mmmmm blind. we'll have some fun. tho, what kind of character, like personality wise, d'you want me to use?
I want you to use Manon
idk why, but I feel like she'd be perfect for the roleplay
ghdshjsdjds just straight up 'manon'. oooo, and he gets her fresh after her official split from her parents
And she gets him fresh off an island
Reasons for their break-up?
oh, her parents definitely. if her father didn't like him, or decided he wasn't rich enough, then he'd be out of the picture. she'd keep it secret as long as she could, but….there's a lot there. either that, or she broke it off because she was scared of them finding out
Fair enough
2 days later he goes off on vacation and he's never heard from again
Also, the finding of J.J. would be on national news by that point, so she already knows he's still alive when he calls
J.J. Holmes followed the man in the blue officer's uniform, running a hand through his thick beard. He'd been found about a week ago, floating around on a hand-made raft in the middle of the Pacific. Was he out there for 3 or 4 days? When you were as dehydrated as he was, time was a tricky thing to keep up with. All he knew was that he was near death when the massive ship fished him out of the waters and hurried him to the shore.
"What's your name?" the crew member asked him as soon as he woke up from a 36 hour nap.
J.J. opened his mouth to speak, but only a dull rasp came out. It didn't even sound like his voice after a long gulp of water. "J.J. Holmes. I was in that plane crash."
"Plane crash?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow. That's when J.J. knew just how long he'd been on that island.
When he'd gotten ashore, they bustled him to a military base and handed him a phone/
"Got any family, kid?"
He shook his head.
"What do you mean?"
"They died." J.J.'s tone was numb.
"What about friends?"
J.J. thought hard, then shook his head.
The man in the officer's uniform looked desperate. "Anyone?"
J.J.'s finger hovered over the button, then slowly dialed in the only number he ever memorized and put the receiver up to his ear. Please pick up…..
Manon was midway through an assignment, sitting in the campus cafe and sipping an iced coffee, when her phone rang. A scowl marred her pretty features, highlighter hitting the surface of the table as she read the unknown caller ID. She wasn't exactly in the mood for the normal unknown callers right now. They were always one of two things, someone who'd finessed her number from a friend of hers and was hoping for a date, sex, or her notes. Or, it was her mother. That was a can of worms not worth opening ever, and she didn't want to deal with either of those things.
"This is Delacroix. Speak fast, or I am hanging up." She said simply into the phone once she'd answered the call, voice unamused and business-like. Calling it practice was fun, considering the major she was currently studying right now. Law. Her accent hadn't faded in the time since she'd last spoken to J.J., something that was incredibly obvious, especially over the phone.
J.J. faltered at the sound of her voice. Something about hearing Manon again made his heart flutter. After 5 years, he thought he was pretty much over it, but obviously not. Christ, her voice hasn't changed a bit. it was a refreshing sound, but also one that made his palms begin to sweat. Fuck, I gotta say something. J.J brought his free hand up and scratched the underside of his jaw, his face pulled into an odd look. A mix of fear, anxiety, and confusion.
He managed to peel these words from the back of his throat, "Um….hey. It's J.J." His voice was hoarse and broken, as if he really needed a drink of water.
Manon's drink nearly met the same fate as her highlighter had. That scowl eased off of her face, replaced by surprise and something else even she couldn't really name. Of course, she had caught the news on him being found while studying in Karissa's room, but for him to actually call her….
"Double?" Her voice softened slightly, avoiding repeating his actual name to keep from butchering it completely, something she had issues with in high school. "I-hello to you too, I guess. What is it you are calling for?"
"I….um…need some help, I guess," he mumbled, leaning against the wall next to him and slipping his free hand into his pocket. He blinked a couple of times, realizing that this didn't really explain much. His mind was a mess at the moment. "Mom an' Dad died in the crash, so….I had no one else to call. Am I interuptin' something?"
"No, no, I was just getting my….you call it homework, done." She said, shaking her head even though he couldn't see it. "Your parents…passed? I take it that means you need a place to go, then. Where are you?" There was no hesitance in asking where he was, in not even offering to take him in, instead just making it obvious she was going to. That was one thing that was different. The Manon who'd broken up with him had faltered in doing so, unsure what even she wanted. But she had changed, in the ways that mattered the most to her.
"Um…." he put a hand up to the receiver and asked the officer, "Where are we?"
"Fort Hunter Liggett," he responded, waiting patiently for his phone. The poor guy in front of him looked like an absolute mess. The world had changed so much in the past 5 years. "About 50 miles out of San Jose."
"San Jose," J.J. said when he pulled his hand away again. Her immediate response was…surprising, to say the least. There wasn't a hint of hesitation in her voice. "Where are you?"
"On the opposite end of California, it would seem. Glendale to be exact." Manon answered after a brief pause spent looking up a map. "Would you rather I fly out to San Jose, or I fly you out here?" She asked, head tilted as she ran through a mental list of the people she would have to ask to send her notes and assignments in the classes she would have to miss, if she did fly out herself.
"I'm guessin' you're in school?" he mumbled, wincing slightly. He didn't like the fact she would have to pay for his plane ticket, but he simply didn't have any other way to get to her. "I'll fly out there." His voice didn't convey the absolute terror he felt getting onto a plane again, but his face sure did. Thank god this is a phone call and not a video chat.
"I am, yes." She paused, eyes narrowing at nothing in particular. "Are you completely sure you would rather fly solo, Double? After crashing?" Never one to mince words, she wasn't about to start now, especially when concerned for his mental wellbeing. It didn't help that she knew him just a bit too well. "I am sure a train would work just as well, though it might take a bit longer."
"To be honest," he admitted, scratching his jaw once again with a sheepish look on his face. J.J. never could lie to Manon. She always knew. "The thought fucking terrifies me. A train sounds…way better, yeah. I can just sleep through the whole thing."
"Then a train ride it is. I will purchase the ticket on line. Do you have someone over there who can print it, or take you to a station and use my bank account, if online does not work right?" She asked, already pulling her laptop towards her.
"One of the Navy guys might, but I would have zero clue how to go about it," he admitted, blinking a few times again. God, it felt like the entire word changed, while he was stuck in time on that island. "I honestly didn't know trains were still around, either."
"They are not used quite as often, but they are still very much around." She tucked the phone between her ear and her shoulder as she searched for a train that would allow her to purchase tickets long distance. "The world has changed, I guess, since you…went missing. I might just have to come out there to guide you."
"Could you?" he asked after a moment to think. He would honestly be like a kid lost in a Wal-Mart after wandering away from his mom. "If it's too big of an inconvenience, I understand, but…" he trailed off, waiting for her response.
"It is not an inconvenience to help someone you care about." She said simply, no trace of doubt in that statement. "I will buy a ticket out there. I will likely fly, though. And then I can buy both of us train tickets once we are reunited. I should be out there by tomorrow, if I leave tonight. It….will be good to see you again."
J.J. smiled for the first time in what felt like forever. It nearly cracked open his bottom lip, but he didn't particularly care. Having Manon around would make everything less….scary. "You too, Manon. Where should we meet tomorrow?"
