Bryn winced when Zack said he'd die violently after a certain period of time, pressing closer instinctively. Earth wasn't exactly nice and it wasn't a place he always liked, but… it was home. And after a while, he'd never be able to go home ever again. He sighed and focused on the happier part of the conversation. "We'd be adopting no matter where we lived, so I don't really mind. And… I've always kind of wanted to adopt. Maybe it's 'cause I' was in the system for a while myself, but there's always been something nice about the idea."
Zack patted his head gently upon feeling his mood shift, leaning down and gently kissing his head. “We can visit as often as you want. I just think you should know that before it was too late. I think we should adopt down here. Kids are a little better down here than up here. They’re wired differently and created a bit different to be an orphan. We’ll have to go through a lot of steps, though, so if you want to do it, now, we should at least get the paperwork and legality done.”
Bryn leaned into the patting with a soft sigh, accepting the comfort for what it was. He nuzzled his jaw as he considered the offer of adoption- the time that would be added to the already lengthy process by demon bureaucracy and Zack's decision that they should get a child from down here. "Probably, it just feels like a big decision. We've only been dating for a year and we're not even married, it feels… weird to adopt before we get a couple more milestones done."
He tilted his head slightly. “Hey, even if we don’t adopt right away we’ll be able to once we feel comfortable. And we don’t get married down here. Humans get married under the name of God, right? So you can only assume that it wouldn’t… quite… work like that here. But a few Demons do it for their Human mates. And I’ll do it for you if you’d like.”
"Some humans get married under the name of god," Bryn corrected, smiling despite his playful annoyance. Zack agreeing to marry him sent a happy surge of adrenaline down his spine and a flock of butterflies into his stomach. "I'd get married because I've been secretly planning our wedding since I met you and… it's kind of the ultimate sign of human commitment. It'd just mean the world to me if we did."
“Mm so you don’t want to marry under the name of your holy ruler?” He questioned, tilting his head a little but still listening to the Human speak. A slight grin tugged at Zack’s lips at Bryn’s confession.
“Honestly, you’re just the cutest thing ever. If it means that much to you then I will marry you.” It’d be more stress, but he wanted it to be perfect for Bryn.
Bryn blushed, hiding his face in Zack's neck until his face stopped feeling like it was on fire. "I want to do things right, your way and my way," he murmured shyly. "'Cause.. you're one of the best things that ever happened to me, and I… um… I wanna make sure I do right by you the same way you've done right by me."
“Don’t get all emotional, Bryn. We’ll work it out when we get there.” He tapped him gently and looked up. “Look, here comes our food.” Surely enough their waiter was bobbing over. They set down their food and Zack pulled away to enjoy his order of what looked like lava on a plate.
Bryn smiled softly and pulled away too, tucking into his food with a tentative kind of enthusiasm. He'd learned early on that demons had their food with entirely too much spice and that they had no concept of what was reasonable to human tastebuds. He couldn't really blame them, but he could quietly mourn the loss of food that didn't make him cry, sweat, or fear for his life. Luckily, Zack knew him and the soup was delicious.
Fortunately for Bryn this soup was as exciting as potato soup would get, with just a slight dash of the lightest spicy spice they had. No matter how spicy it threatened to be, it was still delicious with cut up chunks of potato in it. Zack hummed faintly as he ate, grinning a little over his chicken.
Bryn scarfed down his soup eagerly, though he at least remembered to use his manners. He smiled over at Zack every so often, eying his food with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. On one hand, it was bright and definitely flavorful, but on the other, it would probably give him a spontaneous heart attack. He decided to risk in and reached across the table to take a scoop with his spoon. "Can I?"
Zack glanced up suspiciously as his mate leaned over. “Nah, it’s too spicy for you,” Zack decided as he licked up the rest of his saucy chicken goodness, licking his lips happily with a grin on his face.
