"E-Eden. Eden Steel," the boy responded, stammering a little as he did his best to fight off his embarrassment and reddened face. He looked off to the side a little, turtling in his sweater in a failed attempt to hide his face. He hated it, but at least Brett seemed to be somewhat okay with it. He even seemed to find it…funny, which was really nice compared to the last few people he had been stuck talking to. Hell, the last person he had rescued from a burning building took one look at him after they hit the ground and squirmed away from him, telling him no scrawny kid was going to get the last laugh before storming off
Brett took a sip of his drink, a sort of relief washing over his face, the drink, although not water, took the headache away momentarily. "Ohhhh, you trynna avoid eye contact now?" Brett said, teasing the poor guy, as if the visible redness on his cheeks weren't enough already. "I don't blame ya, talking to humans is scary. One false move and BAM! People judge you! It's scary stuff dude" He said, the more extroverted social side of him making an appearance.
Eden whined and buried his face in his hands, his blush reaching his ears and turning them bright red. "I-I'm sorry, I just g-get…really nervous around new people, I'm sorry," he stammered, resisting the urge to start apologizing profusely. "And you're really, um…R-Really good looking so I didn't have time to prepare for being around you, sorry, I'm rambling," he said softly
Brett busted out laughing, making a few people's heads turn. "No, that's absolutely fine! I get it! It's no big deal! I was begining to think you didn't find me attractive like the rest, which honesty would have been a shock" he smiled, listening to what Eden had to say. "I'm only messing with ya though, you don't have to apologize, I know I can be a bit much at times, you're just gonna have to deal with me for a few more minutes, its alrighty~" he reassured the male. Brett liked how soft spoken the guy was, it was refreshing to meet someone like Eden.
(no i really like you @"No,Imurderforfun" (I kinda stalk u sometimes))
Eden just whined ever so softly into his hands, the tips of his ears bright red as he curled up ever so slightly in his seat. He was making a fool of himself and was well aware of it, but he had already dug himself so deep he just knew that he wasn't going to get out of this without sounding even more like an idiot. Though eventually, he lowered his hands, taking a deep breath and a sip of his coffee to calm down, refusing to look Brett in the eye. "S-Sorry about that, I just…get nervous around people and sound like an idiot. I'm not good with people outside of work…" he mumbled softly
"Hey, it's alright man, don't stress about it. It's not your fault a complete doofus came and sat with you, you were totally not excepting that" He took another gulp at his coffee. His eyes seemed to wander around then eventually they found Eden again. "So just to spice things up a bit with some small talk, where do you work?" He asked the other male, though, he wasn't sure if that was the right move. He seemed really on edge and Brett didn't want to make him even more nervous than he already was. Besides, the dude had been nice enough to play along with him on the whole situation with the other guy. He should probably leave, maybe the guy just wanted his space. Hence why he might have been sitting alone in the first place.
(lmaoo you stalk me? lil ol' me?? gosh I'm flattered and kinda spooked lol I just don't usually have people like me)
(oh hush you're perfectly likeable)
"Oh, I w-work in search and rescue. I just like to help people out is all, since that's about all I can really do," Eden answered shyly, taking another sip of his drink. He was slowly relaxing now, though hints of a blush still lingered on his ears and cheeks. He really hoped that Brett would eventually ignore his initial freakout. The guy seemed nice enough, and he shouldn't have to deal with some blushing, nervous kid who was just trying to handle being actually talked to
(lmaooo if his royal highness says so bows)
Brett stares at Eden with a bit of hope in his eyes after he said he worked to help people. "Search and rescue? What about someone who was abducted from their home and taken prisoner to live with someone else? Does that count?" He asked, knowing how weird the question sounded. He pauses. "Sorry, that was a really weird question, don't mind me and my strange personality" He chuckles. He chugs the rest of his coffee, knowing that it wouldn't take long for the migraine to start settling in. "I guess I should start heading out now" He said as he got up.
Eden had tilted his head in confusion at first at the odd question, but the implications clicked as Brett was getting up. "Hey, wait a minute," he said softly, looking up at Brett with a different expression on his face–one of concern. "Can we talk a little longer? We don't have to talk here if you don't want, my place is just a block or so away," he said, trying to hint that he understood that there was something wrong
Brett felt a ripple of dread radiate through him. He shouldn't have said anything. He turned to look at Eden. It was alright wasn't it? He wasn't going to take him back to the Colburn's…right? "Your place?" Brett stood quiet for a few seconds before he made up his mind. "Alright." He said firmly. "I'm cool with that, lead the way then" he said looking behind Eden through the window. He paled a bit when he saw the formally dressed men and women from the Colburn's house. He turned away and waited fot Eden to make a move.
