In the year 3009 everything is perfect. There's no poverty and very little crime. Everyone gets assigned jobs based on what they like so everyone is happy! This realization and change in life were set into place because of world war 3 which was when almost every country turned on American for not wanting to do anything about climate change. After the world grew hot and a lot of areas were unlivable instead of saying they were wrong and joining in on the fight to help save humanity they isolated themselves. shut out the rest of the world and created a new society with the limited amount of people they had left. Of course for this society to work everyone has to have a use. there are people out there that the government deems 'useless' such as artists, writer, musicians, and many more. Also, anyone that couldn't naturally reproduce such as ace and gay people. The government couldn't figure out what to do with these people but then they realized that there were so many jobs that people didn't want like cashiers and factory workers. They gave the artistic people those jobs but then machines could do some of those more efficiently and it seemed wasteful to have to pay that many useless people so they created waits. They are slaves but no one knows that since slavery isn't mentioned in any history book or documentary. neither is the majority of ww2 and any story on ww3 is full of lies.
These waits are chosen using the 'retreat' every 13 year old has to go on during their birthday month. this retreat is what decides what you'll be for the rest of your life. After the retreat, all the students return home and now study whatever career that was chosen for them. well, all except the few that were 'chosen' everyone thinks that being chosen is a good thing. It's because you're smart and are going to go off and do great things. In actuality, they go and train to be waits.
You are a teenage girl between the ages of 15-17 your family just got a waitress for the first time. You somehow didn't become a waitress because of reasons. (In my story her mom was apart of the rebellion and teachers her to hide that she is gay and like art and stuff but you can do whatever) You can be apart of the rebellion or start off completely supporting the government that all depends on you but one thing for sure is you didn't expect to fall in love with a waitress.

Appearance: short choppy brown hair that is kept up in a uniformed bun. Green eyes and pale skin from lack of sunlight. Her uniform is a grey shirt, shorts, and sneaker. A small scar on her forehead but other than that no physical imperfections. Like all waits, she has a screen built into her arm. This is where she has her ID, Can be tracked, and can get messages from her employers.
Backstory: At thirteen like everyone else she went on the "retreat" there she was 'chosen' and sent to be trained as a waitress. At the school, she kept her head low but secretly helped with the rebellion. They vandalized areas of the school and attempted to contact outside sources. She stayed there for three years and has finally been seen fit to be assigned an employer. Before all this, she lived with her twin brother and parents. she was an outcast because she liked to draw so she was so happy to be chosen.
Personality: Used to be very disobedient. She didn't like listening to rules but the school broke her. She listens to others as quickly as possible terrified of punishment. She still has the need to fight and wants to escape to Canada, something that is only a story to waits. With people, she can trust she is happy and very talkative. She can go on for hours about pretty much anything.
