“Yeah, yeah,” Leon replied, waving her off. “You are pretty great.”
She took a sip of the tea hesitantly, flinching when it burned her tongue. It earned a small curse under her breath before she started blowing on it.
“And good lord, I don’t know what I’d do it I just went back to keep getting roommate after roommate. With all the rumors of a haunted apartment, I’m surprised you moved in in the first place.”
Lee glanced over to Evelyn, perching her elbow on the other woman’s shoulder. “Y’know how terrified I was when you moved in and I figured out I actually liked you?”
"Hey we're pretty similar missy, not too surprised. But I get it. I dunno man. Guess life just likes me. Also I have a thing for ghosts. My moms basement is haunted by a poltergeist. He's cool. We talk a lot and so he doesn't throw shit at me. Nice trade off when doing laundry over there ya know?" She shrugged. "I ain't afraid of no ghosts." She said with a laugh.
“Yeah, me either, really. Used to have this one ghost I named Bluetooth ‘cuz he always seemed to mess with my music and speakers. Dude even switched off Foreigner,” Leon muttered, shaking her head and clicking her tongue. “That’s… borderline illegal. You don’t turn off Foreigner.”
She shrugged, letting out another sigh as she turned her attention back to the TV. “I’m actually surprised I don’t have more ghosts following me around. Assuming I’m the one who killed them, they probably have some sort of unfinished business.”
"Ew Foreigner. You know me I'm not a huge fan." She shook her head. "I'd turn them off for some Blondie. And I agree, but I think it's because they don't know that it's you. It's not like you're stabbing them, just an accident happens within a few days at the most after you interact. So. Lucky duck. We aren't haunted even more." She shrugged and sipped her tea.
“Might as well stab ‘em,” Leon muttered, a sigh permeating her words. “Lord knows it’s my fault. I should just carry around a sword.”
She gestured to her bedroom, where she absolutely kept a faux short sword under her bed.
“Like, wouldn’t it be so much easier? Just walk up, ‘hey, how you doing?’ Slice. Saves me the paranoia.”
Lee then glanced back over to her, shaking her head. “But then that leaves the paranoia that maybe I actually killed someone that could be like you. Hell, I need myself a house of cursed people like you so I can feel normal again.”
"Hey hey I'm not cursed you are shortie." She stuck her tongue out and shrugged. "Besides if you murder them then you'll get sent to prison and then everyone will die and things will get worse from there."
“I mean, you’re cursed enough to live with me,” Leon said, shaking her head. “That’s hell enough. And are you positive things can get worse?”
She then turned her whole body to face Ev, eyes looking so dully tired.
“Y’know, prison might be a nice change,” she hummed, raising an eyebrow. “Not like it would matter. My bunkmate, if it was anyone else besides you, would die within the first couple days. I’m willing to bet money on that.”
"Noooo you can't leave me!" She proclaimed, throwing her arms around Leon and hugging her. "I'd miss your gorgeous face too much! And then I'd have to find a room mate cooler than you, and well I'd have better luck finding bigfoot." She gave a pout as she glared at Leon.
“Then you’re either going to prison with me, or we’re going to go on one of those stereotypical hero quests to find out what’s happening,” Leon muttered, only fake-annoyed with Ev’s borderline whimpers. While Lee actually enjoyed the contact, she acted like she simply just tolerated it.
“Or…,” she said, eyebrows raised. “Or hey, we go look for bigfoot. Not sure how that will help, but you got my mind on it and cryptid hunting just sounds sick as hell.”
"Nope I chose overly done hero quest to wonder why YOU are cursed and killing everyone, and why I'm not friggin dead yet. And then we find big foot if we have the time. And if we live through the hero journey. Deal?" She smiled as she let go of Leon and grabbed her tea, taking a big sip since it now had cooled down more.
“Alright, alright, deal,” Lee replied, nodding along. “But I’m not gonna let you forget that bigfoot promise, aight? WHEN we survive, I’m taking that.. to your grave, I guess.”
When Ev leaned away, Leon followed, propping her elbow up on one of Ev’s shoulders. Of course, she wasn’t much shorter, but it was still fun to tease whenever she could.
