"Mmm, there's a good spot smack in the middle of the garden. I know that His Majesty probably had better plans for the spot, but a flowering tree would be quite lovely as it ages," River replied, stepping back as Lloyd stretched to avoid getting brushed by his wings, "Maybe a fruit tree? Those tend to flower and I think the fruit would be a nice touch. Then again, a wisteria would be very beautiful. Have you any suggestions as to what we should plant, Your Highness?"
"Mm… I don't know too much about trees, to be honest, but I've always been fond of willows. You know the kind… um… the weeping willows with the big, droopy branches." Lloyd folded his wings again and looked up at River. "But really, pretty much anything is fine with me. I'm just happy for the experience."
"Weeping willows are nice! That'd make a perfect addition to the garden. Maybe we could also place a bench under it as it gets older?" River said, "Y'know, they actually grow quite quickly and can fully mature in about 15 years with proper care."
River headed towards the exit of the throne room as he spoke, hoping Lloyd was following. "We'll have to go out and buy a sapling, but I don't think that'll take too long."
Lloyd smiled softly and nodded, looking around to make sure he wasn't being watched before trailing after River. "I'm sure it'll be very quick. I'm not sure where you purchase the plants, though. They don't let me go out to town as much as I would like to…" He sighed quietly.
"Well, there're plant nurseries and then roadside vendors. It's up to you which we check out, but with a plant nursery, we're more likely to get what we want. Roadside vendors aren't exactly the most honest of people," River chuckled.
He froze in his tracks for a second before turning back to Lloyd. "You wouldn't happen to have some plain clothes to use as a disguise, would you? Keeping you safe should probably be one of our priorities. I've got a guard buddy who can come with us and won't snitch as well."
"Alright." Lloyd kept walking, but stopped in his tracks when River did. "Um… yeah, I've probably got something I can wear. Should I go change?" He asked, looking up at River curiously. "It might be a little difficult to hide my wings, but I can try to if need be."
"It would be preferable for you to change," River said, wiping a smudge of dirt off his own face as he spoke, "I'd say we could use a cape to hide your wings but it's far too hot out for that. I'll go grab my guard friend while you go to change, and we can meet by the garden gates if that's okay?"
Lloyd nodded and turned around. "I'll be back soon." He headed up into his room and changed into a large hoodie and jeans. The hoodie had holes in the back for his wings, but he kept the feathery appendages inside the hoodie so they were less visible. After he changed, he headed to the garden gates to meet River.
