Non humans have existed alongside us, for many years. It was only recently (within the past few centuries) they began to play active roles in our history. And the question rose, “are we really that different from them?

The answer, to most, is yes. We are. They say if you treat a person like a criminal, they act like one. Humans fear what they do not understand. And for the longest while, humans saw those non humans as lower species, often giving them less rights. Even today, in the modern world, more than 3/4ths of the non human population still lives in this situation. Compared to humans, non humans as a whole have much smaller population.

The two non human species are here:

Shio: Seen as the better of the two, Shio have been given more rights over the past 3 decades, some even serving in the government. Though that is more of a minority in their population, if anything. Shio are unique for the fact they can ‘see the unseen’. In this aspect, they are useful for crime investigations due to the fact they can see what humans cannot. They also have heightened senses and better night vision, as well as a healing factor (though the healing takes time to occur.) Shio are also capable of creating small illusions, which they can use as a distraction, or as a form of entertainment, pretty much anything.

Mono: Seen as the worse of the two, Mono are seen as more evil and demonic. While it is possible to kill a Mono, a human has a very very hard time doing it, and even a Shio struggles with the act. Only another Mono against its own kind has a chance. Mono can travel through solid matter. While not fully understood either, Mono can summon a strange creature ‘made from shadow’, that only the Shio can see, though this monster can interact with all things in the world, including humans. For a Mono, getting a job is much harder. Even the Shio tend to stay away from Mono. Mono typically have more violent jobs.

Much is yet to be understood of either species. Both species look like humans.

In the city of Italens, notable for a high population of Shio and some Mono (though humans, as usual have the highest population) poverty is high and government is corrupt. Although crime rates aren’t extremely high, they’re rising, as some begin to turn to more ‘risky’ jobs in order to get what they need for their families. Jobs could be minor crime, or major jobs.
Nobody knows when or if things will change. How they will change.
But when you have three species that don’t think highly of one another, that gets quite hard…

Hi. So I’m gonna make this as quick as possible and state the preferences (and rules) that I have. I’d first like to state that I’d prefer this to be a straight romance, and that I’d like to be the man. I’d also prefer to be the Mono, while whoever joins this is the Shio. If you have any questions regarding either of the species, feel free to ask me.
The romance in this may be slow burn, but that depends on how we play our characters.
I’d like to state that my character will be involved in some sort of government operation (meaning that he will be on the side of the ‘law’, for however long). If you, maybe, want to make things a bit more interesting, perhaps you could make your character a criminal? Doesn’t have to be a murderer or anything, can just be a thief, or maybe something the government views as bad (like protester? Maybe they strive for equal rights? Maybe they want to send a message?) Of course, that’s just your choice, you make your own character.

Here’s the rules.

  1. Please make an attempt to be a mature RPer.
  2. I reserve the right to deny or accept you as needed.
  3. Please try to use proper grammar.
  4. Some forms of violence is probably to be expected. Blood as well. Just remember, there’s a time and place for everything.
  5. Swearing is allowed.
  6. No one liners. They’re very tricky (for me) to respond to.
  7. This list is subject to change, so keep that in mind.
  8. I will mention this RP (connecting to rule 4) is going to be maybe a bit darker and more violent than my other ones, so also keep that in mind.
  9. Let me know if you’ll be inactive.
  10. If things maybe get a bit frisky - I ask we do take it into the PMs and back out when done, or skip over it.

Here’s the template.

@Knick

Name: Louka Arseniy Reeves
Aliases: Operative; Operative 004
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Nationality: Canadian mother, notably from Quebec. Slavic father, from Russia. Neither parents were Mono, which is typical.

Employment: Classified towards the general public. Hard to describe, though works as an Operative for a secret task force, trained specifically to handle criminals of both human, Mono, and Shio origins.
Criminal record: If he’s done anything, it’s been wiped out of the system.
Appearance: It’s relatively unknown if Louka even knows the definition of ‘casual.’ While of course he does know it, it’s just a rare sight to see Louka in any sort of casual wear.
Louka wears, of course, body armour. While it does provide protection, anyone knows you still need to get into cover if you’re under attack. His clothing can be best described in terms of colours as being a dark grey/green colour. Designed to protect him against the cooler climate of the city. As a rule, Louka wears a mask which goes up to the bridge of his nose. He’s taught that no one but himself knows of his identity. Louka, despite his questions, agrees to this rule. On the job, Louka wears a helmet and occasionally visor.
He wears boots and gloves as well.
Louka has dark brown eyes, and fair skin. His hair is light brown, short in length. He has a tattoo in black ink on the left wrist, written as ‘004’. He’s around 6’3” in height, lightly athletic build but not extremely, either.
Personality: Louka, on the surface, tends to be more of a follower of orders, but he’s quick to question things and let his emotions get the best of him. Most people never look into his more ‘human’ side (though being a Mono, I guess it would be his Mono side, human is more of a figure of speech.). Louka is actually not that brave. He prefers to avoid fighting if possible, which is odd; given his job. While he can be bold and demanding if the job demands it or if he’s ticked off enough, Louka is generally a lot more ‘shy.’ Despite his nature, Louka can also be extremely protective, and goes to nearly any lengths in order to ensure his loved ones’ safety.

