"it'll come out of my pay," Katherine said, narrowing her eyes. He'll never do it.
"it'll come out of my pay," Katherine said, narrowing her eyes. He'll never do it.
“Bribery should be enough to keep ya’ going, as much as I hate it,” He said. He rolled up his sleeves and climbed over the fence. Mud squelched beneath his boots.
Katherine stepped back. "Okay, wait. I didn't-" She shook her head. "You're not worth my job."
She paused. "I'll give it to you though. You're it like the rest of 'em."
(Brb)
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” He asked, raising his eyebrows.
Katherine sighed, dropping her arms. She'd never been good at compliments. "Which part?"
(Well, I may or may not have gotten distracted by my cats . . .)
“All of it?” Darien asked more than stated.
Katherine put her head in her hands, groaning. "I meant, that first of all, I cannot lose this job. And second of all, you don't seem like a typical gentry member. That's it, that's all.
“We have a- Wait. Yeah we do,” He muttered to himself. “So does everyone think all the nobles are stuck up?”
Katherine thought about it for a long, arduous time."The answer to that would be… Yes. Yes they do."
“Well that’s just absolutely fantastically splendid,” He said sarcastically. “I do have another question, if you do not wish to answer that is fine, but, what is your pay? I have not been properly educated on this topic,”
Katherine debated, but decided to answer directly. What harm would it do? "I get two pennies for 9 hours of work."
He sighed. Two pennies for 9 hours of work! “This world needs to work on equality, and get rid of hierarchy,” He said without thinking.
Katherine shrugged. "Good luck with that." She turned back to her job and started shoveling the manure into a small wagon.
“Gee, thanks so much,” It will happen one day, I’m sure of it . . .
Katherine stopped and looked over at him. "It seems to me you have a very high opinion of the world."
(Oof, they still don’t know each other’s names)
“Is there a problem with that? Am I not allowed to have an opinion of the world?” He asked.
(ahaha whoops)
Katherine shrugged. "Naivete can either be a good thing or not."
“Good point, I suppose I will just need to explore as much as possible,”
Katherine laughed, then hurriedly stopped herself. Now wasn't the time. "You know what? I didn't catch your name," she noted, setting off into the fields to fertilise.