Eden nodded, grabbing his partially eaten sandwich and half-finished coffee, giving Brett a reassuring smile before shifting his things to the crook of one arm. "Come on," he said with a small chuckle, leading the way to the door. He looked around for a moment, and after a second he realized that Brett was looking at some rather nicely-dressed people strangely. "Alright, not that way. C'mon," he muttered, gently grabbing Brett by the wrist and pushing him in front of him, leading him out the other exit that went through the sandwich shop
Brett followed behind Eden closely, as if he were afraid to get spotted. After they went through the sandwich shop and out into public he saw a few people who looked familiar. Then it hit him. That was the woman that worked at the Colburn's house on Wednesdays. The lady was eyeing Brett funny as she talked into her phone. Brett looks around frantically until he spots a guy who was previously at the cafe. And that guy was the one who drove the Colburn's son to and from school. His eyes were trained on Brett, it was cold and knowing. Brett could feel the panic creep up from behind him. "Can we walk a little faster?…" Brett asked, trying to keep his cool.
"Yeah, don't worry," Eden assured him, quickly finding the exit and pulling Brett along, slipping out the door without anything more than the faint whooshing of air as the door closed. "I saw them, they were looking at you weird, right? Those are the bad guys?" he asked, eyes flicking around the street warily as he led Brett into an alley, boots padding oddly quietly on the cracked cement, what with them being mostly metal and all. He turned a corner, deciding they could take the long way to his apartment if it meant keeping this guy safe
Brett felt kinda silly to be dumping his problems on others, he should have delt with this himself but he saw the opportunity and he took it. He just wanted to do normal things like normal human beings, they seemed to have the most fun. "Yeah…" Brett nodded slowly as Eden pulled him along. "They're from the Colburn family, I don't know if you've heard of them before but…they're this rich family that owns a lot of umm unique things" Brett said, unable to find it in himself to tell the truth about being part of the family's 'unique things'.
(lmaoo you stalk me? lil ol' me?? gosh I'm flattered and kinda spooked lol I just don't usually have people like me)
(well i saw ur profile pic and thought it was adorable and read your bio and thought it was adorable so here we are)
"Yeah, I've heard of them. Never liked them, or any of the other assholes in the city like them. I went to an award ceremony a while back since our team was nominated for an award, and they were helping give out the prizes. The assholes told me to go sit down because I was just a special unit, not actually part of the team," Eden muttered bitterly, turning another corner before leading Brett down a somewhat dark staircase. It wound around a bit, and he led them back up another staircase before popping up into what looked like an empty, closed bar
Brett hadn't known they went to stuff like that. Sure, he would see them come and go from the house but he never really cared about what they did. Apparently they were just as bad out here as they were at home. "I'm sorry…" He said softly in an almost apologetic tone as if apologizing on their behalf. Brett walked the long staircases until they got to a room which looked liked a bar. "Is this your place?" Brett asked, looking around. He was impressed, it looked really cozy.

(yeah, Kyle looks pretty adorable in that picture and thanks I guess lol I might change it though because I sound like a nervous mess which isn't far from the truth but still)
"Nah, I'm in an apartment upstairs. The bartender just lives on this floor, he likes dark places. Kinda funny since he's blind," Eden chuckled, leading Brett to the other end of the bar, the warm lighting just barely illuminating them, as the lights were turned down low. He led them to an elevator now, opening it and then gently pulling Brett inside. It was rather homey for an elevator, with the bottom chunk or so seemingly made of brick, or at least made to look like it
"Well it looks nice…but if its dark and he's blind what's the difference?" He asked, confused, but moved on with Eden. Brett hesitated to get into the small elevator, he had never seen such a small confined room like that before. "What's this? It's so small, this can't possibly be your apartment?" He asked, looking around.
"This is an elevator. Have you never been in an elevator before?" Eden asked with a small laugh. "I mean, my apartment's small anyways since I'm tight on cash, but it's not like it's awful or anything," he said, pressing the button for the top floor before finally letting go of Brett's wrist as he leaned back against the wall of the elevator
Brett flushed red, suddenly embarrassed. "N-no, I have, it's just….different." He tried to find an excuse but came out empty. "Oh, dont get me wrong, small is nice, just not this small…" he said, his sentence trailing off when he saw how Eden leaned against the wall of the small room. He did the same , he didn't know what Eden was waiting for but figured he'd wait as well. Then suddenly he felt like he was being pulled up, his stomach churned as he paled. "W-wait-" He said, terrified of what was happening.
Eden's eyes widened a little, and reflexively, he held Brett in a comforting grip. "Hey, hey, it's okay. We're just going up. See, my room's up at the top, on the fifth floor. We were in the basement, and then we got in here, and now it's pulling us up. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe. This one uses electromagnetic pulses to make the ride smoother, and there's safety cables installed so that in case anything happens, it'll catch us before we can fall. And if that didn't work, I could cushion us with an air pocket. We're safe, okay?" he said softly, knowing most people liked to have everything explained to them in emergencies