Backstory: Whenever he speaks of childhood, Louka describes it as though it were wiped from mind. He describes not remembering too much of it aside from his parents voices and their ‘figures’, to which he also speaks of them as ‘providing what he needed.’ Although, Louka also says while he cared deeply for his parents, he felt as if it was more one-sided and his parents feared him for reasons he never understood until he was around 15 years of age, of which he learned of his Mono status.
Undergoing specific training to make sure he didn’t go ‘rogue’, Louka honed his skills until he ended up going on actual cases with teams, tracking down different criminals and taking care of them. It was due to this that Louka ended up in the city, due to rising crime rates. Nowadays the normal police typically handle the human threats…while Louka himself shows up for the non-humans.
Skills: Able to handle a gun and shoot safely. Good at running long distances (not so good with speed, just with conserving stamina). Louka knows the basics of first-aid, though he’s very rusty with it. Can climb quite good. Also capable of speaking multiple languages (English, of course, as well as Russian and a bit of French.) good with hand to hand combat.
Fears: Most of these fears aren’t absolutely horrifying to him, but there are a few. Louka fears electricity (as in, being shocked himself. He’s fine with things like lights and other electric devices but the actual concept of getting shocked is a must-avoid to him). Fears dying, also linking into the fact he prefers to avoid injuries. Fears the possibility of coming into one on one combat with another Mono.
Other: Louka prefers to avoid, at all costs, using any of his Mono abilities.

(Feel free to submit whenever you’re ready, I’m just putting my character here before I forget.)

@PrettyLittlePyro

Name: Adrielle Danvers
Aliases: Lorelai
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Nationality: The United States

Employment: An entertainer, with her abilities, she makes a pretty decent amount of money
Criminal record: N/A (she's never been caught)
Appearance: Adrielle looks like the most innocent thing in the world. She has long white blonde hair and pale skin. She has delicate, doll-like features, and is absolutely beautiful. She is short, about 5'4'', and curvy. She is petite, and seems like she could be blown away at the first breath of wind. Her eyes are a wide, innocent shape, and she is very good at looking confused, naive, or anything like that. She is very good at acting. Her eyes are a clear, icy blue, with what looks like fractures in them, giving her eyes the appearance of shattered glass. They are the only thing she can't hide, or disguise, full of malice and hatred and anger, and loneliness. She gives off the aura of a psycho, someone to stay away from, someone to watch and be careful of. She has a tattoo on her wrist, of the words "Fuck you too" in beautiful script.
Personality: Adrielle is calm, cool, and shy on the outside. She is bitter, too, and has a dirty sense of humor. She loves to make people shut up by silently looking at them with her wide eyes, and it freaks people out. She has no friends, and would betray someone at the blinking of an eye, with no regrets. She's smart, though, and clever, and very manipulative and cunning.
Backstory: She has done some dark stuff, but she han't gotten caught. But that's a story for another time. She's never met a Mono, but she's heard stories.
Skills: She's really good at controlling her ability. She knows exactly how to get what she wants, to the maximum effect. She's a good pickpocket, and a great actress, and loves playing with fire.
Fears: Monos, being found out, her past, people, being weak
Other: She clenches her fists when she's mad, annoyed, or just bored, so that her nails dig into her palm. Twirling her hair between her fingers and widening her eyes in an unconscious attempt to look innocent when she is trying to intimidate someone, or when she's annoyed and trying not to show it. Will fiddle with anything she can get her hands on, really, and twirl it between her fingers.

Italens, while not completely rural, was surrounded by miles of fields and trees from each direction. The city was urban, but it wasn’t a very big city, in fact many buildings on the edge of town were considered outdated and old, as judged by their style. Louka had never thought too much of this, however. He’d been only taught to memorize his surroundings, and that he did.

