(No worries! I totally understand! I’m pretty busy, too.)
Sterling nodded and shut the door behind her before making his way around the vehicle. Once he was in, he typed Willow’s address into his phone.
“All right, we’re all set. You ready?” he asked as he buckled himself in.
"Yep!" Willow said, popping the p. With a click from her seat belt, she leaned back in the chair. What am I going to do about that car?
“I’m sure I could get someone to tow your car to the mechanic if you’d like,” Sterling said as he backed out, almost like he’d read her mind. “I know a guy.”
Willow's eyes light up. "Really? That'd be great, actually!" She beamed at him. Tow trucks are so expensive these days… she thought, sourly remembering the past times her car broke down.
“Cool! I’ll call as soon as I get you home. Sound good?” Sterling asked, glancing over at her with a smile before turning his attention back to the road.
"Yes! Thank you so much, Sterling." Willow sent him a dazzling smile. But her face soon contorted in confusion. How will I know it got picked up?
"Hey, can I have your phone number?" She soon turned red as a strawberry, and hastily tried to fix her mistake. "I-I mean, like, uh, to kn-know when my car is picked up! That's it!" Willow mentally facepalmed herself. Of course I gotta act awkward in front of the cool guy, nice going Willow.
Sterling grinned and chuckled a bit. He was aware of the effect he had on girl, even if he didn't notice all the stares he got in the halls.
"Of course. It's…" He rattled off his number to her, hoping she was writing it down or something.
Willow pulled out her phone and hastily wrote down the numbers while they were still fresh in her mind. She was absolutely rubbish at remembering certain things. "Uh, thanks," Willow could still feel her cheeks burning, and she stared at her hands instead of meeting his eyes.
“So, how were your classes today?” Sterling asked as he turned into a different street.
"Good, I guess. Yours?" Willow said, staring out the window as the town passed by.
“They were all right. Boring, as usual,” Sterling chuckled.
"Cheers to that," Willow giggled. A glance out the window, and she saw they were going down her road. She pointed at one of the rundown houses with chipped paint. "That's mine, right there."
“All right,” Sterling said as he pulled into the driveway. He parked the car and looked over at Willow with a smile. “I’ll let you know when they get your car, okay?”
"Okay," Willow said, and opened the car door. She debated in her head whether to invite him in or not. That was common courtesy, right?
She poked her head back in the car. "Hey, uh, do you wanna come inside? Like for a snack or something? For me to return the favor, I mean." Willow laughed to play off her nervousness.
Sterling gave her a half-grin, one that had almost gotten him into trouble numerous times. “That sounds nice. Thank you. Your parents wouldn’t mind?”
"Ah, they're not home." They never are. "But yeah, um, you're welcome." Willow closed the car door, and waited for Sterling.
“I suppose I will take you up on your offer for those snacks, then,” Sterling chuckled as his stomach grumbled. He stepped out of the car, stuffing his keys in his pocket, and followed Willow.
"Great! Follow me!" Willow led him up to her house and opened the door. "Make yourself at home!"
“You have a nice house,” Sterling said as he stepped inside, his hands shoved into his front pockets.
"Thanks," Willow walked into the kitchen, and started to look through the cabinets for snacks. Cheez-its, Pingles, Animal Crackers… She placed them on her counter, and began looking for sandwich materials. "What do you prefer?"
Sterling followed after her and looked over what she had taken out. “I’ll take some animal crackers. I can’t remember the last time I had those,” he chuckled.
"Since you were a kid, I'm guessing?" Willow grinned. "I'll take the Cheez-it's, then," She grabbed the boxes and gave the animal crackers to Sterling, and headed towards the couch.
"That's probably true," Sterling chuckled, taking the animal crackers and following Willow over. "It has definitely been a while."
Willow sat down, and patted the seat besides her. "Here have a seat," She stuck a hand in the box, and pulled out a handful of Cheez-its, sticking her tongue out as she did so.
Sterling smiled at the face she made as he sat beside her. She was pretty cute, he had to admit. Especially when made a goofy face like that.
