertainment of those who run the government, including Quentin Pryor himself. The sick? Slaughtered like animals. It would cost too much to make them recover, as far as the leaders are concerned, so they might as well be eliminated. The same goes for the disabled. Whether mentally or physically, no one wants to take care of them, and the government isn't interested in having "flawed" citizens, as they say. So they're killed for the sport and entertainment of the leaders as well. Orphans, too.
Of course, the average Joe living in Utopia doesn't know this. They just know they never see anyone struggling, so life must be good. But they don't know what really happens. And those who do know– families of disabled or sick– are usually deceived by a sweet-talking rep who says, "Don't worry; I promise your family member will be happier if you allow us to take them and care for them. They'll have a better life this way." That's a lie, but how would anyone know? And those poor guilt-tripped family gladly waves their parent or child or sibling goodbye, wishing them well, unknowingly sending them to a grave.
Oh, and criminals? They're slaughtered, too. Also for entertainment. And anyone who breaks the "rules" sanctioned by Quentin Pryor is considered a criminal. Of course, sometimes he's lenient. Break one of the smaller ones and you'll get threatened or punished mildly, but you'll never see the true colors until you're already across the line. Criminals that do happened to get released from "prison" are always made examples of. No one knows what happens to them, and they're too afraid to ask, but these poor souls are empty shells of themselves, brainwashed and often scared to even think about breaking a rule ever again.
In this RP, you can play more than one character, because I will likely play several. I will play Quentin Pryor, police officers, and government agents as needed. I will also likely play characters that are leaders of a "secret resistance" that the government is trying to obliterate; this resistance is not known to the public. I think it would be easiest for you to being with a single character, but you may use more if you like, and you're always welcome to bring in new ones throughout.
Some ideas for your starting character could be:
- An average person living a fairly normal life until they find out they have an illness (OR they become homeless and report to a shelter). From here, they realize things aren't quite as fair as they should be.
- A conspiracy theorist that has been trying to determine the truth in secret for years and gets discovered/ recruited by the resistance.
- Someone who happens to meet a physically disabled teen (my character) on the run one day who begs them (your character) to help them hide.
- Etc, etc, etc. We can discuss. Please tell me your ideas.
RP rules are simple |
- No cursing or profanity.
- Violence welcome, but don't be incredibly extreme with the gore.
- Romance is welcomed, but keep in mind that all my characters are heterosexual.
- Sex scenes are not allowed. Only PG-13 romance.
- No auto-hitting or godmodding. Please don't be OP, okay?
- Feel free to discuss ideas and questions with me, but try to keep my plot in mind and respect the worldbuilding I've done. I'm willing to work things out with you though, and I don't bite.
- Let me reiterate: NO PROFANITY.
- Don't let this die on me, please. If you have to be away for a few days, I understand. Try to let me know in advance. I go on random hiatuses, so I won't hold it against you if you get busy, just please inform me.
- Use decent grammar. You don't have to be an English teacher, and even I have a crap ton of typos, but… punctuation is an important thing to use, alright?
- I'll post templates once people start showing interest. I'll also tell more about the character(s) I intend to be using.
- I may be willing to do reboots if you're eager.
- Please be aware that this might get a little dark. Not dirty, per se, but dark themes will likely be referred to.
