@Ziggy-loves-Shiggy

I'm working on a small but powerful crime syndicate whose leader is obsessed with strategy; as a child, his favorite game to play was chess, and because of that, his little group is themed off of chess pieces. His group holds exactly 16 members at any given time; if one gets killed or compromised, he replaces them. Each person is given a role which corresponds to the chess pieces they represent.

E.G., there are 8 "pawns," 2 "knights," 2 "bishops," 2 "rooks" or "castles," 1 "queen," and 1 "king." Each of these roles fulfills a different purpose. He, of course, is the King of the board, and as long as he stays a step ahead of his enemies, they can never checkmate him. Even the pawns, however, are incredibly valuable to him, despite being the lowest of the ranks; not just anyone can join as a pawn.

Unlike the leaders of most crime syndicates, he is incredibly kind to those on his team, so long as they don't betray him or compromise the group.

I would like to do a roleplay that involves this group. There a few options to how we could go about this, but here are a few ideas:

For OxO

  • You play multiple characters that are of various roles within the syndicate. Are they all loyal to the King, or do some plan to overthrow him? Is one of the pawns determined to take things into their own hands and betray him? Will others protect him, or will he get caught in a Checkmate?

  • You are an enemy crime syndicate who battles with mine, but perhaps the leader of your syndicate and the King start to develop a alliance of sorts, maybe even a friendship, maybe even something more. Are the King's feelings real, or is this just another strategy in the never-ending game he plays?

  • Your character is an expert in a certain area of crime and have been involved in the underworld for some time. They have heard of the King and his Chess Board, but the group is mostly just a legend to them, a myth. That is until the King himself approaches them and asks them if they'd like to join his group. Do they accept? Do they trust the King, or are they leery? What happens if they develop a liking for him? Or… vice versa?

For Small Group

  • About 3 to 6 people. We could split the members of the syndicate and each play different ones, or use any of the above prompts and alter them slightly to fit all our characters.

Feel free to suggest any cool prompts for either.

For this RP…

  • I would like dynamic character interactions, please. You can play one character or multiple (please let me know at the beginning how many you intend to use, but you can always add more in later), but please do not overwhelm yourself with more than you can. I prefer your characters be well-written/presented. I am always down to dynamic relationships between characters, whether it be enemies, friends, lovers, or several of those throughout phases.
  • I will have several characters; the King will be my main, but I will also have others that will come and go throughout the RP. If you have multiple characters or we do a small group, I am probably willing to do ships with all your guys' characters if you want.
  • I love in RP drama, so if it's realistic to start it, please feel free! Just don't make your character OP or untouchable. Don't auto-hit, but don't just magically dodge everything either. Try to keep a realistic balance. If your character doesn't have great hand-to-hand skills but is a great shot, make him get his nose busted but let him snipe someone in the head. If your character is basically a ninja but knows nothing about technology, don't let him magically hack something when he couldn't, aight? But feel free to have jerk-wad characters who stir up crap. Just don't do it outside of RP or I'll shun your sorry hide. ^-^ We're spose to be friends here.
  • I love idea suggestions, so shoot for it. Worst I can do is say I'm not really feelin' it.
  • No supernatural characters or superpowers please.
  • There is a trigger-warning for violence, gore, suspense, death, blood, and similar things. If you have a problem with this, let me know and I will do everything in my power to keep it from making you uncomfy.
  • There will be no sex scenes, vulgar talk, or anything explicit, but there may be references to themes such as rape (though there will be NO scenes involving such) or innuendos.
  • Language must be PG-13 or less. No f-bomb, no g-d, no exception.
  • Respect me and I'll respect you. If we do a group, respect everyone— please and thanks.
  • Your responses don't have to be long, but they have to have something I can respond to.
  • If you're interested, you can post here or DM me. It's up to you.

I will explain more about the roles once someone shows interest, but here they are:

Pawns— 0/8
Bishops— 0/2
Knights— 0/2
Rooks— 0/2
Queen— 0/1
King— 1/1: Taken by Me

I will also be making at least 2 more characters to fill a couple roles, but I haven't decided which ones I want yet.

@Ziggy-loves-Shiggy

oH yeah I forgot I hadn't done that. My bad.

Okay so here they are—

The Pawns.
On a chess board, Pawns are the pieces lined up in front of the others. There are more Pawns than any other piece, and they operate on the frontline. They can only move forward one space at a time and can only attack pieces that are close to them. They are considered the most expendable chess piece. However, if they make it all the way to the other side of the board, they can become a Queen.

