Well, I'm right here. Yell away, hun. Qûs'ÿltn snickers.
Well, I'm right here. Yell away, hun. Qûs'ÿltn snickers.
"What the fuck were you thinking?!" Farah demanded, not waiting a second longer. "Why would you go and do such a thing? You… I…" She shook her head. "How could you just leave me so quickly?"
Qûs'ÿltn smirks. That it, hun?
Farah narrowed her eyes. "I had more at the moment, but it's been a while since then."
Qûs'ÿltn laughs. Okay. Well, to answer your questions: I was thinking I could save you people from certain death. I left because. . . well, let's just say I've lived a full life.
He pauses. Speaking of the others, how's Saul? You two still a thing?
Farah lifted her left hand up and into view. On her ring finger, a sparkling gem gave Qûs'ÿltn the answer he needed.
Qûs'ÿltn laughs in delight. Indeed? Well, this is exciting news! When will the wedding be? Or are you two already married?
"We were married a few months ago," Farah answered, smiling with relief at his laugh. She didn't know why, but she thought he would've been upset. She did have another question for him, but she was saving it.
Qûs'ÿltn's gaze turns mock outraged. And I wasn't invited? Oh, you wound me, Farah.
The fairy rolled her eyes. "Please. I wouldn't have invited you even if you were alive." She smirked knowingly as the perfect transition emerged into where she wanted the conversation to go. "If I invited you, would you have even come?"
Qûs'ÿltn snorts. Oh, that's harsh, sweetheart.
He pauses, then busts out laughing. It takes several minutes before he can collect himself. Of course! You think me an uncaring fool?
"No, definitely not," Farah remarked, finally getting to the reason why she'd been searching for him for so long. "But I know that some people find it difficult to go to weddings when the one they love is getting married to someone else."
Qûs'ÿltn freezes, then groans, chuckling. The old man told you, huh?
"Indeed," Farah remarked. "Care to explain?"
Qûs'ÿltn looks at Farah with a large amount of amusement glittering in his eyes.
Pretty self explanatory, don't you think? he replies.
Farah arched her eyebrows. "No, I don't. Care to explain?"
Qûs'ÿltn sighs. What do you want me to explain, exactly? Why I fell in love with you? When?
"Yes."
Qûs'ÿltn snorts. Fine. I fell in love with you because you are one of the few people that actually managed to control yourself around me. And how determined you were, about your past, about your future, about not using your magic. I admired that you were willing to die - for something that wasn't really your fault - even if it was stupid. How brave you were at the end there to walk towards an army that, powers combined, was infinitely more powerful than you.
Farah's jaw dropped. "Oh," was all she could bring herself to say before she could collect her thoughts into another question. "So why did you never tell me? You never even tried."
Qûs'ÿltn shrugs. I had a suspicion that there was someone you were running from, even before you told be about Saul. When you told me about him, it made sense. You didn't want to hurt him, and so you left. And you didn't want to hurt anybody else, either.
"But you never told me," Farah pressed, narrowing her eyes slightly in confusion. "Why didn't you ever tell me?"
Qûs'ÿltn sighs. It would only have made you confused, uneasy, stressed. I couldn't do that to you, on top of everything else. I figured that if I had to go, it would be keeping you safe and happy.
Farah pressed her lips together for a moment, contemplating a response. Finally, she said, "I guess we'll both never know. Though I think I would've preferred you at least told me."
Qûs'ÿltn snorts. Yeah, I guess we won't.
He cocks his head, looking her dead in the eyes. No, I don't think you would.
His words carry a sense of knowledge and finality, like the toll of a funeral bell.
