Okay, so like, I've seen a lot of romance role-plays on this site. Like. A lot.

So,
I've decided that I want a roleplay that isn't romance, and it just focuses on two souls just becoming friends. They have had little to no past interactions and they just grow together slowly, from strangers to friends. As the title suggests.

Is this a stupid idea? Perhaps.
Am I going to put this out there anyway? Yes.
Do I have rules? Well I'm glad you asked.

Rules are:

  • andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)'s
  • All mentions of something that could be a potential trigger should have a warning and a spoiler.
  • Cursing is alright. Just no slurs. At all. No excuses.
  • Stalkers are welcomed.
  • Don't be an ass to other role-players. We're human too.
  • No one-liners please. At least three sentences could be good. One-liners are tough to write for.
  • Good grammar and spelling is a thing that would be greatly appreciated. A few mistakes are always understandable. But if it's horrid and constantly so, I may have to remove you.
  • On the topic of the last bullet, if I have not seen you role-play before, I may ask for a sample of your writing.
  • I'll try not to let it die if you try not to. πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘ˆ
  • I reserve the right to say no.
  • I will do you a first-class favour and yeet your ass from the role-play if you refuse to follow rules. <3
  • I can and will add onto this list if I think of anything else. (of course I'll update ya on it!)

Don't be shy if you wanna join. Just ask. The worst that can happen is a 'no' q゚..q(っ ᐛ )っ
In case anyone was wondering what inspired the title it was a poem that I read by someone πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘ˆ

(okay, sorry for the wait)

Name: Nikki Othello
Age (16-22): 18
Gender identity/pronouns: Female, she/her
Appearance: –i think i described it okay enough that you don't really have to be able to see the images, so no worries if you can't– Nikki's hair if usually in some long, wavy style down to her back. Sometimes she fancies it up and puts it into ethereal braids, or she sometimes just keeps it simple and puts it into a wavy high ponytail. She usually always has it dyed some crazy way like a sunset or some aquatic theme. Though her natural hair colour is champagne brown. Nikki is around the average side of the height spectrum, standing at around 165 cm. Her skin is pallid, but not quite the "sunburns easily" type. It's towards the lighter shades of Wilmington tan and has peachy undertones to it. Her body shape is something close to a rectangle, and she doesn't have many muscular features outside of her legs.
Personality: Nikki is generally an outgoing, sweet, and passionate person. She doesn't often hesitate in going after something she wants and taking it by the horns. She always tries to reach a hand out to help those in need. She is often described as an angel by those who don't know her well. Though, she's not nearly as golden and precious as some people like to think. Once you get to know her well, she still keeps some of those positive traits, they just seem to be a little more strikingly extreme than first sight. Her passion makes her seem a bit headstrong, and sometimes she is described as loud by those close to her. She's also a bit sensitive when it comes to thing like her flaws or mistakes she made. And generally doesn't take those being poked at lightly. Though sometimes she is willing to laugh with them if she found it funny too.
Some hobbies: Nikki is very interested in fashion trends, making clothes, and videogames. Especially competitive videogames. She can be a bit extreme once she wins, taking to letting out a victory screech, skipping around the room, doing a random and extravagant victory dance, and others. And when playing against siblings, teasing them a little. Case in point, she takes "bragging rights" to a whole new level.
A dash of habits: When trying to distract herself from something, Nikki will sometimes pick under her nails, even if there's little to nothing there, additionally, when sitting anywhere, if possible, she either moves her legs around a lot, or extends her leg(s) to rest on another surface. Taking up a lot of space (which is sometimes complained about).
A sprinkle of something random (optional): She has 3 siblings. An older brother, a younger brother, and a twin sister. Nikki is actually quite organized. Though when she cleans, she manages to know where nothing is, even when the point of cleaning is to be able to find stuff easily (calling myself out here).

