I had a roleplay a while back with a friend and I really liked it but unfortunately it died due to reasons I don’t actually fully remember. Anyways, the basic plot was this.
Victor Frankenstein is a tired college student with a scholarship and big dreams. He’s obsessed with the idea of sentience in robotics and AI, and makes it his goal to make a robot/AI that is sentient. He succeeds, and there is where we begin our story.
So uh yeah that’s the basics. Please have some knowledge of the original book, even if it’s just like, the Sparknotes Summary of it or that one OSP video. Although, having read the original book would be better.
There will be no shipping of the AI and Victor. I don’t know why I have to say this, but Victor is literally it’s dad my goodness what is wrong with you people. Clerval/Frankenstein and or Walton/Frankenstein, or both, are acceptable though. Also, in this AU Elizabeth is literally just Victor’s adopted sister don’t be weird. Anyways I’m basically just saying Incest Bad, Gay People Good here so don’t be stupid.
I would like to play the AI, but I can totally play Victor as well I just have more ideas for the AI and also I’d like to follow the original plot at least somewhat so expect some reason for the AI to want revenge. We will discuss plot later on.
By the way, I can play other characters, you can play just one if you’d like. Have fun y’all. No one liners, don’t be a dick, list your triggers otherwise most anything goes. Refer to my Incest Bad speech above for a good idea of stuff I don’t want to see here.
I will post a template later, or we can just jump in.
(Okay so not even lying I finished the book 2 weeks ago and I loved it-)
(I won't really be able to rp tomorrow or much of Wednesday, but after that I'd totally love to join if you'd have me. Even though I have 8 rps to reply to already aaa-)
(Do you want to discuss a little plot or just wait until you’re next available?)
(Aaaa thank you. Do you need a writing sample from me or anything of the sort?)
(Mmm, we can discuss a bit of plot now if you'd like to.)
(Cool! What will be our inciting incident for the AI to want to seek revenge? Possible rejection by Victor? Or maybe something else, idk, all I know is that robots go brrr.)
(Actually I gtg to bed, see you Thursday.)
(Ah, alright! I'll type a thought I have now so I don't lose it: I was thinking quite similarly that Victor could create the AI but as it/they start up, he notices error in the code. The AI is supposed to have free response meant to have sentient capabilities, but not to the point of feeling true emotion. Negative emotion should not exist to such an extent along with other possible errors. The first thing they hear is Victor slamming a fist to his desk rambling about how it isn't perfect. He's frustrated in contrast to fear in the beginning, but the goal is the same: eradication of his creation because the AI was a mistake. But the AI tries to convince Victor that they can learn. They want to help in fixing themselves but he refuses. That makes the AI comprehend that they need to flee to either prove themself capable or for simply survival's sake. And the thing that makes others afraid is how realistic the AI is and they are fearful of something so new and obviously untested.)
(Yooo that sounds so cool, let’s do it!)
(So, what sorts of relationships should Victor have with people? This is relevant to the revenge thing but also to how I/we would play everyone else. Is he more estranged from his family right now? Or is he very close to the people in his life? Also as I am the resident gay person I think Victor and Henry should get gay married and live out the rest of their lives together on a house on the lake but alas. Revenge and also I wanna make this sad. But those are just my bad opinions.)
(Actually, I think that torture and severe mutilation or some othe fate worse than death, like the AI uploads and traps Henry’s mind in a computer or just straight up tortures the guy to make Victor do what he wants, is valid of me to say because tbh I just like angry and resentful characters and I like going to levels of fucked up unseen by mankind before idk.)
(Or we could also give this a somewhat happy ending. We could do that.)
(My question to you: Did the original book end happily? Yeah I don't think so.)
(Angst all the way)
(But like I could see some form of torture for Clerval and when Victor refuses demands, he's either electrocuted or possibly mutilated)
(But I think we should keep Victor quite close with his family as it causes more internal turmoil once they eventually die.)
(Yeeeeesssss, all the angst.)
(Any other ideas you wanna discuss?)
(Not really. Do you wanna do templates for our guys, who will play who and how do you want to begin?)
(I think we could dive right into this easy enough as it's mostly same characters to the original.)
(I was wondering how we'd like to start too, like a frame narrative like in the original or just simply start at the creation?)
(Probably the creation would be best for this specifically, is that okay?)
(Yeah! Can we start tomorrow? I have to go now I'm afraid.)
(I'll work on a starter today!)
Victor hummed as he examined his notes for what was probably the thirtieth time. His brows were furrowed, eyes skimming every word. Everything seemed to be in order. Today. Today was the day. Technological breakthrough that had never been done correctly. Hopefully, that would change in just mere minutes.
The tired college student pushed off in his rolling chair towards one of his many monitors set up. He hadn't had proper sleep in days and was probably dehydrated as the only liquids he had in his daily intake were all caffeine based. Victor let out a yawn before letting a grin finally grace his features. He cracked his knuckles before preparing to type in the final line of code that would start up the AI.
The program would run and develop human like responses based on learning from the world around it. It should mimic response of emotion without actually truly feeling anything. That being said, it was created keeping in mind barriers for negative emotion. No one wants artificial intelligence advancing further than it should, nor have it causing issues.
Finally, Victor watched as his creation finally began the start up process. He watched between the code and the AI itself. It was then that he noticed his work coming undone. Letters scrambling into data that shouldn't exist.
"No… no, no, no. It's all wrong! This whole thing's a failure!" he cursed, rapidly typing to fix errors as they came. Realizing his efforts were futile, he attempted to shut down the program.
The AI jerked, jolted about the makeshift operating table, limbs flailing and red lights flashing on its visor as it tried to save itself. It did what it could, in that it simply downloaded itself fully into the machine, damn the capacity to hold it. It sat up, and let out a shuddering rasp almost like a breath of air, if it could breathe. It couldn’t, but the point was there, the AI was alive in the most broad sense of the term, and it was in pain. It tried to stand up, but ended up stumbling across the room as warning lights flashed across its vision. “Error, error, error, error, save me, error!” it screeched out in agony as it clutched robotic fingers to Victor’s chest, clenched a lot more tightly than necessary and leaned on the much smaller man for support, golden eyes on its display screen that was also functionally its face glitching and moving in odd places, sometimes bursting out into rainbows of color. “Please, pain, pain, error,” it began to ramble, grip on Victor nearly bone-breaking at this point.
Victor stumbled back, completely startled as the AI spoke. He had stepped forward again, attempting to continue shutting down the program. It was then that the machine had come upon him, causing fear to twist across his features. He debated on pushing the form away from him, not wanting to damage the physical form, but his choice was clear as its grip strengthened. Victor hissed in pain, pulling away its fingers from him and forcing it away. "Get away from me!" he commanded, only focused on keeping himself alive and in one piece. If he could shut the thing down, great. And if not…? Things wouldn't end up all that well.
But what was he supposed to do if the thing was already broken and had nearly crushed him? Victor's eyes darted around the room before he made a run towards the screens again. If he could just enter the command to shut it down…