Sitting in a dark truck, which was pulled on the side of the road, they awaited orders. A careful and cunning eye could note the other same design trucks, all nearby, some driving around, others parked on the side of the road or in a parking lot. One could call this overkill, and sometimes, Louka agreed. But he was not to object to the orders of the government.
His boot tapped in an even pace on the floor of the truck. Eyes on the floor, there wasn’t really much to look at anyways. After a certain period of time the trucks would indeed depart. But Louka knew, as the months before, he’d be here for a while, alongside the other men and women.
Most of the others were human. He only knew of two other Mono on the force, and one Shio, who even then he never really saw.

So for now, it was just the waiting game he’d play. Louka exhaled, glancing up at the wall opposite from him.

@PrettyLittlePyro

The crowd cheered as Adrielle finished her last piece of illusions, the masterful imagery floating into the air and exploding like fireworks. She bowed, smiling her practiced smile, of mystery and innocence that always made people look twice. She knew what she looked like, a short, pretty young woman with a doll's face, who didn't look like much until you saw her power.

And her eyes, which currently sparkled with impatience and annoyance.

She didn't like performing. Sure, with her talent, powerful even among Shios, everyone wanted her to work for them, to investigate problems, to examine things, but she didn't want to work for anyone. And that was why she took up performing, where no one could try to recruit her for who knows what.

She strode off the stage, performing robes flying behind her as she vanished behind the curtain. After she vanished from the sights of the crowd, her smile melted into a scowl. She shimmiedout of the robes, to reveal her t-shirt and leggings. She stepped out of it, letting the colorful cloth fall to the floor, pooling around her feet like water, and walked to her private dressing room, where she went to the balconey and stood outside, letting the wind blow through her golden hair.

@Knick

A radio from the front of the truck had Louka glance up. While not able to catch any of it, he had a hunch that it was go-time as the truck began to move, driving down a road. Not every single truck followed, however. At the very most, only two trailed distantly behind. The three black trucks moved throughout the streets, driving past different types of buildings.

A sudden stop on a fairly empty street had Louka tense up. The first truck, his truck, stopped in front of an alleyway. First, the others moved out, then the driver turned to him. “Two humans and a Shio. See to it that they’re dealt with.” The driver seemed to avoid eye contact.
Dealt with could have many different meanings, but Louka knew what they were hinting at. Alive or dead. Louka didn’t know what they’d done but he knew not to say anything against it. The doors opened, and it was time for Louka to begin his pursuit.

Making a right turn into the alleyway, it didn’t take time for him to see who everyone was going after. But it also seemed that Louka was the only one to notice the Shio take a turn, to which he paused, glancing at the two humans and back at the Shio, who was getting further away and deep into the maze like alleyways of Italens. Finally, he decided.

Louka pursued the runaway Shio further into the alleyway.

@PrettyLittlePyro

Adrielle scowled at the view she saw. There were too many buildings, impairing her sight. She flicked her hand, and a scene blossomed to life in front of her, of trees and the moon. That was where she wanted to be now, not some hellhole in the middle of a city. She vanished the illusion and was about to go back inside when she spotted something.

Three figures were being hunted by another. The three in front didn't seem to notice that they were being followed, but from her high view, Adrielle could see it all. She frowned. The first three figures had to be humans… no, wait, one of them was a Shio. And the one stalking them… her blood ran cold. He was unlike anything she had ever seen of sensed before. Could it be… no, Monos would never be here, the government would have taken care of them.

Still…

She darted down the stairs. While people were dumb, and she hated them, she couldn't let them die… one of them was of her own race! She followed the four figures, ignoring the people who tried to stop her, and soon vanished from the view of the performing building.

@Knick

Louka continued his sprint through the alleyway. The Shio ahead of him was all alone, with the other two humans taking a different route. The Shio took a sudden turn, however, catching Louka by surprise. Not enough to stun him, however, as he stopped, realizing the Shio had run himself into a dead end.

With Louka on the slow approach, rifle aimed down slightly, the Shio seemed to look around the brick walls for escape, but found none. When he looked back at him, Louka paused.

“Please, just surrender yourself. I don’t wish to kill you.” Louka made his voice honest. He didn’t really want to harm anyone in general, at least, not permanently. He’d only do it if he had to.

The Shio took out a handgun, his aim not so steady, judging by the visible shaking in his hands. Louka stopped, choosing to not walk forwards anymore. Instead, the two were at a standoff in the alleyway.

@PrettyLittlePyro

Adrielle stopped. She had wrapped illusions around herself, to hide her appearance, but when she had caught up, she had caught the two about to shoot each other.

