I nodded in understanding. An escape. “Its nice.” I looked around, taking in the atmosphere of the place. “Calm.” I added quietly.

"Mmhm…." I rubbed at my cheekbone with the heel of my hand, slipping around him to the back of the shop. "Your phone's this way."
I followed her silently, trying to take in my new surroundings. So this is where she spends her time…
When I reached the shelf against the far wall, I slipped my hand into the space behind it, fumbling around for a moment. But finally, my hands closed around a familiar rectangular object, which I withdrew and held out to Mercutio.
“My phone!” I snatched it our of her hands, frantically rubbing any dust off it with my sleeve, hugging the device close. I was practically shaking with relief, some of the tension slipping from my shoulders.
I stood back, letting my outstretched arm fall limply to my side. "There you go.."
“Thank you.” I looked at Marina, surprise at the swell of thankfulness forming in my chest. Without thinking, I stepped forward and pull her into a hug.
My body stiffened with shock. But I didn’t pull away or make any attempt to return the embrace, only stood perfectly still.
I released her quickly, backing off in alarm. “That never happened.” I looking away, clearing my throat and trying to regain some dignity.
I raised an eyebrow, but eventually nodded, ducking my head so that my hair obscured my face from view. “Yeah. Sure.”
(Awwwwwwwww)
I looked away, staring at the racks of records as a distraction from whatever I just did to embarrass myself. “Good.” I pocketed my phone, taking a deep breath.
“So….” I trailed off, having no idea what to say to him. “That needs to be charged before five…”
“Yeah um… I’ll— I should get to that.” I scuffed my feet on the ground. “Are you coming back with me?”
I raised my eyebrows. “Coming back where? To your house?”
“On the bus. Over by the school. I don’t want you knowing where I live.” I spat with forced vehemence. It didn’t sound as convincing as I’d hoped.
"I already know where you live, dumbass," I snorted, amused by his sudden motivation to act like an ass. "But sure, I'll come."
I glared at her. “You sound like a pig when you snort like that.” I snapped, striding towards the doors without another word.
“I guess that’s fair, considering the fact that you look like a pig all the time,” I shot back, following after.
I scowled, but kept walking. “You’re only saying that because you’re jealous.” I snarked, heading towards the bus stop.
“Just keep telling yourself that, Mercutio. Maybe I’ll acrually believe it, that way.” I had to admit that I was frustrated at how quickly the situation had escalated. Although it was strictly taboo…. it was admittedly nice, having him begin to warm up to me. Apparently, though, he was done with that now that he had his phone back…
I ignored her, waiting impatiently for the bus to arrive so I could get out of here. I shouldn’t have invited her back. That was my own mistake. I was exhausted and functioning on six hours of sleep from the past two days combined. Four two hours two nights ago and two hours last night. Combined with football practice yesterday and school today…
A bus came to a screeching stop in front of us after several arduous minutes of silence. I boarded first, instinctively tensing at the sound of Mercutio behind me.
I climbed onto the bus, pulling my phone out of my pocket and turning it over in my hands for comfort. I didn’t pay much attention to where I was walking, obediently following at Marina’s heels.
I stared myself at the back of the bus and released a huge sigh. Why had I just given back the only advantage I had over a Montague ally? Not even Mercutio’s tolerance had been gained from it…. which wasn’t something I should want in the first place.