Name: Teigi Namaka
Age (16-22): 19
Gender identity/pronouns: Male, he/him
Appearance: Average height with a slightly lanky build, light skin with freckles everywhere. Messy, ash-brown hair that's just barely long enough to be put into a small ponytail. He has striking, forest-green eyes, and a round nose.
Personality: Teigi's very extroverted, but can be very oblivious, especially when it comes to romance. He's creative and observant, and loves looking at small details. He's somewhat sensitive, and tries to help people if he can.
Some hobbies: He's a writer, so he spends most of his time writing. Other than that, he dabbles in art, especially sketching his characters and scenes. He's also a big reader, of course.
A dash of habits: He carries a notebook and pen everywhere, so he can jot things down whenever he needs to. He also tends to bite his nails when nervous or bored.
A sprinkle of something random (optional): He has a cat named Ren, who he found on the side of the road and decided to keep.

(I forgot. Also like, sorry if it's bad-)

Friday afternoon, just as she usually was, Nikki found herself at the local library. However, not for what she'd usually go for. Any other day, she would check out a fashion magazine, but that day, she decided to do something a little different. So she made an escape to the fiction section and began looking for anything that caught her eye. Her eyes glazed over many titles, War and Peace, No Longer Human, 27 days. She even took a look over in the graphic novel and manga section. And alas, she finally picked up a book. The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Also know as F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was a classic, from what she'd heard, and even though she was prompted to read it while she was still in school, she never did.

So Nikki sat down at a table and commenced reading. She decided that it would be seven-fold more tranquil than sitting around with her family and trying to read a magazine. Though, ever few seconds, she flicked her eyes up and around the library. Boredom prominent in her ocean blue eyes. She muttered to herself quietly,

"Of all things you decide to read Nikki, you picked a book that even 13-year-old you didn't want to read." She sighed, putting down the book. She still refused to go home, but at the moment, she had not an ounce of entertainment, not even a single distraction to drain her of her boredom. She contemplated harassing conversing with the other library patrons, but quickly decided against it. After all, they were all probably there to do the exact opposite of what she was doing, which was literally anything else.

Teigi wandered the library, searching for his next read. He'd read almost all of the library's classics, so he eventually decided to keep going at those. Sure, there were a few mangas he was interested in, but he'd check those out later. The young man scanned the shelves, his hand eventually hovering over Lord of the Flies. He'd read it for school once, but he was only twelve or thirteen, and he wasn't able to understand the material at that age.

Teigi pulled the book off the shelf and looked for a place to sit down. School had just ended, so the library had more patrons than usual. He eventually found a comfortable-looking chair in a corner and sat down, opening to the first page.

Nikki tapped her feet on the floor in boredom and swayed slightly. She inhaled, and if she hadn't caught herself, she would've let out an exhale so much louder. However, she paused, covered her mouth and exhaled into her hands.

Her eyes caught on every last inhabitant of the library within her field of vision. Making eye contact with some, and just staring at the backs of necks of some others. She watched people leave, come in, check out books, sit around and read. And despite all this business, she didn't find a thing to entertain her. Not even the old guy at the check-out desk asking "what'd you say?" after ever word the librarian said. And usually he would at least make her giggle.

She sighed and stood, brushing off her seat and the jean skirt she wore. She made her way back to the classics section which she had gotten the book from. She sat the book back on a shelf, a random one, since she didn't even know which shelf she'd gotten it from in the first place. She waddled away from the isle, hoping that no one would notice and scold her for it.

Nikki looked left and right after vacating the isle and then began to make her way back to her seat, only to find it was taken by the old man who was once at the check-out. Her face swirled with disappointment and frustration, and she spun around to search for any other empty seats. Her large, hopeful eyes caught onto three possible seats. One across from a woman who was audibly talking to herself, the second next to a forest-eyed boy, and the third in the kids' section. If she didn't have just a little more decency, Nikki would have, without a doubt, headed for the tiny chair in the kids' section. But, alas, she decided to go and sit next to the forest-eyed boy, hoping the awkwardness would fade if she sunk into her phone a little.

