Sylvie snuck out of the dormitory, weaving through windows and hallways and broken fence gates like it was nothing. They wandered into the woods, rain pouring down on them and making their clothes heavy and damp. Still, they persisted, if only out of boredom and not wanting to be trapped in that stupid school anymore. They walked through the trees, staring up, until they reached their spot-a circle of stones, somehow completely dry and very, very warm. They did not step inside, instead they simply sat under a tree watching and waiting.

Orion watched out his window as the person ventured into the woods. He turned the page in his book and kept reading, flashlight wedged between his teeth. He could feel a headache coming on and knew he should go to sleep, but the overwhelming urge to follow the person consumed him. He got up, pulled on his jacket, and crept silently out of the dorm, less agile than his pursuit.

They sat, waiting. Still, nothing was happening, so they took out a book and began to chant the lines written inside of it. The circle seemed to get warmer by a degree or two, but still nothing came of it. Sylvie was about to give up when they heard branches cracking and leaves crunching; someone was coming.

Orion watched, enthralled as they chanted. He froze when he stepped on a stick that cracked under his foot and said rather loudly, "SHIT."

"Oh," they mumbled. So it was a person. They looked back to their circle, a bit desperately. Wouldn't something happen? Please? No, nothing. They might as well deal with the intruder. They drew a switchblade from their cloak, from one of the pockets inside the sleeve. "I know you're there. Come on out, and I won't have to hurt you."

"I dare you. I'd thank you if you stabbed me." He slunk into their line of vision, arms crossed, one eyebrow raised. "I'm not going to tell you it's past curfew, and instead ask what the hell you're doing."

"Summoning the Fae. Or Witches. I think I might be a Witch, but it's too early to tell. Anyways, I need advice." they shrugged, flipping through the pages of the book inquisitively. They didn't say any more, but the heat of the circle was slowly growing, and they were a bit too close for comfort, so they stepped back.

"Let me get this straight." He tipped his head. "You are summoning an unknown entity. In the forest." Orion turned his gaze to the circle of stones. "By the looks of it, you're doing quite well, actually."

"The stones were always like this. Sometimes I do things to make the circle heat up, but that's really all it does. I am considering human sacrifices… hmm." they said, giving Orion an inquisitive look. "Would you be interested in testing my theory?"
