Alright. I shall get us started. Should they be friends beforehand or just be strangers who meet in the halls or are partnered up in class for something?

@Honeybee_

Sofia struggled to get her locker open, kicking it a few times with no success. Today wasn't the best day, they'd be starting a new project in the class she despised the most, Geography. It was a group project as well, which didn't make matters any better. She finally got her lock open with a sigh of relief as she checked her watch for the time. She wouldn't be late if she ran. She dropped off and picked up her binders and locked her locker, bolting to the class she had next, geography.

Malachi idly traced figure eights onto his desk quietly, nearly completely zoned out. Geography wasn't the best class in the world, but was better than what awaited him in the evening. The redhead nearly winced thinking about it. It brought his attention to the plain dark blue tee he currently wore, happy it covered each and every scar. He hoped to keep things that way. Covered and ignored. Sighing, the small boy glanced at the time seeing about a minute left. The one girl who sat a few desks over still wasn't there. Her friends would likely be bummed for not being able to pair up with her. Then again, Malachi wasn't the type to keep track of relationships in his classes.

Sofia gushed into the class with the ring of the bell, a smile sppearing on her face as the teacher called her name and she sat down at her seat. “Here” she mused, proud that she had made it in so little time.

Malachi felt a bit relieved that the girl hadn't been late, but dreaded the upcoming project. He was concerned that he would get forced to do most of the work simply because he was the quiet type and generally wasn't all too social. Nibbling at his lip, the boy hoped for a student who would at least be fairly polite.

Class began, she was quiet as usual and took notes when needed. It was now for the dreaded partnering. She hoped she'd get partnered with an equal, because she didn't know if she could handle doing all the work by herself once again.

With a sudden clap from the teacher's hands, some of the other students were nearly wiggling in their seats. A few gave each other glances from across the room, a universal sign that meant 'hey, let's partner up' that he was never given. Always too quiet he supposed.
"I know you all were hoping to pick your groups, but I've already chosen for you!" the teacher announced, turning to pin a piece of paper to the board. There were two columns, the two names side by side would be partners. There were plenty or groans as people stood to get their assigned groups. Malachi simply sat patiently so he had less of a chance of getting pushed back. After a minute, he stood and carefully made his way to the front, catching a few glances. Sofia…
He didn't quite know who that was seeing as he'd never talked much with girls.

@Honeybee_

Sofia glanced up at the board, catching her name next to Malachi's. She spotted him immediately, waving him over. "Hi" she spoke, looking up at him brightly.

@Painted-Iris group

Oh, the girl who was late today…
"Uh, hi," he greeted with a timid smile. Malachi felt a bit odd, seeing as he knew nothing of what she was like. She seemed to be kind at least. Biting the inside of his cheek, he hoped Sofia would be okay with less formalities and idle chatter. Sure, he didn't mind if the other wanted to chat, it was just the fact his mind was sometimes unsure how to respond. Or how to phrase it correctly outside of his own thoughts.

@Honeybee_

"So, should we just get working on the project?" she asked, sitting next to him idly. She didn't want to seem weird but she had had a crush on this boy for a year now, even though she hadn't ever talked to him before other than polite exchanges of a quick hello of a small smile in the hallways.

@Painted-Iris group

"That would be good, yes…" he trailed off shyly. Taking his pencil, Malachi tapped it lightly against his lips. There were several topics to choose from and he hadn't thought of which one he they would choose. Turning to ask Sofia, he already found her looking at him. "So… what were you thinking of choosing?" he asked, voice just loud enough to be heard along with the other groups already discussing.

@Honeybee_

"Well, since we have to pick a country, how about a dystopia type thing?" she asked, shifting in her seat when her caught her gazing at him.

@Painted-Iris group

"What do you mean?" he asked, confused. His head tilted lightly as he did so. Malachi had assumed it had to be a real country. Just about anywhere sounded good as he'd never been out of state before.

@Honeybee_

"Well, there's plenty of countries that seem so rich and wealthy in pictures of resorts and beaches and such, but their economy is not as good as it seems" she replied, shrugging slightly.

@Painted-Iris group

Malachi nodded, understanding. "Anything you had particularly in mind? Venezuela might be good, there's also the two Koreas, Japan, Hawaii, um… Cuba?" he started, trying to come up with ideas.

@Painted-Iris group

"Oh, yeah. We can do that," he responded, writing it down in the notebook in front of him. He seemed to be trying to avoid most conversation. Malachi felt unsure about Sofia in general. Sure, she was nice, but being paired with her made him feel a bit awkward.

@Honeybee_

(*Sofia)
"Alright" she replied, flatly. She didn't know how this was going to go, so she might have to do all the work after all.

(whoops)
Secretly, Malachi still worried that he'd be doing all the work. He had noticed in class how some girls liked to sneak on their phones or even just ignore their work simply because 'they felt like it. He never understood that excuse. Malachi began sketching out a few ideas for how they might put together each of their facts and photos into something relatively pleasing to the eye but also keeping on target. Having being used to doing things on his own, the male zoned out a tad as he worked.

She watched him idly as he worked, also searching on her phone for facts and the things that were put in the criteria that you had to find for the country you'd be doing. "What parish do you want to do? There's Kingston, Saint James, Saint Catherine…" she went on naming some that she could remember off the top of her head.

@Painted-Iris group

Not liking to make decisions, Malachi twiddled his thumbs, watching them as if they were the most interesting thing. "U-um whatever you want. I'm okay with whatever you pick," he said, stuttering a tad. Sometimes his words trembled, despite what he wanted them to do. He wasn't the bravest spirit. He took a quick breath, trying to focus. It wasn't like she was judging him, or even yelling at him to pick something already. "I've never really looked into Jamaica much, so I wouldn't know which is best," Malachi decided to add, words already sounding normal.