To zero surprise to her, she still felt awkward after minutes of sitting next to him on her phone. Part of herself just wanted to sink into her champagne brown hair and go poof. All she hoped was that in the case he did notice her, that he was feeling less awkward than she.

Teigi glanced up from his book, looking at the girl sitting beside him. How long has she been there? Do I really get that lost in books? He didn't bother answering his own question, for he knew that the answer had always been 'yes'. The man set his book in his lap, and looked over at the girl. "Hello," he managed. "It's a nice day to go to the library, huh?" What was that? Teigi, can't you manage one social interaction? "I'm sorry, I'm never really good at talking," he mumbled.

@furetakunai ac_unit

At the sound of a voice, Nikki's eyes widened for a moment, though her eyelids quickly reset to their resting position. She nodded slowly, processing what he said slowly.

"Oh, yes, it is," she responded with a smile. She cocked her head to the side and leaned forward a little, just to see the title of the book the boy next to her was reading: Lord of the Flies. Her mouth pulled into a straight line at the sight. Yet another book she refused to reading when she was younger. Though, instead of being deterred she decided to inquire about the book. As to fuel their conversation.

"So, uh, what's that book about?" she inquired. She was almost 100% sure that her inference on what the book about was incorrect. Just how likely was it that a boy would fly around on a giant swarm of flies and have them all bow to him. If you asked her, not very.

@SpookyScarySnoteleks group

Teigi chuckled. "It's pretty complicated, but the gist is that there's a bunch of British boys stuck on an island, and they go crazy." The young man grinned as he went on. "It's a pretty old book, but it's a great classic. 'specially if you're looking at it from a psychological standpoint." A small blush spread across Teigi's face. "Sorry if I'm talking a bunch, I usually only have discussions like this with my cat." He laughed again, resting his elbow on the soft arm of the chair.

@furetakunai ac_unit

Nikki grinned at the mention of the cat. She almost always had a soft spot for animals. Minus seagulls. The disease-ridden winged rodents they were. Ever since one stole her doughnut, she never saw them the same. But that aside, animals were something she loved. And as much as she wanted to talk about the cat, she felt it would just be rude to not address what the other had said about the book.

She tried to think of something that intrigued her about what he had described. Her brain chimed, and it was almost as if someone had screwed in a lightbulb in her mind. "Soo, how'd they get stuck there? Or does it not say?" as she inquired, her voice decrescendo-ed. Fading down to a barely audible whisper.

"..and which breed is your cat?"

@SpookyScarySnoteleks group

"It was a plane crash. Plane got shot down. It's not covered much in the book, but the theory is that somebody dropped an atom bomb on Britain. Y'know how when they were bombing the cities, and everybody sent their kids away to the countryside, like in the Chronicles of Narnia? It's kinda like that, but they're sending the kids out of the country." Teigi had a pleasant smile on his face. His favorite conversation topic was books, and he was glad to have somebody who was willing to listen to him.

"Oh, my cat? We're not exactly sure, but the vets think he's part tabby." The young man chuckled. "I kinda just found him on the side of the road and adopted him, I didn't get him from a breeder or a shelter or anything."

@furetakunai ac_unit

"Oh? That's interesting. I haven't read too many classic novels," she admitted, "so I don't know too much about stories written then."

She swung her feet back and forth, thudding them against the front of the plush chair a few times. Everything processed in her head at a walking pace, causing her to just sit and nod slowly at each response. Eventually, she responded, summarizing all she had heard of the story so far.

"So, potentially, bomb was dropped on Britain," Nikki mulled, "the boys in the story were sent on a plane to get to safety, plane got shot down, mission failed. And they try to survive after?" She placed a thoughtful finger on her chin. She wanted so badly to go back to talking about the cat, but the boy next to her seemed happy talking about the book, so she decided not to ruin it for him.

"That seems… intriguing. And complicated too as you said," the girl nodded, her ponytail swinging freely as she did. "You seem to know a lot about this book already though, have you read it before? Or have you just read up on it or heard about it?"
