@Hawkeye
“We sleep in everyday, Rykah.”
“We sleep in everyday, Rykah.”
"Not long enough" grinned Rykah
Will rolled his eyes. “Fine.”
Rykah grinned, wrapping Will in a wing once more.
Will smiled, kissing him, and then received a text message.
Rykah would've leaned into the kiss, but instead let his arm wrap around Will's shoulder, "Who is it?"
“Sister.” Will said distractedly.
The text read, Come home. Now. We have an issue….
"You ok?"
“We have to go home, for some reason.”
Rykah nodded, taking Will's hand he warped them back, wobbling a little after the magical effort.
“You good?” Will asked him distractedly, noticing Anna sitting on the stairs. He quickly sat down next to her, startled to see tear tracks on her face.
“What’s going on, Anna?”
“Dalton and Jack….. got into a fight. Dalton’s dad called the police. Got here in record time.” Anna said, attempting to make a joke, but her shaky voice ruined it.
"Where are they?" Asked Rykah worriedly, "Anything I can do to help?"
“Jack… he’s caused too many problems before. And now…. there’s a good chance this was the last straw. He might be going to some stupid military school up north.”
"What?!" said Rykah, "Surely Dalton's dad can't do that… I thought there were laws against that sort of thing, saying that your mom would have to agree to it first!"
“Well, Dalton’s dad is a lawyer. He’ll dig up some B.S. law, and use it against him. And even if he couldn’t….. my mom would probably use it as an excuse to send him away. She loves him, she really does, but he isn’t the best behaved.”
"That's just wrong!" Said Rykah unsure of what to do, (and having no idea of what a lawyer actually is but we'll ignore that..) "There's gotta be something you can do, I mean, what were they even fighting over?"
“Me.” Will said angrily.
Anna nodded, looking upset.
“I’ll take his place. None of the adults will ever know. We’re identical.”
"I'll know" said Rykah sadly,
“I’m not letting my brother get sent off somewhere.” Will said indignantly. Just then, Jack came up the stairs. His face was unreadable, but he already had multiple bruises, and a cut on his face.
He sat down on the step in front of them, and leaned back against Anna’s legs, closing his eyes.
“You ok?” Anna asked quietly. The thing about Anna, was that she didn’t get quiet. If she did, something was wrong. And then the signal that something was up with Jack happened. He wiped his face angrily, wincing when he ran his hand across a bruise. He let out a sob, and buried his face in his hands.
Rykah watched with concern, unable to think of anything to say.
Will moved down to the bottom step, putting arm around Jack, who immediately buried his face in Will’s shoulder. Anna looked over st Rykah, and whispered, “He never cries. Something’s really, really wrong.”
"I got that…." said Rykah, softly "I wanna help… but I'm not sure what I could even do…."
Anna nodded, rubbing Jack’s shoulder.
After a few minutes, Jack straightened up, rubbed his face, got up, went to his room for a second, and came back with an extremely cold and stoic face.
Rykah didn't know what to do, but he kept watch in case someone else tried to interfere in the now twilight evening.
“Jack?” Will asked cautiously. Jack didn’t answer, instead walking down the stairs and finding his mother. After a few minutes of muffled talking, a “Go tell your brother and sister” was heard clearly.
Jack came back, and calmly said, “I’m leaving.” It was quite obvious that he wasn’t truly calm, but unless you knew him, you probably couldn’t tell.
