Name: Desmond Clark Kynaston
Nicknames: D.C.; Dez; Clark
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Backstory: He grew up living a relatively secluded life in the Appalachian area of North America, but the war still took its toll on his family. Though he was still too young to be drafted for the war at the time, his dad was not— and he was killed during battle. Desmond’s mother was disabled, wheelchair-confined, and he, being the oldest of three siblings, stepped up to take care of his family. As the economy slowly started to crumble, it became harder and harder for a young man to support a family of four— and when everything finally snapped, he wasn’t able to protect them. The grid went down. Riots started in the cities. It wasn’t long before bands of malicious raiders were scouring the countryside, breaking into houses, killing the inhabitants, and pillaging their goods. Desmond wouldn’t abandon his mother, but fleeing into the wilderness wasn’t much of an option with a wheelchair. It didn’t matter, though. Raiders found them. Broke in. Shot Desmond’s mother and one of his brothers. He barely managed to escape with only himself and his youngest sibling— his ten-year-old brother, Marc. Though Desmond was experienced with the forest, far too many murderous groups roamed about for him to stay there, so he sought out his uncle Alec— who had been labelled crazy by most of society before the war, since Alec was a conspiracy theorist and inventor who lived in a bunker— and stayed with him for a time. Marc was kidnapped by an unidentified group several months later whilst the three were attempting to hunt, and both Alec and Desmond were injured during the ordeal. Marc is presumed dead, and if he’s alive he’s likely been tortured and a slave, so Desmond hopes he’s dead for the sake of the poor boy. Though both Uncle Alec and Desmond have recovered nicely and still live in the bunker, Desmond hasn’t forgiven himself for any of the things that have happened of late.
Currently, Desmond lives in Uncle Alec’s booby-trapped bunker. Alec is not there 90% of the time, and Desmond doesn’t bother asking where he has gone at this point. He hasn’t seen his uncle in a few days, so Alec might be dead, for all Desmond knows. Desmond often takes expeditions from the bunker quite often to search for food or peaceful groups that he can trade with. This can be how he encounters your character, whoever they are, unless they are already acquainted.
Personality: Either an INFJ or ISFJ; I think the former— Before everything went to heck, Desmond was kind, and he still is— though now his soft heart has been hardened by what he’s been through. Not to mention, being kind seems irrelevant in this society, since the gentlest of hearts are always the ones destroyed so brutally. Because of this, he can come across as a bit cold and detached— something he does intentionally for his own self-preservation. Truth be told, he’s not cold or detached at all, and the plight of others breaks his heart. He spends a lot of time alone, thinking, and he doesn’t like being asked questions that pry into his life. He fears to grow close to others only for fear of losing them— which is why he has refused to allow himself to grow too close to his enigmatic uncle. But if he does grow close to someone, he becomes incredibly protective of them. He’s very affectionate when he does get close to people and will do anything to keep them safe. Their life > his life.
Skills: He is good with simple technology and gadgets due to living with his uncle. The woods are his domain, and he knows them well. He has a good aim and is skilled with a variety of weapons, including guns, knives, and even a bowstaff. He is also good at close range fighting styles such as Filipino boxing— also taught to him by his uncle. He can also climb trees.
Weaknesses: He blames himself for almost everything and he low-key hates himself. He is afraid of losing people, and if he has people to lose, he can get anxiety about bad things happening to them. He also has no desire to kill his enemies, and, though he will if necessary, it bothers him deeply. As far as physical strength goes, he is only average, so he relies more on his boxing skills. He can’t swim.
Appearance: Desmond is about 5’11, with a lean, somewhat wiry build. He has fair skin, dimples, and a blotchy birthmark on the back of his left shoulder. His hair is coffee-colored. When he lets it grow out, it’s thick and curly, but he usually keeps it cut short. He doesn’t smile often, but when he does, he has a very bright smile and straight, white teeth. His eyes are blue-gray, with flecks of green around the pupil. He has a sharp jawline and a somewhat prominent (though not large) nose, with lips of average-thin fullness.
Outfit: Desmond usually wears a pair of protective glasses (if you’d dare to call them— goggles) on his head, as well as a dark bandanna around his neck and loose dark-green, gray, or brown colored clothes that help him seem somewhat camouflaged in forest-settings. Though, he’s not always in the woods, so it doesn’t always matter. He has thick brown combat boots that are slightly worn, and often a belt with several weapons or tools. He always carries at least two guns and a plethora of knives.
Other: I don’t know where our characters are currently or if they have met yet, but here’s my boy. ^-^ Do I need to tweak anything?
