" nothing can change my view of you, i will always love you"
" nothing can change my view of you, i will always love you"
Farah's clouded eyes became clear, and she smiled faintly. "Thank you, darling."
"you are welcome, you can talk when you feel ready."
Farah inhaled steadily, but her exhale was visibly shaky. "In my last year of Alfea, Rosalind invited me to be her protégé. I accepted, of course. It was an honor to me at the time." She shook her head briefly before continuing.
"Then the next year, as the Burned One attacks became steadily worst, Rosalind assembled a group of us to be in her battalion and travel with her on her quest to end the Burned Ones' reign of terror. I was invited by Rosalind and again accepted. Being in the battalion and her protégé, we began to spend most of our time around each other, like we have been."
Farah reached up and gently cupped Neva's cheek.
neva leaned into farahs hand, listening to every word. " go on," she said softly
"It was an evening not quite unlike this. It was dark and we were both working late. At one point, when the words on the pages started blurring together in my vision, Rosalind approached my desk with a bottle of liquor." Farah closed her eyes and shook her head. "I should've said no, but I doubt that alcohol was the only thing to influence me that night. Her magic was taunting in the air, but I was too tired and soon too drunk to realize. Eventually, we ended up sitting together on one of the couches in the headmistress's office, and she put her arm around me, and I was too delirious to tell her no even if I wanted to. I don't know how I remember every word she said to me that night. I was horribly exhausted and drunk out of my wits, but I remember she looked me in the eye and whispered, 'Don't you want me?' And at that moment, I did. And I kissed her."
neva gave her lover a sympathetic look. " it explained why you where skiddish with me.." she mumbled
Farah nodded slowly. "I didn't want you to rush into something you weren't ready for. That kiss was… incredible," she admitted reluctantly. "But I wish with all my heart that evening could've gone very differently. If only I told her how tired I was so she would let me leave… If I had refused the alcohol… If we hadn't sat so close…"
neva blushed a bit " it was the same for me too," she said softly. she gave farah an affectionate look " as you said yourself, she was already toying with your mind, let alone the alcohol. " she said softly
Farah nodded sadly. "Yes… and it only got worse in the following days. Rosalind has me tied on the end of a string. I was completely, blindly loyal to her. She could've told me to do practically anything, and I would've done it. And… she did."
" im sorry far.." she sighed " you shouldn't have had to do that.."
Farah's eyes began to grow teary. "You don't know what I've done," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
" no i dont, but im willing to learn, nothing you say coud ever make me cross with you. unless its ' theres no more coffee." then id have to kill you." she was trying to cheer farah up a bit, seeing the other cry was heart breaking
Farah smiled amidst the sadness and laughed while hurting tears threatened to spill down her cheeks. "Aster Dell," she murmured. "It was Aster Dell that changed everything."
" aster dell?" she asked, tilting her head
Farah nodded. "It was a civilization near the coast. Rosalind led us there, telling us the city was overcome with Burned Ones and the civilians had been evacuated. We got there, and the three of us – Rosalind, Ben, and me – all combined our magic. The lightning we brought down on the town destroyed it in seconds. It was the most power I've ever felt. When we went down to observe the damage and make sure all the Burned Ones were dead…" Her voice began to break. "There were people… she told us it had been evacuated… I should've doubted… should've questioned her." Farah closed her eyes and began to cry.
Farah Dowling never cried.
neva seemed shocked, though she let her instinct take over. she held her lover, rubbing her back gently. " ive.. ive got you.." she said softly and nuzzled into farah " your not like her.. you've never been like her.."
Farah trembled, unusually vulnerable in her lover's arms. "I have thousands of deaths' worth of blood on my hands, Neva. That day has lived in my mind for the past eight years. I'll never be able to outlive it."
" no you wont, but you can put yourself above it." she said, moving so her eyes are locked with farahs " your better then her, by alot."
Farah's shaky breath was evident, and she reached up to cup Neva's face, stroking her thumb over the girl's cheek. "What in the Otherworld have I done to deserve you?" she whispered.
neva chuckled and leaned into her hand. " im not actually sure… maybe it was holding me the night we got together." she recounted with a smile
Farah smiled faintly. "What? Like this?" The woman rearranged their positioning identical to how they'd been the night of the party. The night of their first kiss.
neva chuckled, " yeah, exactly.." she said and put her forehead on the others
"It's terribly similar," Farah whispered, and she wasn't referring to their previous experience. She couldn't help but picture Rosalind… Her eyes piercing and her lips… so, so tempting… She closed her eyes and pulled away. "I'm sorry," she gasped.
neva sighed softly, running her fingers through the others hair. she pulled a few pins out, letting the others hair down to flow around her arm.
