"Yes! Everyone here is… kind. We care about our fellow students, even if they're being stupid." She laughed quietly, muffling the giggles behind her hand. "Especially if they're being stupid, I think. Nothing brings us together like pulling dumb shit at parties."
"I guess you'll have to show me about the trouble you get up during parties sometime" she purred quietly, leaning in closer to her face for a second before moving back again, pushing her hair out of her face with a free hand as her other played with a pencil on her desk.
Valerie let out a sad little sigh when Emma pulled away, but she brushed it off with a sly grin. "Maybe I will. I heard there's a party next week at Eva's and I always pull my dumbest shit at her house. Will you be there?"
"Sure, why not?" she hummed, twirling a piece of straight hair in her delicate and thin fingers. "When is it?" she asked, looking her in the eyes as she spoke, their icy blue colour unknowingly seductive.
Valerie flushed at the direct attention, forcing herself to stare down at the desk as her cheeks heated. Butterflies started to stir in her stomach and she had to take a deep breath before talking just to calm herself down. "I… um… Well, it's Sunday. At… 7? Or… uh… maybe 8."
“I think I can make it. Is it ok if I bring Lucas?” She asked, not wanting to exclude her ‘party’ boyfriend from a party. “He rather likes parties.” She explained, her eyes never moving from her as she spoke
Lucas' name hit Valerie like a bucket of cold water. Her blush dimmed to a dull pink and her flustered studying smoothed into something colder. God, why did he bother her so much!? "… totally. I'm sure Eva'll love having another guy who's taken at her parties. Keeps random people from hooking up in the bathrooms n' shit."
She nodded, smirking at her reaction. “You seem stunned by my question. Do you have a crush on Lucas or something?” She teased, raising an eyebrow before taking a sip of her water. She still kept eye contact, a habit of hers that either people liked or didn’t.
Valerie snorted loudly, earning herself a dirty look from the teacher. She grimaced playfully and looked at Emma with raised eyebrows. "Are you kidding me? No offense to you, but he's really not my type." Not that Valerie really knew what her type was. She'd never been particularly picky about who she liked.
"Well shit, I guess I'm not your type then either" she laughed softly, holding her nose so she wouldn't make as much noise as she laughed. "That sucks" she sighed, a mock-pout on her lips before she smiled again, her eyes sparkling in the light.
The bell soon rang, everyone was bolting out of their seats and then the door within 5 seconds of the ring. Lucas came over just as Emma stood up, "Salut amour. Est-qu'il y a dîner maintenant ?" she asked after pressing her lips to his for a quick moment as a greeting. "Je pense oui" he responded, his hair falling down messily in his face as he looked her face over before kissing her softly again.
Emma pulled away after returning the kiss, smiling back over at Valerie. "Valerie has invited us to a party this… Sunday you said?" she asked as she held her binder and notebook to her chest.
"Yep!" Valerie's voice was thick with forced enthusiasm, a wide smile splitting her face. To someone who wasn't paying attention, it looked genuine. She slammed her hands down on the desk to push herself up. "I'll see you Friday, Emma. Have a nice day." And with that, she quickly left the room.
"Tomorrow," she said back to her, smiling softly before beginning to talk to Lucas once again, waiting for him to get packed up. She watched through the hallway window as Valerie left, her lip tucking in her teeth.
Friday, 15:27
Emma just finished up in her literature class and was now at her locker, putting away everything into her back and slinging it over her shoulder before closing her locker and beginning to walk to her bus stop.
Valerie got out of biology at the same time, smiling cheerfully as she spotted Emma in the hall. "Yo! Emma!" She waved as she slipped over. "I'm heading home with you, right?"
Emma looked up and around smiling when she spotted Valerie. "Yeah! If you want you can ride the bus with me?" she asked as she watched her walk over, her eyes sparkling in the sunlight in the window and door the was standing next to.
"Sounds great!" Valerie finished jogging over and linked her arm with Emma's. "Can I borrow bus fare? I promise I'll pay you back, I'm just kind of broke right now. Expensive habits and all that jazz." She rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. "Pretty please?"
"You don't have to ask twice" she replied, bumping her with her hips as they walked outside and began the block walk to the bus stop. "So, any theme to the party on Sunday?" she asked once they were halfway, pay for two bus tickets in her left hand.
Valerie smiled gratefully at her, bumping back with a quiet laugh. She hummed consideringly at Emma's question, tapping her lips with her free hand as she tried to remember. "I think it's a… what's the word… a mask… maskeraid?" Her accent twisted the word. "Like… the one where you dress up and put on a mask and kiss random strangers in the hallways on accident."

"Fun! I've always loved mystery" she replied, smiling softly as she jammed her finger in the crossroad button that would bring them to the bus station. "Casual dress code?" she asked, hoping she wouldn't have to go out and buy something.

"I mean, kinda." Valerie shrugged. "Sexy stuff is always encouraged, but you shouldn't have to go out and buy a ballgown or anything. I think I'm going to dress up."
"Sexy stuff huh? I'm sure I have something or other, I don't know though" she replied, biting her lip in thought before beginning to walk again when the cross sign lit up. "Maybe you could help me pick out a few options?" she asked, hoping she'd say yes.