“And I don’t even know how to start a typical hero journey. In every show, adventure finds them. Do I just like.. walk up to a protagonist and ask them for prophecy recommendations?”
"You're the protagonist. What we gotta do is research. Find whatever we can on whatever the fuck your curse is. And go from there. Maybe do a bit of memory searching." She pissed Leo off of her with a pout. "Stop that! If you're gonna put your arms on me at least snuggle me."
“That was the most vaguely inspiring thing you’ve ever said to me,” Leon replied. “But alright. I’ll do some memory searching. See if I can’t figure out anything from my dad.”
That was about the only other person who could stay alive with her— besides Ev, of course. But he never seemed to acknowledge that the curse was even there in the first place.
“And fine, maybe I will,” she muttered, kicking her feet up on the couch and laying across Ev’s lap. “Thanks for the invitation.”
"I said cuddle not make me a pillow you useless lesbian." She huffed and patted Leon's head, shaking her head. "But whatever. Your dad is sort of an ass, wish we didn't have to talk to him."
“Woah, woah, woah,” Leon yipped, shooing Ev’s hand away. “Shut up, doofus. I love my dad. But— yeah, he can kinda suck sometimes. Guess we gotta just deal with it.”
She shifted her attention from the TV back up to Ev, narrowing her eyes. “And hush. You know I have no clue how to cuddle people. I normally leave that to you.”
"Make me shut up." She huffed and pulled Leon into her lap, putting her head into the crook of her neck, and snuggled in. She took a few breaths and booped Leon. "Quit being so mean. Anyways. When are we gonna see your dad?"
“Dude, if I could, I would,” she muttered absently, letting herself be scooped up like some kind of stuffed animal.
“And I dunno, I’ll give him a call when I’m not being held captive by a madwoman.”
Lee lifted a hand, patting Evelyn’s head softly. “Also, I’m not mean. This is simply just how I show affection. You know I love your wonderful self.”
"Love me huh? Did my stupid charms make your heart fall for me or something?" She teased, wrapping her arms a bit tighter around her waist. "And you AREN'T being held captive. You accepted the invitation so you're getting cuddled properly."
“Always, dude. I’m always falling for you,” she muttered, a sarcastic tinge to her words. But.. maybe it wasn’t all sarcasm.
In truth, Leon didn’t really know what Ev was to her. They joked like this so often, it felt so weird to Leon to say she wasn’t in a relationship. But, at the same time, the two had never had a declaration of any kind of affection between them.
Evelyn laughed and shook her head. "Love ya too you dork." There friendship was….weird. They acted more as lovers then as friends, with Evelyn stealing her shirts and hugs all the time but one never really asked the other out so they just stayed in relationship limbo. Not that Evelyn was complaining. If it happened it happened and if it didn't it didn't.
“Glad to hear it. To many people, I’m probably so…. insufferable. Y’know?” she sighed, words filled with exasperated breath. “Not to get too self-deprecating, but I kinda suck sometimes. I mean, curse and all.”
Lee continued to fiddle with the dried paint on her pants, eyes narrowed like she was thinking just a little too hard. She hated showing it, for sure, but things like, well, killing people really got to her.
"I know I know. But hey you get to spend forever with me!" She said with a smile. "That's gotta make things at least a bit better? Right?" She looked at Lee with wide eyes. "That's gotta mean something good. I know death and the likes following you like a dog isn't the best thing and definitely takes a toll on your pretty head but, there may be hope. You can't loose hope."
“If death was a dog, I’d be having a much better time. Might even play fetch with it,” she grumbled, raising an eyebrow. “Maybe then I could put it on a leash or something. I mean, I don’t know the Grim Reaper’s preferences, but I’d probably do it to him, too. The dude’s going insane around me.”
Leon let out a stiff smile, glancing down to Ev. “Ok, question. Do you think Death, whatever embodiment they may be, is like, in love with me? That’s why they keep following me around, too see me? That’d be simultaneously horrifying, terrible, and rad as hell.”
