In an invisibly fast movement Lia had thrown a punch square on Farah’s face. « I’d say welcome, but you’re not welcome. So hello again? » she drawled as she backed away slightly.
In an invisibly fast movement Lia had thrown a punch square on Farah’s face. « I’d say welcome, but you’re not welcome. So hello again? » she drawled as she backed away slightly.
Farah winced, but her face was already healing itself. Amazing! “Oh yes, I understand. It’s not like I wanted to be here but one of your cronies had to go and bite me!” she huffed.
Lia narrowed her eyes. "As if you don't deserve it. Besides, if anything we're the ones worst off having to handle you for the rest of eternity."
Farah laughed. “You’ll get used to it,” she assured the other girl with a grin. Now I have to get used to the idea of living forever, she added mentally. I may keep trying to save my skin, but I don’t know if I want to live forever…
Lia's eyes flashed in rage. She doesn't remember, does she? She bit her lip and squared her shoulders. "You're hungry. Follow me." She turned and started walking towards the darker alleyways.
Farah followed, her steps light and quick despite her disgust and confusion. She wondered where exactly they were going and what awaited them there, staying on her guard.
They turned the corner into an alley lit in flickering firelight. The hunched shadows of various sleeping bodies came into view, and Lia walked up to the closest one and kicked it. Two bleary eyes turned to look up at the pale woman before them.
“Your turn.”
The homeless woman smiled and took Lia’s hand, and the latter guided the woman towards Farah. “Dig in,” Lia spat at the hunter.
Farah grinned, fangs glinting she did so, though on the inside she was disgusted and more than a bit horrified. But she couldn’t let the other girl see her as weak, so she went ahead anyway. “Don’t mind if I do,” she said smoothly before leaning in and bit the woman’s neck, draining the blood out of her bit by bit. The woman got paler and paler as she died. “I’m sorry,” Farah whispered, lip trembling, just before the woman went limp. Then she erased her expression and turned to Lia. “Done.”
Lia’s experienced hearing picked up the apology, and her expression morphed into one of pure hate. She didn’t bother to wipe the expression off her face before Farah turned to face her.
“Okay, better?” She asked coldly.
“Yes, better,” Farah replied, just as coldly. Though she wasn’t sure why the other girl hated her even more now. Had she heard the apology? Of course vampires liked to kill their victims and watch their suffering. Because they were evil.
Lia paused, studying Farah. Then she turned and stalked off, not bothering to check if the newborn was following her.
At least the hate is mutual. I’ll have an excuse to hurt her if it comes to that.
Farah trailed behind, glancing around. She felt like the introverted friend at the party, clinging to another friend who knew what to do. Though calling the two of them friends would be an outright lie. Farah blew a stray curl out of her face.
They walked in silence, until Lia couldn't stand it anymore. "How did you get turned?"
She was hoping Farah remembered. Besides, with Farah telling her the story, she'd be able to gauge how the latter was feeling about the whole… situation.
Farah frowned, trying to recall. “It’s a bit hazy, but I remember that I was walking alone, trying to get my mind off of things. I had some garlic with me, but I must have lost it. Anyway, a vampire caught up to me and I fought him off but another one bit me from behind. I managed to keep fighting before they killed me, but after they were gone, collapsed,” she explained.
Lia set her jaw. Do not feel sorry for this woman. She couldn't help but keep asking questions. "You turned alone?"
“Yes…” Farah answered, a bit on edge from the question. “You didn’t?”
Lia shook her head. “My sister…” She couldn’t bring herself to finish. “No. I didn’t. Let’s just get back to the Hotel.”
Farah wondered what Lia was going to say next, but knew that she wouldn’t reveal it now. Farah nodded. “Okay. Is that where all of the other vampires are?”
"It is, and where the Head is as well. You'll get to meet him tonight although I'm not sure how pleasant that'll be got you," Lia deadpanned.
“Head? You guys have a leader?” Farah asked, clearly thinking. Under her breath she added, “I knew it…”
“You’re not going to want to hurt him.” She shrugged it off, however, and didn’t linger. “Do you happen to know your body count of people in our clan?”
“Not off the top of my head,” Farah admitted. “Though I’d say about twenty, give or take.” She paled. That was a lot of bodies. “He’s going to kill me.”
