Alex laid in his bed, staring at the ceiling. A laptop, some folders, and scattered paper surrounded him. He let out a sigh.
“I’d recommend sitting with them, but don’t let them talk shit about witches or Cas,” Rain said from the other side of the room, in the process of removing their makeup. “They should know better than that at this point.”
“Of course.” He kept staring at the ceiling. He could definitely defend Cas’s honor; he’d sing his praises to high heaven, if he believed in heaven. Oh, Cas… He missed him so much already. Their date couldn’t come any sooner. Where would they go? What would they do? Ah, it didn’t matter. As long as he was with his pequeno brujo…
Snapping fingers took him out of his thoughts. “Do your homework,” Rain said sternly. Alex pouted at her, but sat up and grabbed his laptop.
instead of sleeping and resting up for the next day as he had promised, Cas spent the next hour fixing up the little care basket he had made for Alex and worrying himself half to death. He prayed the reverse love potion would work, or at the very least lessen the effects so that Alex could focus on what was important rather than solely his infatuation. Cas paused from arranging the tinsel strings he had buried up from his stash of trinkets and keepsakes. As much as Cas wanted all this to be real and true, he couldn't help but be reminded that all this wouldn't have happened without the love potion. Maybe they would have confessed, and maybe they'd be dating months down the line, maybe Cas would have been brave enough and come out of his shell to have told Alex his feelings first, or maybe, and most likely, none of this would have ever happened without a little push from some magic. It took essentially tricking Alex into drinking a love potion for Cas to be comfortable enough to admit his feelings for the vampire had had a crush on for ages, something everyone seemed to have noticed except to the person whom it mattered most to.
He set aside the basket, promising himself first thing in the morning that he'd finish sprucing it up before the date. And the first thing he'd do on the date was give Alex the potion. What happened afterward would simply have to play out, but at least the emotions, whether good or bad, wouldn't have the effects of a potion. All he knew was that he loved Alex. He wanted to be with him even after the potion to prove as much. He only hoped that Alex would give him another chance.
Cas made his way to bed near midnight, barely letting himself sink in before he was overtaken by blissful sleep.
Only to be awoken by his phone going off across the room a few minutes later. He groggily got up and stumbled over to find his glasses and phone by his desk.
"Rise and shine Cas! we gotta prepare for today!" read the text from Jeckle. Cas sometimes wondered if his friend was somehow a mutant of the vampire species, seeing as he was always so energetic in the early hours of the morning.
(I’m so sorry I’m going to try and get something up today)
(no worries at all, ngl I sorta forgot about this😅 take your time if you're still up for this rp at all)
Alex managed to complete one assignment and start an essay, which he considered an accomplishment. Eventually it became too late to work, even for a vampire, at which point he started getting ready for bed, thinking of tomorrow and Cas all the while. Rain patiently listened to him ramble about his dearest love from her bed before soon dozing off. And eventually, even Alex had to stop as sleep overtook him.
If Jeckle ever texted Rain or Alex, they never saw it. They both slept into the later hours of the morning, like they usually did. When she woke, Rain was up and at ‘em, yawning as they went through their normal routine. Alex had to lay in bed and let his brain catch up with his body before he could start his day.
"You're positive you're not a vampire?" Jeckle asked as he settled into the seat beside Cas who was resting his head on his arm and doodle in his notebook while eating lunch. "M'not a vampire, just tired." He replied, forcing himself to pick his head up and take a few bites of his left over breakfast from this morning
Jeckle narrowed his eyes and frowned "You did go to sleep after we left the store, right?"
Cas kept his gave on the pages of the notebook, suddenly now really interested in finishing his little doodle. "mhm, I just had to tidy up a few things…." he muttered quickly, flinching away as Jeckle lightly smacked him. "Cas! I told you to sleep! After all the magic you used, and how long we stayed up, you stayed up longer when you know you have morning classes" He chided, shaking his head and angrily biting into his sandwich.
"I know! But I wanted to ensure everything is perfect, especially if this is the last time we spend together." Cas put his face in his hands, having abandoned his breakfast and his sketch. "After he takes the potion and when it works, I'll be the last person he'll want to be around. And even if we do stay friends somehow, it won't be the same. I'll always be the witch who gave him a love potion and lead him on for a month (gonna pretend it's been longer than a week :3)."
Jeckle relaxed slightly and shook his head "How many times do we all have to say it, it's not your fault. I was the one who asked you to make the damn thing and then gave it to Alex. You just happened to be there at the right time. I don't think you led him on either. You like him, right? You both feel the same even without the potion. I don't see why he wouldn't want to be with you afterward." Jeckle reasoned, gently nudging Cas's shoulder in encouragement. "Maybe you should ask him what he thinks about all this instead of lamenting to me about it.
(Heyyyy. Also uh, doesn’t the potion last for a few weeks? So the potion’s effects would already be fading by now)
(hi! It technically was for a week in the original plot but I think we extended it for at least a month to make it a bit more realistic when they fell in love)
(Okay that’s fine, I guess I forgot about that)
(no worries, I don't think I ever said it changed at any point, sorry about that)
(Sorry I will try respond soon, just thought I’d ask where Cas and Jeckle are?)
