"Wrong side, you dork." Quinn laughed lightly, taking his hand and moving it to the other side of his chest. She kept up a little smirk, staying close. "I promise I'll tell you if I get a boyfriend. I don't want to let you die, on my account. That seems rather contradictory, to my paranoia."

"And I'm fine. For as much as I use it, I'm surprised you don't know what sarcasm is." She hummed lightly, flicking his nose a little when she pulled back. With his 'nothing', she narrowed her eyes in disbelief. Which she was right to not believe him— as her face was hit with a stream of cool water. Her face was completely bewildered, as she tried to figure out what he had just done. "Taegan!" Quinn laughed, her thoughts finally clicking together as she wiped the water off her face. "Not funny."

@PrettyLittlePyro

"But you laughed!" Taegan said, looking like a proud child showing his mother a new trick. "So yes, it was funny. I thought it was funny. Especially your expression!" He grinned at her, very pleased with himself. If she hadn't been so distracted today, then she would have noticed, and he never would have gotten away with it. But he had, and he felt a flush of pride go through him.

He bolted off the bench. Now that he had gotten her in the face, it was best to run before she pummeled him.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Quinn watched him run off, laughing softly as he did. "Oh come on, Taegan. No fair!" She shouted, pushing up off the the bench to chase after him. Though she wasn't bugged by it— not too badly at least. Today was a pretty good day, after-all.

Though that didn't last very long. The day came to a fast end, the two of them having gone to seven-eleven after his meeting, and parted way late that evening. Anything after that, had gone down-hill for Quinn.
The following day was beyond frustrating, and she hadn't even gotten the chance to meet up with Taegan; she wasn't sure if she'd even get to see him that evening, either. Which made her stress levels rise quite a bit. She already had major bills she had to pay, mostly the medical bills she had insisted (more like pressured Taegan with threats) to pay for Taegan. She was his guardian angle after-all… and she didn't want to see him so stressed over any of it. So she took it all upon herself.
But not getting to see Taegan, that worried her. There was a lot of bad things that could happen if she wasn't around.

@PrettyLittlePyro

If Taegan hadn't been in such a bad mood, when he returned from the employees' meeting, he probably wouldn't have gotten himself into this mess. He had been walking back to his apartment, feeling like he wanted to punch something, when he noticed that there were two burly, angry-looking thugs, each holding the arm of an old lady. She looked frightened, but didn't shout out.

So he decided to idiotically follow the three, to a dark alleyway where no one went. And he watched as the two men tried to hit the old woman. A poor, defenseless old woman.

His anger flamed up, and he scowled. He stepped into view, and the two men stopped for a moment. "What do you think you're doing?" He asked cheerfully, sticking his hands in his pockets and looking for all the world like a playful young man… although his silver eyes sparkled dangerously, seeming far too old and deadly for his young age.

One of the men sneered and pushed the old woman into a pile of trash bags, stalking towards Taegan. "We're playing a little game," the man said with a smile, baring yellow teeth at him. "Would you like to join?"

Taegan stayed where he was. "I'm sorry, but I'll have to pass. I'm not really in the mood to dance."

"You!" The man lept at him, and Taegan easily dodged to the side, hands still in his pockets, and stuck out his foot. The man, with his forward momentum, tripped, and fell to the ground.

Quinn was silent as she walked, a small plastic bag hanging from her wrist. She was trying to make it to Taegan's house, worried how he was doing. She had tried texting him, but didn't get a response in return.
That was never a good sign. Something was up— whether he was doing something she wouldn't like, or he was just being plain stupid, she wasn't sure. It was a rare occurrence that he was actually doing something nice, or productive when he ignored her. This gave major red flags.

She assumed he had had a rough day, and wanted to take his mind off of it. So she had rented a movie, and got micro-wave popcorn for at her house. They could have a movie night, watching his favorite movie, and maybe he wouldn't be so upset. Here's hoping at least. She honestly didn't want to see him so frustrated. Even if she herself had to take the bulk of his emotions, she hated to see him so pissed off.
So that's why she did what she did. Trying to keep him happy, when the rest of the world didn't want him to be. A tough job, for sure, but she could handle it.

But as Quinn walked along, she caught sight of something ahead. Though at first she didn't seem to notice it. Just a couple of guys, congregating around someone. "Probably just a couple of idiots." She told herself, silently approaching the group.

