I am here!
Sorry, I had no wifi when you sent this :P
That's alright! Shall we get on our way? I'm excited to meet everyone.
Absolutely, yeah! Let's do this!
First person? Or third person?
(Please allow me to stalk this… please…)
Sure!
You might learn something interesting about this planet.
Either or! It doesn't really matter to me!
Okee dokee, we'll do third person.
The trees were tall, and loomed into the sky. To some, it might be intimidating, the silence and the feeling of being small, but Hannah was used to it. This was her turf, the trees and the quiet and the stillness.
If only she knew where the hell she was.
One moment, she had been taking a walk through the park, and the next moment, she was here. It was the kind of thing you could only hear about in books, which she read a lot of, and now here she was, going through… something.
She shook her head. She could do what the people in the books did, climb the tree to see if they recognized anywhere, but she wouldprobably have no clue where she was. But it was okay. Everything was alright.
Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.
Still, there were trees, and she'd be a fool not to climb them. Sticking her hand in her pocket to make sure she had her phone and pocketknife, the two things she always carried with her, she walked over to the nearest tree and heaved her small frame onto a branch, and started to climb.
Rachel stared at the terrain around her. The giant trees in front of her, the plain lands that she was in, the city behind her. There was no way. No possible way. She been collecting her arrows from the target when suddenly she was here.
"No sounds. Couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary," she muttered to herself out loud. There was only one way she could think of for that to happen. She suddenly had an idea. Jumping up and down a few times didn't help her to see over the massive trees. So she took off in the opposite direction at a dead sprint. Going until she couldn't breathe. Finally she turned and looked back at the forest. From the hilltop she was on, she stared at a giant land pillar in what looked like the center of the forest. A huge grin appeared on her face, as she confirmed where she was.
Laughing because she didn't know what else to do, Rachel sat down. The grass was tall and soft, and little ladybugs clutched the long blades, trying not to get blown away by the wind. "How the hell did you get here?" Rachel asked herself aloud again. "What do I do? I could go find my characters…"
She suddenly sat up and looked around. The smile fading from her face. "When am I in the story? Before, after, or right in the middle? I gotta find the ninja." She jumped up, made sure for a moment that she still had her bow and arrows, checked her pocket for her knife and started towards the forest again.
A person. Had just. Appeared. Just like she had. Hannah tilted her head, watching as a figure burst into a sprint. So there were other people here. Weird. Maybe they could help her? Although she wasn't the best person to talk to complete strangers, she needed to know what was going on, and this was the best way to find out where the hel - heck - she was.
But no. It could be dangerous. Hannah climbed higher in the tree, to the place where the branches were so thin that a heavier person wouldn't dare to climb any further. She could see the sky, glimmering above her. There were more trees on the horizon, as far as the eye could see.
She scowled. Where was she?
Inside the forest was a good four degrees cooler than the plains were. Rachel could hear birds everywhere and leaves shaking. Like she'd always imagined this place to be. There were flowers of all kinds everywhere, and ferns, and moss, bushes, and any plant you could think of. There were also huge roots cutting through the earth and sticking out of the ground.
Rachel paused, and looked around. How was she going to find the ninja? She wasn't trained to track, she could climb trees sure, but climbing up the pillar? That was out of the question. Even if she could climb it, it would take her days to get to the top, and she couldn't even guarantee the ninja would be there. Depending on what was going on, it was possible that no one was even in the woods.
Racking her brain, Rachel sat down on a rock. She picked up a stick and began tracing lines in the dirt while she thought. She traced out a basic map of the area, knowing where everything was in relation to her could help her decide where to go. Then someone came to mind.
Jake. Jake was a healer of Rothe, but also a representative of Ethor. Well on his way to being put in charge of many things, due to his wisdom, level head, and skill. He had a cabin in these woods. And there was always a good chance that he was there. No matter what part of the story she was in. And if he wasn't there there was only two options then for what part of the story she was in.
With a new plan Rachel got up a brushed herself off and took two steps before stopping again. Moss and bark rained down lightly around her. She looked up and spotted another person. Her heart stopped, as she didn't know who it was. Not knowing if they were friend or foe, she pulled back to the base of the tree hoping that the person wouldn't see her.
The person was back. Hannah glanced down, scowling down at the ground. They could be dangerous. Who know. She shrugged. What the heck. She was going to climb down, and while she would probably get herself killed, she couldn't give a flying fu…dge. Yeah. That's what she was going to say.
She clambered down easily, wincing as the bark cut through her thin leggings. Maybe it hadn't been the best idea to wear this. Now she was stuck who-knows-where in a pair of leggings and a hoodie. She stopped, perching on a branch above the person's head. They were trying to hide, apparently, but failing.
"Nice hiding spot," Hannah called down, voice full of laughter. "It's totally hiding you from anyone's sight. Nice job." It was always good to start with jokes, to make people feel easier around her. It usually worked. She fingered the knife in her pocket, but didn't remove it.
Rachel's breath caught in her throat. She recognized that voice. "At least, I'm already on the ground. I could just grab the branch and slingshot you. Ever think about that?" She replied sarcastically. "Besides if I really wanted to hide, I'd've just gone up the other side of the tree while you were going down."
That voice… Hannah had only heard it over the phone, but it was almost as familiar as her own. "You could have tried, but I'd have heard you. It's really hard to climb a tree quietly. Believe me, I should know." She grinned. "I think you were trying to hide, you're just too ashamed to admit that you can't hide very well." A pulse of excitement ran through her.
"I would find no shame in admitting I'm bad at hiding, if I were bad at hiding," Rachel grinned. She definitely knew that voice. "Now, am I a bit stubborn to admit that I didn't think this through all that way…… maaaaaaaaaaaybe."
"What, you not thinking something through? No! That goes against all I know about you!" Hannah grinned so hard it felt like her face would explode. She leaned over the branch, to see the mysterious person better. "Hey, Warrior."
"Hi Pyro," Rachel leaned against the tree and tipped her head to see her. "So now begs the question. Why are you and I both here? Coincidentally at the same time. In the same area. On Htrae."
"This is Htrae?" Hannah blinked. "I knew that, totally." She hung upside down from the branch, attempting to cross her arms, while her face slowly reddened as the blood all rushed to her head. "Um… probably because we're super awesome and amazing and the universe decided to reward us by sending us to your world. I can finally hug your characters now!" She grinned. "This isn't Salt Lake City, but it's almost better, ya know?"
"Yeah, I was pretty surprised to end up here," Rachel shrugged. "I was just about to head over to find Jake. He would be able to tell us when in the story we are. Because I don't know about you, but I hope that we aren't in the middle of a war."
"Yeah, me too. But where on Earth, I mean Htrae, are we? And what are we supposed to say to Jake? Because I'm pretty sure if two girls come to him, out of the blue, with one of them claiming to be the author, he might be a bit weirded out." Hannah swung herself out of the tree and landed with her knees bent to absorb the impact. She straightened.
"Currently, I believe we are standing in Rothe. And as for Jake, we don't have to tell him that I'm the author, and he knows about the cuts. He knows that there are likely to be people that come through them so we can tell him that we're from Earth and we got lost. And just subtly transition into what's going on here," Rachel suggested
"Fair enough." Hannah shrugged. "So, do you know exactly where in Rothe we are right now? Because I'm not familiar with your world's geography." She paused for a moment. "What if it was years after the end? And all of your characters were old? And maye Kye was a little bit happier, and Tolkalee was still alive? And happiness and stuff?"
