Kneel looked at his feet, understanding the two words that came out of the other's mouth. He nodded quickly, pointing at himself, then pointing to Cori.
"Je bent?" He then sat down, the wooden handle of his ax and his hooves scraping the ground roughly. Kneel did not seem to care though. He wasn't wearing his crown nor any of his royal gold, so he felt the need to recapitalize and not be so pent up of royalness for once. He was sitting with his legs crossed, setting his mask down with the opposite hand that was holding it. He then clasped his hands together and placed them on his ankles.
<And you?>
Cori took several seconds to try and figure out what he was being asked. "Ah… um… am I a hybrid?" He asked, pointing to himself to try and clarify what he was being asked. He shook his head a bit. "If that's what you're asking, I'm not… I'm an avian. Just an avian. My whole family is." He replied awkwardly. That's a lot of words that he probably doesn't know…
Kneel, moderatley confused, tilted his head. He knew he was being spoken to in a different language, but he understood the word hybrid.
"Ik Piglin, Je Wat?" He asked the same question, but rephrased it in a simpler way to try and get his words across.
<Im Piglin, Your what?>
Cori listened closely, trying to figure out what the words meant. They were fairly simple, so he just assumed that they were at least similar to what they sounded like in English. "I'm an avian…" He replied, awkwardly pointing to himself. "Avian. I have wings." He gestured to his wings.
"Ik Piglin, Je Avian?" He asked loosely, not knowing what exactly an avian was, but he had never seen a Human with Wings, so he connected the assumption.
<Im Piglin, Your Avian?>
"Uh… y… yes?" Cori nodded nervously, starting to fidget with his wings again. He was obviously uneasy. He'd at least learned something about Kneel, but nothing that helped him figure out what his intentions might be. He didn't seem aggressive, but there was no real way to tell for sure unless he was attacked.
Kneel nodded back, having a semi-clear understanding of who the other was now. He looked them over for a second, before jittering a little. He was a slight bit cold due to the rain. He scratched his left cheek, which then suddenly aroused a response from his unhealed, unpatched, almost blinded eye, in which blood started to seep and drip down his face without Kneel taking much notice.
Cori paled a bit when Kneel started bleeding, not sure what he should do to help. He's hurt?? He seems okay, though? What should I do?! He tore off a piece of fabric from his makeshift bag after a few seconds and nervously held it out to Kneel, hoping that he knew what it was for.
Kneel tilted his head once more, playing with his fingers until he noticed a drop of blood on his arm. He suddenly seemed annoyed, but Cori held out the fabric to him. Kneel slowly grabbed it with his rawhide-covered fingertips and pressed it under his eye.
He did not seem to be in pain, he just seemed annoyed that he was bleeding. It had continued raining, but the storm clouds overhead in the distance were breaking up, and it would be sunny within the next twenty to thirty minutes.
"Um… are you okay?" Cori asked, not really thinking that Kneel would understand him, but hoping for the best. Anyways, it would be awkward to just sit in silence even though they didn't understand each other's languages. At least it probably won't be long, right? The rain will end, and… we'll probably just part ways.
Kneel took what he knew, the word You and Okay sticking to him, and he answered, half confident and grumbly.
"Ik ben oké, ik haat deze wond gewoon. Ik kan daardoor niet zo goed zien.." Kneel didn't realize he had rambled a little bit, but he hoped he would understand some of it.
<I am okay, I just hate this wound. I can't see very well because of it.>
"I'll… take that as a yes." Cori ran his fingers through his hair and looked away awkwardly, not sure what to do. Communication was definitely very difficult like this. "Do you have a name?" He asked after a while of silence.
Kneel took a second to process but the word Name sounded like Naam in pronunciation, so he took it as that as well, tapping the small cloth which was almost heavily soaked, under his eye. His eye had almost stopped its bleeding.
"Mijn naam is Kneel. Wat is jouw naam?" He responded, his viable eye watching Cori closely, mostly because he was interested.