@PrettyLittlePyro

The other man, seeing their partner on the ground, let the old woman go and walked toward Taegan menacingly, pulling out knives and even a small gun. There was the sound of footsteps behind him, and he turned to see eight other guys blocking the entrance to the alleyway.

He was trapped, surrounded. It was one against ten, and he was weaponless. The chances weren't looking good for him.

This was his favorite kind of fight.

As they advanced toward him, Taegan kept his hands in his pockets. He even started whistling, which infuriated the men. They charged at him, waving their blades. He sidestepped their attacks with ease, thinking that this would be simple.

Until a gun rang out, and he felt a splitting pain in his side.

He had forgotten about the gun. And the bullets were made of iron. He cursed, pain shooting through him, and another man slashed at him with his knife… which also turned out to be made of iron.

I guess I'll have to take this more seriously, then. Taegan turned around suddenly, lashing out with his foot to kick one man in the gut. At the same time, he grabbed another man's fist and pulled it toward him, spinning him around and then letting go, so that he slammed into the wall.

Taegan panted. He was already bleeding heavily from his side and arm, and his human body was weakening rapidly.

Time to play his other card, then.

He clenched his fist against the brick wall, closing his eyes as enormous black wings erupted from his back. His nails and teeth elongated into fangs and claws, and his features became leaner, meaner, and sharper, making him look like a wolf with human skin. His eyes glowed, and a silver-gray tattoo appeared on the left side of his face.

The men backed away. "Monster!" One of them said, gazing at Taegan in panic as he turned back to them.

Taegan bared his teeth into a wicked grin, and leapt at them.

Soon, there were ten bodies on the ground, all of them still. Taegan stood there, panting, and bleeding heavily, looking half-mad with rage and bloodlust, very different from how he usually did.

He heard footsteps behind him, and turned… and froze.

"Quinn?"

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Slowly Quinn started to recognize a couple of the faces— one sticking out more than the rest. As soon as she saw his white hair, and his face, she felt completely sick.
"That's my idiot!" She called out weakly, quickly approaching the scene. But by the time she had approached, a dozen men were on the ground. Her stomach turned, as she scanned over the faces trying to find Taegan. "Don't be dead… don't be dead. Please don't be dead…" She panicked mentally, flicking her gaze up to the one remaining figure.

Her heart stopped in her chest, as she stared at the figure. Her face grew incredibly pale as he turned to look at her, her balance shifting a bit. She stumbled a little, using the wall to support herself.
"Oh my god…" She let out weakly, unable to say much else. Quinn was muttering profanities under her breath, watching blood seep through his side. "What on earth did you do!?" She cried out, pushing off the wall to storm up to him. She didn't even mention the fact that he had wings— and a tattoo on the side of his face. Currently she was focused on the unconscious men (she hoped), caused by Taegan. Her best friend.

"You idiot! What were you thinking!?" Quinn yelled, storming up to him. With the initial shock fading away, her anger and frustration was coming through. Grabbing onto his arm, she started pulling him along back the way she had came from. "I'm sitting here, worried my ass off, and you're off street fighting. And you didn't bother to tell me." She growled a bit, tightening her jaw as she yanked him along.

@PrettyLittlePyro

(“That’s my idiot” XD)

“I can explain-“ Taegan felt scared, more afraid than he had in a long time. Quinn looked angry, more furious and worried than he had ever seen before, even when he had jumped through that window on the fifth story and broken eight bones in his body and fractured four, and gotten a concussion.

She started to drag him out of the alley, and he pressed his claws into his palm, willing himself to return to normal. He was bleeding, though, and the blood soaked his shirt. He tried to pull away from her, but she was too strong.

“I was saving someone!” He said angrily. “I didn’t start a fight on purpose!”

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

(Lol)

"I don't care." Quinn snapped, going at a pretty quick pace. He was bleeding a lot, and needed to get him to her apartment fast. "You're off getting yourself hurt, knowing damn well that I'd be furious with you."

She was trying to ignore the stinging tears, keeping silent as they approached her apartment. No matter what he was saying, she ignored it. It didn't take long for them to get to her apartment at her quick pace. As soon as she was at the door, she dropped the plastic bag in her hand to the floor. Though Quinn was still pulling Taegan behind her, leading him to her bathroom in her bedroom.