In the King's alliance, Pawns are the "foot-soldiers." He likes for them to be trained well in close-combat, moreso than any other role. Hand-to-hand, knives, and handguns are important weapons for the Pawns. Their specialties vary, but generally they are short-range fighters. They do not work as close to the King as the other roles and are expectedly the lowest ranking in the group. However, it's important to note that Pawns matter a lot to the King. This is a tight-knit group, small, with only 16 members, meaning that each one is worth a fortune to the King, and his group must be made up of people he believes he can trust. His Pawns might be the lowest rank, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't kill for any one of them.

  • Usually skilled close range fighters
  • Rarely work with King
  • Work on the streets more than other types
  • Lowest rank

The Rooks.
On a chess board, Rooks are the pieces that resemble a small castle and stand at the end of either side of the back row. They can move straight forward-back or side-to-side, but they can't move diagonally. Because of this, their attacks are a bit easier to notice than other pieces, and a surprise attack with a Rook is sometimes a bit difficult. The plus side is that the Rooks movements are incredibly useful, and they are incredibly valuable pieces. (One of my personal favorites.) Another cool thing to note is the "Castle" move a Rook can do, in which is more or less swaps places with the King to protect him in a time of danger.

In the King's alliance, Rooks are like the King's bodyguards or power-fighters. He likes to choose strong, straightforward personalities for his Rooks— though whether mentally or physically strong may vary according to the individual. He prefers his Rooks to be among the most trustworthy, as he likes to keep them close— but this isn't to say he won't send them out when need be. A Rook's main goal, though, is to protecc and attacc for the King.

  • Powerful fighters, though close or long range varies
  • May be equipped with weapons that deal massive damage
  • Generally straightforward/trustworthy/honest type personalities are preferred by the King for this role

The Knights.
On a chess board, the Knights are the little horse shaped pieces that travel in an L shape. They are the only piece that can travel this way, making them incredibly unique and useful for surprise attacks, since opponents sometimes forget about the Knight and can be caught off guard. Another interesting thing about the Knight is that, unlike other chess pieces, he can "jump" other pieces on the board. Others, even the Queen, cannot travel if there's a piece blocking their path.

In the King's alliance, the Knights are used for their stealth, surprise, and cunning. Their cleverness is an important trait, something that the King loves because it can catch his enemies off guard. Knights "move" in ways that the other ranks do not. After the Pawns, Knights are probably the rank that is sent out most often, whilst Rooks, Bishops, and the Queen are usually kept closer. Knights may have special skills and new tricks up their sleeves as well— surprises that throw the enemy for a loop.

  • Knights are most known for their cunning and cleverness, and they often find ways to surprise the enemies.
  • Aside from Pawns, they are sent out into the field the most often of the roles— however, they may still spend a lot of time around the King himself as well.
  • They are usually skilled in close or mid-range attacks, though some may have skills that aren't necessarily physical combat, such as hacking or diversion skills.
  • They are sort of the aces up the King's sleeve, I guess.

The Bishops.
On a chess board, the Bishops are the tall pointy pieces stationed on either side of the King and Queen. Bishops can travel in a diagonal line, but they can't travel straight forward-back or left-right; a Bishop can only travel on tiles of whatever color they started on, since they are limited to diagonal movement.

In the King's alliance, Bishops operate as his intellectuals and advisors. As far as skills go, the King doesn't mind what particular skill a Bishop has, so long as the Bishop is indeed very skilled. He likes Bishops who can be philosophical and can give him different opinions and viewpoints on things (often, he likes to have Bishops with opposing viewpoints so they they're almost like the little angel and little devil on his shoulders that he can consult when making tough decisions). The Bishops are also sort of the King's representatives, usually kept close but sometimes sent out as messengers.

  • The King's advisors, often intellectual, clever, and or/philosophical
  • Skilled in some way or another, though the King is not picky on what kind of skill so long as it impresses him
  • Less about physical combat, more about the plan and meaning behind it; still could probably kick butt in a fight, though
  • Sometimes responsible for the Pawns and communicating with them on behalf of the King

The Queen.
On a chess board, the Queen is undoubtedly the most powerful piece. She can move in any direction (save the Knight's weird L shape)— straight-back, left-right, diagonally— and is positioned right beside of the King. Once the Queen moves into play, the entire game gets way more tense.

In the King's alliance, the Queen is his most important ally. While the King loves all of his members deeply, the Queen must be the most powerful— and the most trusted— of his members. After all, the Queen will likely be by his side more often than any other. The Queen usually needs to be skilled in as many areas of combat as possible, or be highly intellectual— or both. The King consults the Queen more than any other and will only send them out on incredibly important occasions. If the Queen gets sent anywhere, then things must be getting serious, because the King usually keeps the Queen close. The Queen's goal is not only to protect the King but also to keep him in check and make sure he's not letting things go to his head, and also to see his goals through to help him achieve them. The Queen is above all other ranks and answers only to the King himself. It's important to note that being in the role of the Queen does not mean that one is in a relationship with the King, nor does it mean they technically even have to be female since they are not a literal Queen but simply filling the role of that chess piece.