“Alright if you’re done we can order some dessert and head on out.” It was a nice date, sort of short but that’s how Zack liked it. He still enjoyed himself, and he had a feeling Bryn had more in store. Well, Zack did, at least. He didn’t put on thigh-high socks for nothing.
Bryn wrinkled his nose and shoved Zack's shoulder playfully. "This is a nice restaurant, you animal. At least use a spoon if you want the last of the sauce." He'd finished his soup, hence the potential stealing of Zack's diner, so he perked right up at the mention of dessert. "Hell yeah! Dessert, and then I have a nice surprise waiting for you at home." He smirked, leaning forward to kiss Zack softly.
“It’s good sauce,” He cooed innocently, batting his eyelashes as Bryn continued to speak, a slight grin crossing his sharp features at the promise of a surprise. He kissed back, passing over some of the taste and spice of the sauce. It was mostly mellowed down from Zack’s spittle so it was okay enough. “I can’t wait for the surprise, babe.” He smirked a little.
Bryn rolled his eyes as Zack kissed him back, pulling away after a few seconds. He really wasn't lying about the sauce being good, even if it did make his lips go tingly. "Good, it took me forever to figure out where to get the stuff I needed. Oh yeah! Um, what's your favorite flower? Just randomly and for no reason whatsoever?"
“I like the poppy flower,” Zack answered with a slight raise of his eyebrows as he took a look at the menu and scrutinized it. “Why do you ask, my dear? Surely there’s a reason. If it were for no reason you would’ve asked me much sooner,” He cooed, smirking a little more. He decided on getting a cake because cakes are and always will be delicious.
"I'm just making sure I asked your friends to get me the right flowers," Bryn said nonchalantly, looking at a couple of the pictures on the menu and then asking Zack to get him a chocolate sundae. He got back to the conversation at hand once the waiter was gone. "Oh! That reminds me, I have one last errand to run before I head home, but I want you to go on ahead. It'll only take a couple minutes, I need to drop by some thank you presents."
“Bruh-I’m not gonna leave you alone on our anniversary night,” Zack looked somewhat annoyed at this point. “I think you’re just making a bit of a big deal out of it.” He tilted his head a little to watch Bryn’s expression. “I just want a nice night with you. Enjoy ourselves and maybe eat some ice cream and popcorn afterwards. That’s not hard to ask for, is it?”
Bryn hummed consideringly for a few seconds before he nodded, leaning over to peck him on the cheek. "I'll drop them off tomorrow, babe," he said agreeably. "Tonight it'll just be us and whatever movie you finally decide you like."
“Alright. And I’ll come with you, because they’re my friends too.” He wrapped his arm around Bryn and took his lips in a quick kiss. “That’d be nice.” He wasn’t sure they’d have enough energy to watch a movie. Maybe.
"I know, honey bunny." Bryn kissed him back, smiling over at his mate with unhidden affection. He leaned into the arm around him like it was the most natural thing in the world. They'd probably be able to get through half the movie when they were done. Maybe a fourth. "What do you think we should watch?"
Zack pawed a couple fingers into the lip of Bryn's pants and tilted his head up as he thought about his answer.
“I dunno, Bryn, I’m gonna be honest. I guess we’ll figure it out when we get there.” After a few more minutes of idle chatter, their dessert arrived and was eaten by the pair. There was no bill to pay so they stood and walked out.
Bryn smiled, one arm looped through Zack's and their hips bumping softly every few steps. "You gonna fly me back home, or should we walk? Because, fair warning, I'm fucking stuffed and I think I might blow chunks if it gets too bumpy."
“I’m gonna fly, it’s too long of a walk,” Zack cooed back, turning his back on his mate. “Just get on, I won’t go very fast.” And with that they were off in the air at a very slow pace. Even with the slow pace they were back home pretty quick, with their arms wrapped around each other.
Bryn didn't take his hands off Zack for a second, pulling him inside by his arm and then pinning him up against the first wall he could find once they were inside. He tilted his head up for a kiss, obviously expecting Zack to lean down for him.
