Monique checked her appearance in the bathroom mirror once more before heading with her mother and father to the Hub for the Choosing Ceremony. She was dressed in a tight royal blue dress that made her fiery hair stand out brightly against the drab gray streets. She had her hair slicked back and pulled into a tight bun, mimicking the strict look of her mentor and leader, Jeanine Matthews. She knew what her choice was, she'd always known. And her Aptitude Test results confirmed it: Erudite.

Liam followed his mother, looking at his feet. He knew which faction he was going to choose, and he had told his parents. They hadn't talked to him since. He made his way to the Candor section, sitting down and letting out a breath as he waited

Jeanine was the representative speaking this year, and Monique paid attention to every word that she said. Finally, the names were chosen.
Jeanine looked off her tablet. "Liam Vega," she read clearly.

Liam stood and walked up, shaking. He let out a breath, then sliced his hands and chose Erudite, avoiding his parents eyes

"Monique Veda," Jeanine read, looking at Erudite expectantly. Monique stood up and walked to the bowls confidently. She cut her palm and let her blood drip quickly into the Erudite water. She walked back, Jeanine watching her closely, and stood next to the boy who'd transferred from Candor. "Hello," she said shortly.

Liam looked over, "Hello" he said curtly, "I'm Liam"

"Monique," she replied. She looked back at the ceremony, back at Jeanine. Every so often, Jeanine would glance her way, a proud glint in her eyes. "Isn't Jeanine wonderful?" she asked quietly. "She is willing to do so much for advancement in the city."

Liam shrugged, "Yeah, I guess." He said, indifferent really. He just wanted a simple life. Nothing too complicated or involved in politics

When the ceremony was over, Monique walked smartly to the exit and got in the elevator with Jeanine and several other Erudites.