"Take your shirt off. I need to see how bad it is." She muttered, pushing him down to sit on the edge of the tub. No matter how awkward this would be, she would have to get over it to take care of him.

@PrettyLittlePyro

“Are you even listening to me?” Taegan asked in frustration, but she didn’t answer. “I guess not.”

She pulled him quickly into her apartment and forced him to sit at the edge of the tub, and told him to take his shirt off. Normally, he would have made some sort of suggestive comment, but she wasn’t in the mood for any of his jokes. It would probably just piss her off even more than she already was.

So he silently complied.

His wounds were worse than he had thought. He had the bullet wound in his side, and the slashes from the knives on his arms, abdomen, and one on his cheek. Normally, sounds wouldn’t be bleeding so much with him, but the blades and bullet had been made of iron, and that made it worse.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Quinn felt awful as soon as she saw him. Her shoulders dropped as she turned to grab medical supplies.

After pulling bandages, and all that lovely stuff out, she grabbed a bottle of pills and pulled the lid off. Grabbing a small paper cup, she filled it with water before turning. "You're gonna be in god-awful pain," She muttered, handing him the medicine and water. "While you get that down, I'm throwing your shirt in the wash." She told him softly, taking it from him.

When she had started the washing machine, she came back to him with a look of frustration on her face. "Did you get it down?" Quinn asked in a mumble, pulling a wash cloth out from under the sink. Pausing, she pulled a second one out before turning.

"Because I need to get you cleaned up."

@PrettyLittlePyro

Taegan felt pretty bad that she was doing this for him. She seemed angry, and worried, and he didn't want her to have another reason to blow off at him. So he complied, although the medicine tasted god-awful, and it made him gag a bit as it went down.

"I'm used to the pain," he muttered as she went out of the room.

"Yeah!" He called back in response. "I shoved it down. Somehow." He didn't say it in his usual joking tone, knowing that it was something that she wouldn't appreciate, given her current mood.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"I know that. But this had gotta be worse." Quinn muttered as she came back, dampening a wash-cloth. Her jaw was clenched tightly as she knelt down next to him, gently wiping up the blood. Though it wasn't doing much.

After a couple minutes, she pushed back up and started rifling through the medical kit. Pulling out some thread, and a needle, she glanced back at him. "What were you thinking?" She asked weakly, before looking up and starting to rifle through the medicine cabinet. "I know you had good intentions, but this is beyond what you should be dealing with. You're… you're you, Taegan. Not some super-hero."

Tears were stinging at her eyes, as she tried to swallow down her emotions. Grabbing rubbing alcohol, tweezers, and the needle and thread, she turned back to him. "How squimish are you?"

@PrettyLittlePyro

“Of course I’m not a superhero,” Taegan said. He didn’t flinch when he saw the needle, although his blood ran slightly cold. “But you know me. I hate injustice. Besides, it’s not like these are life threatening injuries.” He tried for a smile, but she wasn’t even looking at him.

He sighed. “Not very much. You know that.” He wasn’t happy about the needles - the ones he had used before were usually made of iron, although he knew this one wasn’t - but he could live with it. It wasn’t like it was the end of the world if he was stabbed repeatedly with a tiny knife of doom.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

(Tiny knife of doom… I'm dying. XD)

Quinn sighed softly, listening to his argument. She knew most of that, and she knew first-hand it was true. But it didn't make her like it any better. Dropping down to the floor, she knelt down in front of him, glancing up. "I know… I know…" She mumbled threading the needle in silence. The wound on his side was her main priority right now.

"And I was just double checking. My brain isn't really functioning the same as usual, I'm really stressed about you right now." She mumbled, admitting that mindlessly. Quinn was honestly to the point she couldn't keep up appearances anymore, worried she was going to slip up.

@PrettyLittlePyro

(I mean… that's what it is… XD)

"Why are you stressed?" Taegan asked. He knew it was kind of a stupid question, and probably not the best to ask under these circumstances, but he was trying to keep his mind off what she was about to do. "It's not like I'm dying here."

His skin itched where the iron had struck, and already he could feel it polluting his veins. Well, he was gonna have a fun night tonight.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

(Mm, that's true.)

