Indi's head whipped to the explosion. It wasn't caused by her, but it was the perfect distraction for Spectre. As the hero slipped away, Indi took the opportunity to speed home, drop off her stuff, get into costume and speed towards the explosion. Having super speed came in handy in a big city.
Tango reached the sight of the explosion a few minutes later, and a string of curses left her mouth at the sight. There was a decent sized crater in the middle of the street, leaving a surrounding building crumbling and the semi-busy street in chaos. She tore another strip from her other pant leg without thinking, this one long enough to tie around her head and keep the fabric over her eye in place as she immediately set into the chaos. "Find anyone alive but injured. Look for the most severe injuries. You know what to do." She signed to Emmy, who nodded reluctantly and slipped off.
Indi sped up to being right behind Spectre. Her mouth was centimetres from the other female, a chilling grin on her face. "Is little Spectre gonna try and sort out the explosion?" She whisper cackled. She sped away before Spectre could react, the grin never leaving her face.
It took Tango a bit longer than any normal person to react, plenty used to ghosts taking close to her, as though afraid the living would hear her. She did nothing more than cast a glance around as she shoved aside her pain, pulling various civilians from rubble and making sure somebody uninjured helped them away before moving on. Though her nemesis was obviously here, this didn't strike the hero as something Impulse would do, not quite.
Indi sighed. It was unfortunate. Spectre was too busy with the explosion that she was't able to fight her. It's sad, She thought. Maybe I should have set off that explosion. Oh well. Maybe next time.
She has superspeed. She could clear this place of civilians in no time, and instead she chooses to fuck with me. Tango raked a hand through her hair, smearing a dark red throughout her already red hair. And then a shout drew her attention, and her head shot up in the direction of it. Hinata. Another one of her ghosts, getting her attention.
She rolled over, looking up at the sky that was slowly getting comvered in smoke. But, since I'm already here… She rolled over to be on her front. Why don't I fuck with her instead?
She weaved through mangled car wrecks, towards Hinata. The ghost, who'd almost always been unshakable, looked slightly queasy, or as much as a ghost could.
"Emmy told me." He said, as soon as she was close enough. "She says to let you know that this was them. And-" He cut off, waving to what looked like nothing more than a pile of rubble, with a large support beam of some sort lying on top. And then it moved.
"Fucker." She cursed, not wasting any time in beginning to clear away the rubble as much as she could. There was a groan, and a hand became visible, then an arm, and then most of a person. Tango hooked her hands under one side of the beam, gritting her teeth as she lifted. The beam barely budged. "Hinata, I need some help. Grab the other end." Her eyes landed on a ghost flitting around the wrecked street, and she called him over as well, to get the person trapped out as soon as the beam was lifted. Activating as much of her power as she dared, Hinata and the man she'd called over slowly became tangible, now visible to any normal person, though they looked slightly off.
Oooh, she's doing something important. Wonder what I should do? Maybe…suffocate her? Boil her blood? Shatter a bone? Indi sighed, a small laugh escaping her throat. Maybe I'll do all three. I don't know. I got a lot of options here.
"Get her out, hurry." Tango instructed, her legs wobbling just slightly from the weight of the beam. Use your legs, not your arms. Remember dad's rule. Hold until it kills you if you save one person. And even then, she'd keep holding if she could.
Indi pointed her finger at Spectre, intending to tighten her airways. She 'missed' and her finger was pointed at the person coming out of the rubble. Oops, I missed. Sorry. The man that Spectre was helping started to choke, gasping for air.
"Ta-uh, Specter, something's wrong with her." Hinata said, his form flickering slightly, almost unnoticeable. The man helping pull the woman out from under the beam continued till she was far enough away for Tango to drop the beam, signing quickly to Hinata, who disappeared suddenly. Her jaw clenched as she crouched next to the choking woman, checking over the injuries she could see before trying to find some way to loosen Impulse's power.
Indi pointed another finger at someone else, close to Spectre but not close enough. That person started to choke as well. Oh, this is fun. No one can stop me.
"Quite the cowardly move from you, Impulse." Tango said as she stood, loud enough that she knew the villain would hear her. "I expected a more direct attack, instead of pulling civilians into a mess that has nothing to do with them. Or you, for that matter, but hey. Hinata?" And then a fist was materializing out of nowhere, and driving itself into Impulse's side without any time for her to speed away.
"That's quite a cowardly move from yourself," Indi chuckled, winded. She made it so that she was healed and didn't feel pain. "Hurting civilians is the perfect ploy, especially for a Top Hero like you."
((This is where limits would be nice…like, range of her abilities, whether they require the person being in her line of sight, and a way to break the hold of them on a person))
"I never claimed I wasn't one, now did I?" Tango said, as the ghost who had been helping her picked up the civilian choking, moving off quickly with her. She was pushing it, holding the tangibility for so long after her kidnapping and torture, but she was a hero. She couldn't just not help.
The corners of her mouth rose up, smiling wide enough to show most of her teeth. This was that smile that terrified everyone, that the media loved, though she had never given the full smile. True to form, it never reached her eyes, just stayed cold and out of place, giving her a look of being unhinged. Wield your smile like a weapon. "Are you suggesting I organized this? Because I can tell you now, this comes from a far greater threat."
(but…the two people are in her sight…)
"No, I'm not saying that you organised it, not at all," Indi replied, unfazed by the smile. She dropped the hold on the two people's airways as she caught her breath. She ran down the wall and leaned against the building.
((Yeah, no, I know. I was just curious if getting them out of her sight would then free them from the power))
"That's incredibly good to know." Tango said, eyes flickering across the wrecked street as she watched the ghosts milling about. That meant-
"The civilians are safe. We cleared 'em all." Hinata's voice assured her, right at her shoulder. He was intangible again, as were all the ghosts she'd given any form. Safe. The innocent were safe.
Tango slumped slightly, though she kept her back straight, for the most part. God, she was so tired. And with homework, the cryptic threat from her kidnappers, and dealing with Impulse all piled on, she wasn't going to get any sleep for a while. What else is new.
"You should keep your guard up," Indi smirked, watching behind the Top Hero. "Someone's coming for you." There was a man behind Spectre holding a knife, about to strike. If Spectre was to look closely, she would see sweat beading on Indi's forehead. She could control the brain impulses of the body, but only for about 2 minutes and using a lot of energy.
"You say that like this is news." Tango said, studying Indi for a brief moment before spinning, her arm coming up and knocking the knife from the man's hand. "I don't have time for your petty games, Impulse. I have bigger problems to deal with. Bleeding out being only one of them." She stepped back, not appearing in any rush to get away. "Does this city mean anything to you?"
(hey when/how are you planning to make them have to work together?)
((I've been trying? It's sort of up to Indi to ask what the hell is going on))
(how would you like me to get her to react? cause she wouldn't react like that unless it was something super huge, like a a ufo or something. at least, while she's impulse)
((That explains how the sheer amount of blood running down Tango's face didn't strike up any questions lmao. Well, the guys that kidnapped 'Specter' and tortured her are planning on using some doomsday device to end the world, or at least wipe out the city, so any ideas on how to work that into this convo between them now?))
