Markus huffed a harsh sigh as he unlocked his gym locker, setting his glasses just inside as he pulled off the too-large hoodie he always wore in gym. Time to go from too big to too small. He thought wryly, digging around for his shirt. He needed new clothes, but Elise wasn't too fond of having to buy anything for the kids she fostered unless they desperately needed something. So he was stuck with clothes that didn't fit, until his paycheck came in.
Nikolas walked over to his locker with a fierce scowl and a foreboding prowl to his gait. He needed to hit something, and gym didn't relieve any of the stress and shitstorm of emotions swirling in his silver eyes. People pissed him off, and school was just full of idiots just ready to light his fuse. He spotted the nerd and narrowed his eyes, fingers lingering at the hem of his fitted tank top. His scarred wrists were covered by 'decorative' bandages, so he wasn't worried about the nerd finding out about them as he stalked over to him, steps heavy and unforgiving in their clear portrayal of his bad mood.
Times like these made Markus regret loitering around and waiting to leave. The empty lockerroom made Nikolas's steps even louder, and Markus's shoulders tensed despite his best attempt to keep them somewhat relaxed. Keep it to just a couple shoves this time, please. He sent up the prayer as quick as he could, turning slightly as he slipped his glasses back on. Maybe keeping them off would have been best, but he liked to be able to see who was beating him up. "Jeez, who the fuck pissed in your shoes."
Nikolas wasn't in the mood. He grabbed at Markus's throat and roughly pinned him against the nearby locker, leaning over him despite being an inch or so shorter than the nerd. He didn't care. He let his mere presence do the work for him as he narrowed his eyes even more and let his hold tighten just a bit—not enough to choke, but enough to prove that he wasn't in the mood for backtalking. "None of your fucking business, nerd. Now, are you going to be a good boy and make this relatively painless, or do I have to beat you into obedience?" he said lowly, a hint of an unamused growl to his rich voice.
Markus didn't meet Nikolas's eyes, but he did sneer. He was used to the violence, both from Nikolas and previous foster parents, but that just made him all the more angry. Even if he couldn't fight back, he still would try. "It's kinda my business if you're threatening me, ain' it?" He drawled, Southern accent thick with the mix of anger and slight fear. "We all know the answer t' that, Niky. And it ain' the former option."
Nikolas's eyes flickered with some undetectable emotion, and then…nothingness. His face went completely blank. First, Tess was just kicked from the system and was now at his place, homeless and confused, and now this fucktard just reminded him of his dead sister. Just great. He yanked Markus away from the locker, letting go of his throat, only to shove him into the other row of lockers and take a swing at the boy's jaw. He had switched modes, now no longer in control of his body. He felt a flicker of guilt at beating this kid up, but it was soon gone, just a whisper in the back of his mind, closed off from his thoughts.
Even as the fist connected with his jaw, Markus couldn't bring himself to feel sorry. He knew Nikolas didn't like the nicknames, and was well aware he was provoking the other boy, but in his defense, he had been the one pinned against the lockers first. Spitting up the blood that had arose as he'd bit his cheek on accident, he attempted to right himself, slightly disoriented from being thrown into the lockers. "Oh, did I say somethin' wrong?"
Nikolas didn't say anything, which was never a good sign. He latched onto Markus's hair and pushed him down to the floor, yanking his head back so he was looking up at Nikolas, whos knuckles clanged against the locker behind the boy. His other hand came back to throw some more punches, but he hesitated for a bit, eyes flickering. He just…couldn't, for some reason. A muscle in his cheek feathered as he clenched his jaw, and the silver in his eyes darkened to a stormy grey.
Even so very obviously at a disadvantage, Markus showed no fear, lips pulling back in a grin to reveal bloodstained teeth. Fully prepared to take another hit, and maybe even offer one of his own, he was surprised to find Nikolas….had stopped. And then the glow caught his eyes. First a soft glow, the light emanating from Nikolas's chest grew stronger and brighter, and it took a moment for Markus to realize that his own chest was glowing in return. That meant-"Oh fuck no."
Nikolas's eyes narrowed as he let go, instead running his fingers through his black hair—the dye had wore off before school started and he had yet to put the silver back in—and turning away from the bloody and glowing boy. Glowing. This can't be happening. They couldn't be. Nikolas didn't say anything still as he stormed over to his locker, grabbed his stuff, and slammed it closed with a violent clang, then a loud bang echoed through the locker room. "Fuck," he hissed, sucking at his split knuckles.