Quinn kept quiet for a minute, letting out a soft sigh as she started to fix him up. "I- I just am, alright?" She replied, seeming to grow defensive at his question. It was already awkwardly tense for her, sitting on her knees in front of her shirtless best-friend. Trying to converse at the same time wasn't helping the situation much.

"I'm tired, I'm stressed, and I just wish you didn't do this to me." She muttered, piercing his skin with the needle. It was pointless to try not to hurt him, knowing it was inevitable. "And… and then you hide things from me. Since when have you had wings?"

@PrettyLittlePyro

Taegan bit back a wince as he felt the needle pierce his skin. It wasn’t the pain that bothered him, but the repeated sensation of the thread being pulled through flesh. It wasn’t pleasant, to say the least.

At her question, he froze, stiffening. Should he tell the truth or not? It was pointless to try and pretend like she was dreaming - the wounds were enough of a say in that. He decided to go for the simplest answer. “I don’t really know. Maybe always?” He shrugged, and then immediately regretted it.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"Seriously, Taegan?" Quinn replied, her tone of voice sounding as if she were in disbelief. She tried to ignore the brief frustration she had, knowing she should definitely not stab him harder. No matter how much she wanted, she was trying not to hurt him any more.

"So you've had these wings since- 'maybe always'?" Quinn repeated his answer, making it sound a lot more dumb than it had before. "And why didn't you ever consider telling me about your 'maybe always' wings that you have?" She snapped a little, finishing off the stitch in his side where the bullet had hit.

@PrettyLittlePyro

Taegan flinched at every word she said, more than the pain of the needle stabbing into his skin. He felt guilty, yes, but shouldn't she understand why he didn't tell her? It should have been pretty obvious: she was human. He was not.

"Well…" he paused, trying to figure out how to put those thoughts into words. She was already angry enough as it was; whatever he said would probably just make it worse. So would keeping his mouth shut, though. "Because you're just a human?" He winced at how weak his voice sounded. "And I didn't want you to be in danger simply because you knew my true nature. It was to protect you." Which sounded kinda stupid, now that he thought about it.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Quinn only scoffed, rolling her eyes a bit. He had to be joking. For years she had been the one protecting him, and now he was so worried about her? Yeah, she didn't believe that for a second. Even if it was the truth.

"Because I'm human." Quinn repeated in a mocking tone, not meaning to let that slip out. Oh god what had she just done? Clearly she was trying to hide the panic on her face, hoping Taegan wouldn't take it the way she meant it. But in all honesty, she doubted he'd figure out what she meant. What were the chances, really?

@PrettyLittlePyro

Taegan winced at the raw rage on her face. Yeah… maybe that hadn't been the best thing to say. But she really didn't understand, did she? The world of the supernatural was very dangerous, especially the politics of the High Fae, the race he was a part of, and the other humanoid races.

"What, are you something else?" And then he glanced up at her face and blinked at the panic on her face. No, she couldn't be. She smelled human, and acted like one, too. She couldn't be something else… right? Only the most powerful of beings could disguise their auras.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Apparently the chances were pretty high. Quinn felt her heart beat pick up, trying to brush off the subject by cleaning the blood off his face. Had it always been so hot in here, or was it just her?

"I- um… no, of course not." Quinn muttered, cringing at how stupid she sounded. She was being such a hypocrite right now, trying to keep this from him. He would never let her live this down. "Why would you even think that?" She added, knowing it was only making her lie more obvious.

@PrettyLittlePyro

"…" Taegan stared at her. Hadn't they promised, only yesterday, not to lie to each other? The two of them had been friends for so long, he knew when she was lying. And right now… the news came as a shock to him. It felt a little bit like he had been slapped. He blinked in shock at her.

"Uh huh… are you sure about that?" The pain was only a slight prickle in the back of his mind, now. "Because I don't think you are."

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Quinn looked up at him, guilt written all over her face. She took a step back, feeling the weight on her shoulders only increase. She had completely blown it. This was the end of the line and she knew it.

"I- um… no, I'm not…" She whispered weakly, dropping her head in her hands. She sighed weakly, rubbing her temple. Slowly she reached down the front of her shirt and pulled out a rather long chain around her neck. Hesitantly she slid off the jacket over her shoulders, letting it drop to the floor before pulling off the chain. It was only a few seconds before a large set of cream colored wings unfolded from her back, taking up whatever room was left in the bathroom. Her gaze was pinned to the floor, unwavering from it's spot.
