"Been here for about an hour, I finished all my work and the master was going ti give me more things to copy but I left." He laughed and looked at all the trinket Roux brought. Immediately he grabbed feathers and the coloured pens, gently putting them in his bag then grabbing a small bag of dried mango. He glanced at the other things and picked up one of the discs. "What is this?" He asked putting it up to his eye.
Aella sat down on the floor, grabbing a few candles and some of the small bones. "Dunno. Mind letting me see?" She asked, looking over at Nate. "Also, forgot to ask, how did the work go today?" She looked over at him, head tilted slightly.
(I'll be alternating between Nate and Nathan. He's hated the name Nathaniel and is only called that by the master, when he's in trouble, or when his friends are teasing him)
Nate passed the glass circle to Aella with a curious smile. "Work was ok. The master actually grunted when I showed him the new book I finished transcribing so that was a great achievement." He bit his lip, thinking of what else happened today. "Oh! I also managed to learn a new binding technique and created a new book. What about you? Anything interesting happened with you?"
"Good on you," Roux responded, knowing he'd have done the same in Nathan's place. "And I think they used to be a part of a wind chime, or maybe a telescope? I'm not really sure."
While the two picked through the pile, he swooped his journal in his satchel and stood, quickly sidestepping out of their light. He laid his bag on the beanbag, effectively maintaining his claim on the spot as he migrated over to some shelves on the left side of the room. He snacked while he walked, only distantly paying mind to the conversation as he waited for an opportunity to jump in.
In the meantime, he found himself fiddling with a small mirror and some empty glass jars, noting with a satisfied hum that they'd be perfect for the petals if Nate and Aella didn't take them. There were a few scattered books—nothing compared to the amount in Nate's room, really—with small potted plants and succulents balanced on top or around other areas of the shelf. There were also a couple of brightly colored fabrics serving as placemats for other knickknacks, his favorite of which being a salmon pink cloth with white, embroidered floral designs.
"What do you guys think about getting a table in here?" he questioned, waiting until he was sure he wasn't interrupting anything to ask. He turned curiously to gauge their reactions, resting the mirror back on the shelf as he did and suppressing a mischievous grin.
"It would need to be quite large. We all have varying interests and if we decide to work on our projects in the common room, we will need some space." Nathan picked up a couple of the glass pieces and saw a curved needle made of bone. He pocketed both those things and stretched. "I think I'll use some of these glass pieces to create a magnifying device. It will be useful for when I'm painting fine details on books."
Aella nodded slightly. "Well, if we can find a decent one, it could definitely work." She said, toying with one of the bones she picked up. "The question is just where to find one."
Roux hummed in agreeance but quirked an eyebrow at Aella's statement. "Actually, I think the real question is how you guys are planning on getting it in here. Skies know how Nathan managed to carry a desk in," he commented, before quickly shaking his head. "Wait, that's not the point. The point I was trying to make is, without a table, I can't dramatically unfurl this cool map I found!"
He reached in a pocket on the inside of his thin cloak and pulled out a rolled-up sheet of paper, wings ruffled with excitement. He hurried back over to his two friends, half-falling, half-kneeling to show them as he tried to spread it out. The corners kept curling inwards, and he exasperatedly set a few candles on the edges so they would stay in place.
"I think it belonged to the guard at some point," he explained enthusiastically, hand hovering over the detailed ink representation of Cradle before apparently spotting what he was trying to find. Stealing Nathan's idea, he grabbed one of the leftover glass pieces and held it over the map, frowning slightly when it turned the image upside down. After a brief moment of thought, he grabbed another one and stacked it, holding the edges firmly to keep them from slipping off due to the curves. It really did magnify the image, and he took a second to send an appreciative, slightly awe-filled look at Nathan's cleverness before gesturing to the map again.
"I found this in a trunk of my dad's things. I think we're here, but notice how the area right here is completely blank?" he asked, tapping the places he was referring to.
"I brought it piece by piece of the course of 2 weeks and fixed it here. I'm grateful that the master let me purchase a large bag to carry with me when I got out." He said proudly, responding to Roux's question. While listening to what he was saying, Nathan un furled his wings and plucked out some loose feathers that were irritating and itching him.
"I see that, what is it?" He asked, leaning over the map to look closely at the section Roux was pointing to. "Also, are you allowed to go through your dad's things?"