The Shio's eyes widened as he looked at her. So clearly, he could see her, although his human companions couldn't. He looked pale and startled and afraid. Adrielle cursed herself. What was she supposed to do? She wasn't too great at fighting, so how was she supposed to help them?

She could wrap them in an illusion, so they could run, but then the Mono would be suspicious. So she'd have to distract the Mono, then, for that was clearly who it was.

She stepped from the shadows, illusions fading. She knew that she didn't look like much, just a pretty girl with a doll's face and shattered-glass eyes.

"Are you sure that's allowed?" She asked the Mono coldly, her tone polite, and as warm as an iceberg. "Because I'm pretty sure attacking random citizens isn't really allowed."

@Knick

Louka glanced at the new person who’d entered the alleyway, a few times, actually. He never held his eyes on her though, instead focused at the Shio currently pointing a gun at him. His rifle was not directly aimed at the Shio, though it would be if he needed to fire.

“Please leave,” Louka said, directed at the other person, eyes on the male Shio. “This is not business citizens should be involved in. This is police business,” although the police part was a lie in itself. While he could be considered law enforcement, Louka knew that his organization rarely ever worked with the local PDs aside from a few words exchanged. And besides, Louka was sure that woman would be able to tell a lie right away, just given on his attire.

@PrettyLittlePyro

"Oh, please," Adrielle said, rolling her eyes. "You're not the police. First of all, the police doesn't attack citizens randomly, unless they've done something terrible, which I am sure that these guys have not. Second, you don't dress like one. And third, the police would never hire a Mono to work with them," she spat.

"So let them go," she said, with more force. "You have no right to hunt them down like a stupid wolf."

@Knick

“You have not context in this situation of what any of these people have done,” His voice was not loud, but did carry a certain air of aggression to it. Maybe somewhat passive. “And besides, how do you know that I’m a Mono or not?”

Although he added on afterwards, his voice was less aggressive, almost as if he was thinking out loud. “And I am with the police..just a different branch of it..” On his radio, it crackled to life as one of his teammates spoke into it. ”Got the humans. Where’s the Shio?” Louka held silent, still staring at the male Shio he’d tracked down here.

@PrettyLittlePyro

Adrielle laughed harshly. "You're not human, or Shio. What else is there?" She didn't say how his very being seemed to radiate with power and menace. She had never seen a Mono before, but she was certain that he was one.

When the voice came through the radio, she stiffened. This wasn't right. Why would he be hunting people?

She put her hands on her hips. "Tell me this, at least. What has he done, to deserve such a thing?" She asked, gesturing to the Shio.

@Knick

Louka stayed silent, taking in her words. Upon hearing her question, it seemed that he faltered, his rifle pointing almost directly at the ground for a split second before going back to target.

“I wouldn’t know, I’m just following orders. If you want to know, you’ll need to speak to the ones that gave the warrant in the first place.”

@PrettyLittlePyro

"I would, but I have no way to know who is giving you the orders." Adrielle rolled her eyes, staring at him with her icy eyes, showing not a bit of warmth.

She frowned. "Why on earth do you blindly follow orders, anyway? That seems so boring, listening to something someone else tells you to do. Have you ever been free before?" She knew this was probably dangerous ground, but she was reckless, and she wanted to see if anything fazed the guy.

@Knick

Louka once again glanced over to her, his eyes meeting hers. He didn’t hold the gaze for too long though, either not enjoying staring at someone else, or just that..cold gaze. Or maybe he wanted to keep an eye on the other Shio. Maybe a mixture.

“You’d follow them too if that was the only thing you knew from a young age.” Giving a pause, Louka stiffened as a shot, some distance away rang out. He wasn’t quite sure if that was one of his teammates or something else. “I was probably free once. I don’t exactly remember it, but I don’t exactly have a desire for it, either.” His voice was neutral in tone.

@PrettyLittlePyro

"Pity," Adrielle said coldy, trying not to jump at the sound of the unshot in the distance. "Pity that you're so fucked up that you don't know right from wrong." Her innocent face twisted into a dark scowl. "I guess that not everyone cares about freedom as much as I do."

She was buying time, that was it. All she could do was let the Shio live for a bit longer. Faced with a psychopath like this, there wasn't much she could do against him.

Unconsciously, she clenched her hands into fists, like she usually did when angry, and felt a sharp pain. She looked down, to notice that, in her frustration, she had clenched her fists so hard that her nails had bit into the palms of her hands, and crimson blood was slowly flowing from the cuts. She scowled harder and closed her fists to hide it.
