Hmm.. I don't think so. Perhaps just go with the flow and see what happens? Oh! We're keeping this PG16 right? Or whatever the American equivalent to that is..

Alec didn’t notice the water seeping into his carpets. Not at first. He was just living his life, drinking some tea and watching TV as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was some mindless reality show that he had emotional stake in. No matter how bad it was, Alec could never get himself to stop watching it.

Anyway, about thirty minutes into the episode he was watching, he felt something cold touch his foot. He immediately recoiled and looked to see what it was, only to find his carpet half soaked. What? Getting up from his spot on the couch, he followed the water stains into his bathroom which, at this point, was overflowing. A pipe must have broke, or something.

“Shit,” he hissed, throwing towels on the ground. That did nothing, of course. Starting to panic, he called the building office and informed them of the events unfolding in his apartment. They told him to find another place to stay; they’d send someone to fix it later on.

Who would he stay with? His sister was probably too busy for him with her work. That was the case with most people he knew. He prayed that he had kind enough neighbors that would let him stay with them for a night or two. Quickly, he moved a bunch of things high up before gathering some clothing and other essentials and walking out of his door.

Alec’s head swiveled left and right. He barely knew his neighbors. As shown by the multiple ‘no’s he got in response to pleading with them for a place to stay. Taking a deep breath, he rapped on the last door on his floor. ‘Please be nice, please be nice, please be nice-‘ he thought.
(this was….. much longer than expected oops)

Keira slept through her alarm so ended up waking up an hour late. The sun was beginning to set which meant she was due to start work in half an hour. She threw back her covers and ran into her bathroom for a very quick shower. 'I can't be late again…' she thought, getting dressed in her neatly ironed uniform. The skirt had gotten a bit shorter since she had last worn it so she had to wear a pair of black tights with it, and she would have to until she managed to get a new skirt. She didn't have the time to apply a large amount of makeup and so had to make do with simple mascara and a soft pink lip-gloss.
Just as she pulled on her shoes and jacket, and had picked up her small shoulder bag, a knock came to the door.
"Who on earth could this be?" she mumbled, scooping her hair up into a messy bun. With a yawn she carefully opened the door, only to find her neighbor - Alec she thinks his name was? - with a rather defeated expression. "Is everything alright?" she knew she didn't have the time to be dealing with him, but she couldn't just ignore him.

Alec’s attention snapped to the girl in the doorway once he heard the door open. He gave a small, sheepish smile to her before beginning to speak. Oh, she was pretty. How had he not noticed her before? How he wished he didn’t look like a mess in the current moment. He snapped himself out of those thoughts and brought himself back to the situation at hand.

“Hi! So, uh, not really. My pipes broke in my apartment. Like, really bad. And I need a place to stay, just for a night or two. I’m kinda desperate at this point,” Alec rambled. If his hands were free, he would have been gesturing wildly. Then, he realized she was getting ready to leave. Damn.

Keira closed her eyes and quietly sighed, just what she needed. She was late for work by this point but she couldn't just turn him down. If he said he was desperate it meant he had tried everyone else on the floor. Selfish idiots. She stepped aside to let him in. "You have two options, stay here and make yourself at home until I come home from work, or you can drop off your things here and come with me to work so you're not alone in a random person's flat."
She was mainly giving him the option because she didn't exactly want a random person she had barely ever seen before just snooping around her flat while she wasn't there. And what if he ate her last tub of ice cream? She wasn't prepared to take that risk, Ben and Jerry's was everything to her after a long night at work.

Alec tried to keep his smile as she sighed. He was certainly struggling to keep his hopes as high as they normally were after the past twenty minutes he had had. His grip tightened on his belongings.

His bright smile returned, however when she let him in. Thank God. Thank this woman. And so he did. “Thank you so much, uh… What’s your name again?” He averted eye contact for a moment. “Oh, uh, the second option would probably be better. For both of us.”

Alec figured he might get too antsy and accidentally mess something in some part of the place. He really didn’t have many other options, so he really didn’t want to mess this arrangement up. Even if it meant going out in public looking like a mess.

"My name is Keira, it's nice to meet you even if under such awkward circumstances." Keira replied nervously. It wasn't every day that someone stayed over at her place, even family visits were a luxury she didn't really want to be able to afford.

Her phone buzzed. Who is it now? she spat in her mind, and was half inclined to decline the call, but when she saw it was from her boss she answered quickly.
"I know for a fact you're running late, but for once you're in luck. I had a bit of… technical difficulty, so we won't be opening for another hour."
A bright smile lit up Keira's face, for once her boss gave her news that made her happy. "I see. Also, while I have you, I have a friend who will be accompanying me."
"Don't let that distract you from your job, you're one of my best waitresses."
"Flattery will get you nowhere, I'll see you soon."

The smile faded as she ended the call. I rushed for NOTHING?! It didn't matter, that gave the two of them time to settle Alec into her apartment. She watched him glance aimlessly around her setup, almost afraid to touch anything. "You don't need to look so worried."
That being said, she was probably more nervous than him. Everything had its own place, if Alec was to, say, accidentally leave a pencil on the table, that would be enough to cause her anxiety. But it was something she was prepared to deal with, he had nowhere else to go after all. Kiera made her way over to the round armchair by the window.
"I don't need to be at work for another 50 minutes, so feel free to have a shower or get changed or something. Do whatever you want to make yourself feel more comfortable."