<My name is Kneel, What is Your Name?">
Well, that sounded almost like English… it seems like he understood what I was asking, at least. "My name is Corvus. Or… uh… Cori, I guess." He replied, fidgeting nervously with his hands. Hopefully that's what he was asking, anyway. "Why did you come here?" He asked, not having high hopes of being able to understand an answer to this even if Kneel understood the question.
Kneel took the cloth off of his cheek, folding it roughly and holding it out to Cori. There was still a small sliver of blood on his face, but his eye had stopped its response.
To Cori's question, Kneel tilted his head, the only thing he really understood was the word 'here'. He seemed confused, fidgeting with his fingers again. He would sometimes click the rawhide of his fingertips together, making a bone-like clunking sound.
Cori held his hands up when Kneel tried to return the bloody cloth. "No, no. Don't worry. You can keep that." He smiled nervously, glancing to the side again. "I suppose I couldn't really expect you to understand that… or me to understand an answer." He sighed at Kneel's lack of response. "Do you want to hurt me?" He asked.
Kneel knew what the word Hurt in English meant. He had heard someone say it before. It was a world of pain, to which he also made out the words me and do. He connected that by Cori's puzzled look, he was asking if Kneel was any sort of dangerous.
"Ik zal alleen gevaarlijk zijn als je me eerst aanvalt." Kneel replied, tying the cloth around his right pointer finger. Then gesturing to the Axe behind his back, which was glowing. The blade itself was purple, it had small scratches on it, but it was definitely shiny. If Cori were to lay a hand on it, Kneel would move.
-I will only be dangerous if you attack me first.-
Cori swallowed nervously, obviously still bewildered and afraid. He hadn't understood any of the words Kneel had said, so he had no way of knowing what the answer was. It sounded too lengthy to be a simple yes or no… so he concluded that for now, he shouldn't let his guard down. "Um… is… is that a yes or a no?" He asked meekly.
Kneel tied the word Yes with the way Cori had nodded earlier, meaning he might've not understood what Kneel said, which he was prepared for such.
"Nee. Ik zal je geen pijn doen." Kneel shook his head at Cori, pointing to his axe again and shaking his head more. He was friendly, but if provokes he would be on guard. He already had put a small ounce of trust into Cori because of how they trusted him already.
'Nee' is… probably no? Hopefully a no. Cori tentatively nodded and looked away. He still wouldn't let his guard down, not sure he could trust Kneel, but he felt a little bit better at least. "Um… the rain is probably going to stop soon, so… uh… you know." He said awkwardly.
Kneel sat, playing with his fingers and then flipping his head back to look into the cave behind them. He honestly comes up to the overworld to explore, so he turned back to Cori and reached out to tap Cori's leg.
"Kan ik je verkennen en volgen? Ik heb niets te deon." He said, putting his hand back with the other. He had stopped tapping his fingertips together and had moved to fidget with the rawhides of his feet. He acted like a child even though he was a late teen.
<Can I explore and follow you? I have nothing to do.>
Cori looked up when Kneel tapped his leg, listening to what he said and only growing more confused. "Ah… um… I-I have no idea what you just asked me." He replied awkwardly, laughing nervously. What does he want from me? "Do you need help with something? Ah… food, maybe? Is that it? Are you cold??"
[Heeft u ergens hulp bij nodig? Ah … eten, misschien? Is dat het? Heb je het koud??]
Kneel only understood certain words through pronunciation, and decided to try something, he used the English he knew to his advantage. He popped up so now he was on his knees, pointing at the rock and carving the letters, 'A d u v e n t u r e' into the rock, then sitting back like he had been before. He turned to look at Cori then, tilting his head in question, as if to say, 'Can we go on an Adventure together?'.
"'Adventure'?" Cori glanced up, confused. He wants to join me? Huh? Why would he? I'm not all that interesting. "I-I mean, I… I suppose you can join me if you'd like. The language barrier might be kinda difficult to deal with, though…" He sighed softly.
Kneel nodded softly, lifting his hand up and rubbing his finger with his open hand. His finger hurt a little, but he would get used to it.
Kneel stood, the rain slowly clearing. He walked out of the cave, looking up to the clouds, then turning to Cori.
"Ben je klaar om te gaan, Cori?"
<You ready to go then, Cori?">