(no worries at all respond when you can. They're just hanging out in a dining hall in between classes)
Soon Alex and Rain were both ready and out the door, which was becoming the usual at the point because Alex was quickly motivated into doing things if seeing Cas was the reward. Once they entered the dining hall, Alex was already scanning the crowds for his love. Rain tried to keep it subtle, but they were also looking for Jeckle. Once Cas was spotted, Alex made beeline for him. Rain followed behind.
“Pequeño brujo!” He smiled and wrapped Cas in a hug. Rain came, sat beside Jeckle, and quietly took his hand.
(Sorry it’s short)
(no worries!)
Cas glance up and managed to sit up in time to catch Alex in a hug. "Hi, mi querido" Cas couldn't help but lean into the embrace, finding it unbelievably comfortable after a long night with barely any sleep.
He peeked up and gave a small wave to Rain, watching as Jeckle broke out into a smile and lacing their hands together. He caught Cas watching and nodded towards the basket beside Cas. The witch sighed and reluctantly pulled back from the high. "I actually have something for you. I was going to give it to you later at the cafe but I figured now would be best before the date." He put the basket between them, watching Alex carefully. "You can go back to normal. And in case you feel sick or something after there's a few things in there that should help." He explained pointing out each of the items. "And of course if you need anything else feel free to come by the store." Cas' gaze flickered between the basket and Alex, nervous he had somehow made things worse.
From across the table, Rain waved back and smiled. Alex squeezed Cas a little before letting go. He watched him wide eyes, quite unable to look away from the witch until the basket was brought between them.
He broke out into a huge smile. “So, this is the reversal potion? Ay dios mío lindo, you did it!” He couldn’t help but hug Cas again. “You’re the best witch, I swear.” He kissed his cheek.
When he pulled away, he tried to examine the contents of the basket more closely. “So, do I just need to drink this whole thing? Should I do it now or after the date? I’m sure it’ll be fine either way, right?”
He smiled at Cas. No matter what, Alex knew he loved him. He remembered how he liked him before he drank the love potion, he knew how he felt about him when he was a wolf. Nothing was going to change that. Especially now.
Cas let out a relieved laugh as he briefly hugged Alex back "I don't know about the best witch but thank you amore." he nodded "Yep. It won't be an immediate change, it'll probably take a few days to fully work." He explained, Alex's genuine excitement relaxing Cas ever so slightly. Maybe it wouldn't be all bad when Alex went back to normal. "whenever you'd like. I'd suggest taking it with food just in case you have any side effects, we wouldn't want you passing out on an empty stomach." He advised, watching as Alex looked over the contents of the basket. He would make an effort to be around Alex more, whether that was as a friend or still as his boyfriend, Cas wouldn't stop loving him.
“Okay, well we were going to get something here anyway.” He glanced back at Rain, who nodded and got up to get both of them sustenance. He looked back at Cas. “Might as well take it now.”
After a few minutes, Rain came back with two large cups filled with a deep red liquid. She handed one (along with a straw) to Alex, then sat back down with Jeckle. Alex opened the straw and stuck it inside the cup, then started sipping. The liquid quickly began disappearing— he hadn’t realized how hungry he was.
“Oh nice, it’s ox.” He looked over at Rain. “What did you get?”
“They were out of sheep so I just got the same as you,” They shrugged, sipping their cup as well.
After he had gotten halfway through the cup, he set it down and grabbed the potion from the basket. He stared at it, then looked at Cas. “Your craft is so amazing. And powerful.” He just looked at him with an easy smile and loving eyes, faintly tinted with a pink glow. He tried not to get distracted by his lover. Really, he was excited, mainly because he knew Cas wanted him to drink the potion and slightly because he had to break the spell he was under for all this time.
“Hope it doesn’t taste like medicine or something…” he looked back at the bottle, brought it to his lips, and drank.
Cas finished up his breakfast as the vampires around him got blood. He wasn't as squeamish around blood as he used to be in his first year of college. He had to use it sometimes at his shop and as a business who treated all creatures and provided any remedy, blood was something he quickly got over as he often had a fresh supply of it at the ready in case and students needed it. So far, it mostly consisted of Jeckle coming in starving and needing a pick-me-up before he passed out but Cas still worked through his discomfort to bring any of his potential clients the best care he could, regardless of whether they were a witch or vampire.
Cas bashfully glanced down at his hands and shook his head dismissively. "It was nothing, really" At that jeckle rolled his eyes and huffed a laugh. "Right, I guess we're going to ignore the amount of magic it takes a witch to make a love potion, and then double that for a reverse love potion. Cas for once take a compliment for your hard work, especially if it's from your boyfriend."
Cas was about to protest that Aex technically wasn't his boyfriend, but even the thought made him feel hopeless. Jeckle arched an eyebrow in challenge, giving a cocky grin.
Cas huffed a sigh but turned back to Alex with a small smile, pecking his cheek. "Thank you amore. I appreciate the praise. If I made it right, it should just taste like peaches." He reassured, falling silent as he watched Alex drink the potion. He held his breath as he searched his vampire's features for any sign of the potion taking effect.
