“ you can help me by giving back the necklace my sister brought in.” he said
“ you can help me by giving back the necklace my sister brought in.” he said
Malcolm snorted,”First, I’ll need a name and proof of identification. Second, I’ll need you to knock down that tone of yours. If you want to be an ass, you can do that outside.”
The ID part wasn’t actually necessary, but since this was his store, and he was the only employee, no one could say anything if he decided to change the rules at a whim. And, it was also a very subtle way to alert his dear nanobots that somebody may be getting some rough treatment in a moment.
Maximus growled, pulling out his id and slamming it onto the counter “just give me the dan necklace.”
Malcolm didn’t budge. He picked up the ID, noticing the name, Maximus. He looked at the photo on the ID card, then looked at Maximus himself, comparing them. He didn’t need to, but he wasn’t going to cooperate easily until this Maximus asshole calmed down. He finally handed the man his ID, disdain in his eyes.
“Well, Maximus, since you clearly don’t understand how things work, let me explain. I have several necklaces I’m appraising, and they all take time. Also, I only give the pieces back to the person that brought it in. I’m no middle man, nor a messenger boy. So, since you’ve already broken one house rule, and are attempting to break a more legal rule, I suggest you either explain yourself right now, or get the fuck out of my store,”Malcolm calmly warned.
“Daya. A woman came in here earlier with a family loom. I want it back as I am the heir and the eldest “
Malcolm hummed,”Well, whether you’re the heir or not, I’m still going to need Daya here. And, that’s after I finish my work, of course. Trust me, the paperwork to interrupt the whole appraisal process is ten times fucking worse than just waiting two or three weeks for me to finish.”
Malcolm was outright lying about the amount of time it took for him to finish the appraisal. Fortunately for him, he was a very good liar.
“ what the fuck ever old man”
Malcolm snorted and straightened.
“I’m not as old as I look, you fucking dumbshit. Now, get the fuck out of my store and come back in three weeks. Then you get the necklace,”he stated.
Maximus rolled his eyes and stormed out
Malcolm watched him leave. He tapped his fingers on the counter, using the sound and rhythm to distract him from his rising anger. He became too impulsive when he was angry, and he couldn’t afford that right now. Not with everything in the basement.
(time skip?)
(Sure. When you thinking?)
(sheug)
(Hmm… how long were you wanting Daya to be in the hospital?)
(just a couple weeks)
(Alright. You want to do it then? Maybe she gets out and wants to immediately check on her necklace?)
(yeah, and I got grounded so probs won't be on for a bit)
(Alright, no worries)
Daya sighed as she got her release papers, walking out of the hospital as a normal person, for now, never to fight with her brother.. Sike
Malcolm had finished his repair and appraisal of Daya’s necklace a few days ago. He had only put the one nanobot-infested gem on there, but he didn’t need much. Though, he wasn’t sure who would be getting the necklace, considering how much Daya seemed to want to get the necklace away. But, it was whatever.
Meanwhile, he had made more progress on his other work. He now had a bigger bot programmed to specifically target Maximus if he came in again. It would only take a word to make the bot attack, and Malcolm didn’t care if he had to use it or not.
Daya walked into the shop, her body still bruised heavily “hey… Malcolm was it?”
Malcolm was checking the jewelry in the display cases when Daya walked in. He shut the display case and stood, noticing her bruises. However, he didn’t react, not even making an effort to act like he cared.
“Indeed. You are Daya, if memory serves. The one who brought in the elaborate necklace. I’ve finished my appraisal, and I even repaired it. But, I’m still a bit uncertain what you plan to do with it,”Malcolm replied, moving to stand at his usual spot at the counter.
“ I would like to just get rid of it, or hide it somewhere, don't really care..” she said
Malcolm hummed.
“If you don’t mind me asking, why are you so adamant about getting rid of it? And, I have encountered your brother, so I understand that part,”he asked.
“ because it causes nothing but trouble for me.”