  • Second in command
  • Incredibly powerful, often skilled both physically and mentally
  • Most trusted by the King
  • If they get sent somewhere, things are getting serious
  • Could probably kill the King if they really felt like it

The King.
On a chess board, the King is not the most powerful piece but he is the most important. He can only move one step in a time, albeit in any direction. What makes him the most important is that, if he is in danger, all other pieces must move in a way to get him out of danger; no move can be made if it puts the King in danger. If he is caught in checkmate, the game ends, regardless of if every other piece lives. He can kill any piece that is within one move of him, though.

In the King's alliance, the King is the head of the operation. He strategizes and runs the whole thing; without him, it would crumble. He is the mind that controls the body. He is the goal that must succeed. He is the blood that runs through the veins. He is the life of the alliance. As such, the other pieces work in his interest— but not without repayment. He is incredibly generous and kind to everyone in his group, and he goes to great lengths to show those he trusts his appreciation, even if they are all technically criminals. As far as hand-to-hand direct combat goes, the King is probably the most skilled; he has spent years refining his hand-to-hand fighting and is good with close-range melee weapons. That said, he may not be the physically strongest of the group, and several of his members might have the capacity to kill him from a distance if given the right opportunity. However, that would be incredibly difficult given the loyalty of the other members, and his long-term planning. Somehow, he seems to be an excellent judge of character, and he can see through you when you're lying.
Or can he?

  • Leader
  • Awesome at hand-to-hand
  • Like 90% brain, the ultimate strategizer
  • Without him, the group is nothing
  • Bad at long-range, RIP
  • Almost NEVER goes out into the field

Uhh also,,, sorry that was so long. :') I got kinda carried away ig.

Here's a quicky temp. The only character I've taken so far is the King.

@ShadeStar

No you're fine! I completely understand getting carried away with things like that. I'll probably take the Queen and a Knight for sure. (Though I can adjust)

(I'd love to take a pawn and bishop if you're open to another participant! Though, a heads up that my schedule is super bizzare and my responses may take a while. If you're looking for a quick progression, I'm probably not the best choice!)

Awesome; perfect.

Hey I'd be happy to have you! I don't mind inactivity, but just to keep from throwing off the pacing for ShadeStar, would you be interested in doing an OxO with me instead, also based off of this general prompt? My schedule is kinda bizarre too and I've been sick for a few days, so I haven't been online much either.

Name: Cicada Flare
Rank: Knight
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Personality: She's a fiery one, to say the least. And a sneaky one often picking pocketing anything and everything, if she's not setting fire to her seemingly endless supply of matches. Maybe a tad insane, but she's loyal to a fault despite some of her more troubling habits. Even with all that she's cunning and vicious and known from those who knew her before she joined his "chessboard" to be one to think better on her feet than standing still.
Brief Backstory: Grew up stealing on the streets. Don't know parents. Dat's bout it.
Appearance: Short dark red hair, warm brown eyes, a splattering of freckles on her cheeks, tan skin, and a very lithe and wiry figure. Typically found in loose and baggy clothing that is easy to move in.
**Skills/Strengths:
Cicada is an expert at thievery and stealth. She prefers hand-to-hand or knife combat over anything with a gun, though she does carry and know how to use the pistol she consistently carries with her.
Weaknesses: Focusing is… difficult to say the least at times and she's easily goaded into confrontation.

Name: Lotus Blossom (Lot as they prefer)
Rank: Queen
Age: 21
Gender: Afab, but identifies as Agender
Personality: They're highly intelligent and often prefer to plan ahead before doing anything or stay off the field entirely. That doesn't mean they aren't willing to go out and get things done when need be. They tend to hyperfocus at times often forgetting to eat or sleep before a big job is about to happen. They're not hesitant to share their opinion with others.
Brief Backstory: Grew up in a decently wealthy household and fell in love with programming as an early preteen. They eventually fell into the dark web and got forced into a hacking ring. After a few years, about when they turned 17, they finally got out of the ring but continued hacking for themselves and made quite a name.
Appearance: Medium-length light brown hair, green eyes, a little scar on their cheek, pale skin, and a thin, but toned figure. They like to wear a lot of denim and clothes that hide their figure as best as possible.
Skills/Strengths: Lot is an expert hacker and planner as those are their main skills. Lot is also decent at hand-to-hand and knife combat, but they prefer to go long range with a scoped weapon.
Weaknesses: They can't aim without a scope and if whatever plan they make starts to fall apart… Well so do they.

FINALLY! Sorry for taking so long. I said I would do this and then just burned out lol. Holler if either of these doesn't work out.