Alex closed his eyes. Indeed, the potion carried a sweet, fruity flavor. Alex briefly thought back to the fizzy drink he was given a month ago. He gulped it down, then opened his eyes as sparks flashed across his vision— the fireworks again. He blinked rapidly, his eyes glowing a deep red. “Huh…”
He looked over to Cas. He still seemed larger than life to Alex, in a way. He could see all the lovely details in his skin, eyes, hair. But something was different, as if he could sense the rose-colored glasses he was seeing him through. A soft smile grew on his face.
“I think it worked…” he rubbed the back of his neck, then pulled Cas into another hug. “Gracias, querido.”
For a split moment, Cas thought he had somehow messed up when he saw Alex's eyes shimmer a familiar red. That all of the effort and care he put into making the reverse potion had been for nothing. His brows turned up in anguished concern as he continued to search Alex's expression, any sign that he was back to normal, or at the very least no longer love-struck.
"Huh good, or huh bad?" Jeckle asked, breaking his silence from across the table from the pair as he carefully watched the vampire consume the potion.
Cas had taken Alex's free hand in his, squeezing them gently for both their comfort as he waited for the potion to take its effect, or at worst, to fail.
"Alex?" he asked in barely a whisper as he was scrutinized by Alex. Cas could only do the same. He was still Alex. The vampire, up until recently, was positive and didn't know Cas existed much less had any feelings toward. The vampire Cas could never quite wrap his mind around but still wanted to try. The vampire Cas couldn't help but fall in love with.
Cas refocused as Alex spoke, his expression turning into surprise and then immediate relief as he burried his face against Alex's sweater "Of course, tesoro. There wasn't any way I wasn't going to leave you like this." He murmured, breaking away far enough to press a gentle kiss to Alex's brow. "It might still take a few days for you to feel entirely normal but so far it seems to be working alright." he assessed, searching Alex's eyes for another moment to see if he could find any more of that red glimmer from before. There was still a slight sheen to Alex's eyes but now less prominent than a few moments ago.
“I don’t know…” he mumbled to Jeckle in reply. It seemed like the reversal potion’s effects mirrored the initial one, even tasting similar. Alex was not a witch, but he figured that perhaps the feeling that his eyes had been hit with a strong light was a sort of physical signal that the potion was taking effect, and so reversing it lead to the same sensation as a sign those effects were fading.
He smiled more when Cas squeezed his hand. He’d had his eye on the little witch for so long, he wondered if even once the potion took full effect, he’d still be a little love struck for him. As he embraced him, he tugged him close and pet his hand.
“Well yeah, I just… I know you worked hard to make it.” He blushed a little and kissed Cas’s cheek. His eyes were indeed shining, though it was more from emotion, a sense of gratitude.
Cas rested his head against Alex's shoulder, enjoying their embrace for as long as he was allowed. "Of course, querido. That's sorta my shtick as a witch. I have to take care of my clients. That includes you, querido vampiro." He blinked in surprise at the kiss, burying his face deeper into the sweater to hide the blush that rose on his cheek, mostly from a snickering Jeckle.
"See Cas? You have nothing to worry about. He's still head over heels for you without the love potion. The only difference now is that now maybe you'll actually talk about your feelings towards each other instead of hiding them from each other."
Cas managed a glare once he peeked out from his hiding place and looked between Jeckle and Raine. "You first."
Rain watched Alex drink the potion in silence, only letting out a relieved sigh when he and Cas embraced. She looked down, heart growing heavy with guilt. They didn’t want to say anything, but they missed the old Alex. It’s been ages since they had really hung out, or done anything together. But she knew she could only blame herself for the way she felt, they went along with Jeckle’s plan after all. So she kept quiet. There was no point. They planned to apologize once Alex was himself again. It wasn’t much, but she didn’t know what else to do. Maybe help him with his homework; God knows how his grades have suffered since this whole thing started.
Then she blinked, their gaze focusing on Cas. Somehow, soft laugher left her mouth. They looked at Jeckle, then back at Cas. “I don’t know about you, but I’m not hiding any feelings.” She sipped her cup of blood.
Alex turned to the other vampires, still hugging Cas. “Oh?” He smiled at Rain. He sipped his cup as well.
Jeckle choked on air, his face flushed the deepest shade of red Cas had seen the vampire get.
"No, of course I'm not hiding anything." He managed, his voice an octave a bit too high. "I just haven't said anything because it's assumed I obviously..uhm…have feelings? Yeah." He cleared his throat, his mouth going dry from the struggle.
"But this isn't about me, or us, if there even is that, or even if there is" he argued, pointing between Cas and Alex, sobering slightly from his embarrassment. "Now that you're on the right track to being normal, I did want to apologies. I did before but you were still under the potion so again, I'm really sorry for giving that to you without letting you know. And Cas I'm sorry I had you make the potion in the first place. There are other ways I could have helped you two get together without needing to trick you both. I hope whatever relationship you two were considering isn't ruined because of me." He gave a tentative smile, shyly and guiltily leaned back in his chair.
