With a sigh, Amber tore herself from her ear to make room for the girl who wanted to sit next to her partner, a guy who she’d been sitting next to. She slowly made her way over to William and sat in an empty seat beside him.
“So…” she began quietly, not looking at him. “Any ideas?”
William opened an eye, looking at Amber.
“Soft music,” he finally answered quietly. “Can you sing?”
Amber nodded and finally glanced over at him, blinking when she noticed his gaze on her as well. “Yes, I can sing. I can play piano, too. What about you? Anything besides violin?”
“Piano, flute, drums,” I provided for her. “Which instrument do you want to use? That way, we can narrow down and create a list of songs.”
Amber hummed in thought, wondering which would sound the nicest but be easiest to play. “We could do the piano or the violin… Or both, if we each did one. Those would both sound good with a softer song.”
William nodded in approval, closing his eyes again.
“There are lots of songs that would sound good with the violin and piano,” he mused, mostly to himself. “You can find a good song, and we’ll work to put in the piano and violin in it.”
"Sounds good. I've got a million and one songs to go through, then. Any chance I could convince you to help me look? Since we are partners for this and all…" Amber questioned, pulling her phone out to look for songs.
William ran a hand through his hair, trying to think of something.
“Ashes of Eden, Dark on Me, Pacify Her,” he paused. “Melanie… Evanescence songs, Lindsey Stirling.”
Amber nodded slowly as William named songs and bands. Hearing "Evanescence" and "Lindsey Stirling," she perked up.
"Evanescence? I know a really good song by them. My Immortal," she mused, typing it into her phone. "And maybe we could do some Lindsey-Stirling-type violin in it…?"
(Her name’s Stirling. XD But I understand that mistake because I’ve been doing it a lot nowadays.🤣)
William sat up straight immediately, furrowing his eyebrows.
“I have an idea,” he muttered. “But I can’t show it here.”
Amber furrowed her eyebrows and looked back up at him. What in the world was that?
"O…kay…" she murmured slowly. "How about when we get back to the dorm, then?"
William nodded, relaxing, furrowing his eyebrows. He laid his head in the desk, eyes dropping in boredom.
“Okay,” he muttered. “We’ll discuss it at the dorm.”
"Hm. Sounds good," Amber mused as she watched him confusedly. "Anything else you'd like to add?"
“Not at the moment, no,” he muttered, closing his eyes.
(Do we want to skip to when they get to the dorm?)
(Lol. I am fully aware. 😉)
Amber was sitting on her bed as she waited for William to get back so they could work on their project. Humming along softly, she listened to the song they had chosen to do and tried to find out how she could sing it in her vocal range.
When William got back after his basketball session, the first thing he did was take a shower. He hated being sweaty. He didn’t know why he liked sports so much when it always lead to sweat, but he did anyway.
With his hair still slightly damp, William grabbed his violin and with a sigh, knocked on the door of his dormmate.
A faint tapping sound brought Amber back to the real world, and she tugged an earbud out. When it came again, she sighed and set her things down to answer her door.
"You're finally back. Great. I was just working on vocals for the project," she greeted William. "I'm assuming you're ready, then?"
William nodded, keeping his gaze on her face rather than in her room.
“Living room?” He questioned, raising an eyebrow, arms crossed.
"Of course," Amber agreed, nodding as she stepped out of the room and closed her door behind herself. "What was it that you couldn't tell me in class?"
William turned around to walk into the living room, his violin resting on the couch.
“Show you,” he corrected. “Couldn’t in class. Do you know the piano cover for the song? Are you able to sing the notes?”
Amber nodded and sat down in one of the chairs. "I have to change the key slightly, but it shouldn't be too hard to transpose for the piano. I just need to get to one to work on it. What about you? Violin figured out?"
